    Weathering with a sharpie/ silver paint ?

Hey guys, I'm currently working on some guns but they need to be weathered. I've never done weathering before, just due to the fact I've usually made realistic looking guns (Stuff that wouldn't have beat on or used in the field.)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. As I said in the title I have silver paint and makers for the small parts.

I've actually used a silver Sharpie on small parts for weathering and it worked well. I would recommend testing before applying to your work piece to see if there's any reaction with the paint.

For general weathering of guns, you could try "ragging." Use some silver (or gunmetal, etc.) and dip a corner of a rag into it. You could even use an old sock. Wipe most of the silver off onto a clean rag till there's just a tiny bit left. Then lightly wipe onto the gun, catching the high points with a very subtle amount of the metallic color.
Another option is graphite powder. Gives a nice metallic sheen to a base coat of black.

the best method ive seen and used is dry brushing. apply paint to an old brush use a paper towel to brush off most of the paint then apply to the piece the paint will stick to the high points of the piece

I was gonna recommend dry brushing as well, but someone beat me to it. Also, I used a silver sharpie exclusively when weathering my rotj jetpack. Both options work well.

Thanks a lot guys! You were all a huge help. I'll have pics of the guns posted as soon as were done filming with them.

I've used silver sharpie in the past to weather the edges on prop guns as well. Drybrushing, ragging and sharpie all together make for a killer look.
