    Where to buy Sintra

I'm new to the forum and I'm begining work on a set of Armor, but I am having trouble finding a place to buy sintra. If anyone here is a resident of Seattle and knows a good location to obtain it please let me know, or if anyone has any suggestions in general as to how to obtain sheets of it. I live downtown so if there are any places around belltown that anyone knows of that would be of even greater help. Thanks to anyone that replies and I look forward to begin work on my armor .

i live in southern california however, i've had hit and miss luck finding it at hardware stores such as home depot and lowes. also, if there are any plastic manufacturers around you... you'd have luck there. i've also found it on ebay an yahoo shopping.

Go to the phone book and look up, "Plastics." Sintra is a foam by the way.

Does anyone know any websites that sells sintra and will ship internationally? I have asked about sintra from local stores etc. but apparently they don't sell it here.

Thank you, but I rather use sintra as I have already some parts of my armor and those are made of sintra.

One comment: In my experience where I live, Sintra is absolutely impossible to find in hardware stores or the like. The way I finally found it was by calling around to various Sign shops like Fast Signs and similar. I finally found one who was willing to sell me a 4'x8' of Sintra for $50. (Not the best price I've seen on here but it was the best I could do without resorting to the internet, which would rather suck.

Yeah, well the closest sign shops is about 200 kilometers away, so I think I need to resort to Internet. Thanks for the hint anyway. I'll check if any sign shop can help with this.

    score some free sintra
If you have a Home depot or Lowes near you the display signs over the shelves are sintra sign material most are about one and a half feet wide and about three and a half feet long.Ask if they are having a "reset" soon and if they can hold old signs for you.We have a reset every few weeks or so at my store.Oh best bet is to ask for a manager.

Re: Where to buy Sintra Plastic

It's a bit of a drive from Seattle, but I got mine from a plastic dealer in Portland, OR. I can't remember the name of the place, but I'll look it up if you're interested. I don't remember what I paid (it was eons ago). It came in a 4X8 sheet that the guy cut in half so I could get it in my car.

I have also seen it called foamed PVC.

It is essentially what it really is anyway.

If you are using it to build armor plates, anything between 3-5mm to taste seems to be what most folks use. I have 4mm for my chest plates.

Centax is another name for product like Sintra (they are just name brands). 3mm works best to work with to build armor.

Re: Where to buy Sintra Plastic

I may be able to purchase/ship Centax is anyone is in need. I found a supplier about 30 min from the house and they will cut it any size I need (would make it easier to ship). If any one is interested send me a PM and I'll look into it on my next day off.

Someone was complaining that their search for sintra came up with nothing so search expanded pvc foam instead.

...Hi Im planning on building my first fett armor and i have a few questions. what thickness do you use? What is the best way to heat the Sintra? i've watched people on youtube that use the oven, some use a heat gun others say jus to use hot water. Also for painting the armor are there certain kinds of paints i should use? Do you belong to a costume club in vegas cuz i also live in vegas and i would like to meet people that are into costume building...you can contact me at my email CTYVE333@Yahoo.com or thru Facebook (Steve Sabbai) thxu

    3mm is best.
I use a heat gun to bend Sintra/Centax but you can also use hot water or an oven (oven is a little dangerous without ventalation)
I would use paints meant for plastics if you are using rattlecans.

Bringing up an old post guys but it is still important.

Just picked up my 3mm Sintra PVC foam board from Fast Signs. They let me just buy the material from them. It was about $65 for 4x8 feet sheet.

Sometimes if you hit it right you can end up getting the scrap pieces (random sizes) from them that have some in-perfections in it. They are going to get sanded and painted anyways. I know I got a 4x3 sheet the last time for $5. Just have to hit it right. I think the large sheets they need to make some money back on! Hope this helps.

0.030 hips will give you armor like an old plastic halloween costume... WAY too thin! That's about 3/4 of a millimeter thick, where people here are talking about 3 - 4 mm.

For my Pre Vizsla armor I used 0.080 and for my clones I use 0.125. To help put it in easier terms to visualize: 0.125 is 1/8 thick. 0.030 will be about 1/32" thick.
