Taun taun taxidermy complete!/ Kit now ready pics page 2

Here's what I've been working on lately. Been thinking of making this into a total walk around costume, but I think I'll start by making it a wall mount taxidermy style from the neck up. About 3 days into the sculpt, taking some liberties on the design. Let me know what you think and if you think I'm getting too far off. Started with a block of styro foam and added clay over it.

For some reason seeing it mounted next to a deer head would be hilarious!

I was wondering wot to do with it!! mounted on a plaque would be hilarious!!

alternatively - I have already suggested that a head in the bed to any potential recasters ala Mafia style would be another fine use

Absolutely stunning. As with everything we do here, we need :

    1. Time
    2. Patience
    3. Skill

I can make the first one, I already have the second, the third ..... DangerRuss took it all !!!

You should look into Van ****'s Taxidermy to get supplies like eyes and whiskers, and what not. I'd love to see the final mount of this!

What are you going to use for fur? Are you going to go hair by hair like they do in in sfx studios?

That will depend on what I cast it out of, if silicone then I can punch the hairs in the skin, if fiberglass I'll just have to do a good glue job.

Well it's nearly ready to mold, just a little clean up left to do. Then I just got to get the funds together for the mold. About $400 or so for the silicone, fiberglass, and casting supplies. Plus I've been busy with work and other projects. But don't worry, I'll get to it as soon as I can. I'd like to get an "interested" list going.
The neck I was going to do as a one off. Attach the head to the wall mount and build a neck around the armature from the head to the mount. Build it out of foam, and glue fur to it. Still working that out. Thanks all again for following this project. Keep you posted.

No. not loaded at all. All I can hope for is to sell at least one or two to make up for my costs. It's worked out so far.

I think I'm motivated enough to get the mold supplies. I'll order them this week and make it my weekend project. Post pics of the mold process when I take them. I have a huge free lance project that could consume my time in March and April, so I'd like to get this one out of the way. Fun fun fun. I'm excited as well about seeing this all furred up. Anyone know where to get some god looking fur for cheap let me know.

Here are some more pics. I think I'm close now. I changed some things. Added more eye detail, more meat in the back of the head, and over all I changed the skin texture to a more detailed, leathered look. Whatcha think?

Wow, I just came across this thread. Amazing work there!!!

I have to add that you must have a very patient wife. If my stuff starts taking up 1/2 of the dining table my wife gets angry, and you don't want to see her angry.

Beautiful job. So you're going to solid cast them? Wonder what would need to be done to be able to add animatronics to one.

Not solid cast, probably fiberglass, with shell-shock as the print coat. Like my Briareos helmet. The horns will be smoth cast-roto, like my iron man lid.
There is the possiblity to animate this, even as a fiberglass cast. You can cut the bottom jaw off and hide the pivot with the fur. You could attached a silicone lip to the fg with spandex to make it stretch. You could also make eye lids out of laytex for an eye blink, and make the eyes move left to right.
I had even thought of casting a silicone skin for this backed by a FG skull. That way I could punch the fur into it for a more refined finish detail. Then you could go crazy with animation to include nostril flares, ear wiggles, etc..
For now though I'll start with just a static piece. If I turn it into a costume I may do some animation.

MOLD IN PROCESS print coat applied.
To make your silicone go further, try adding recycled, chopped up cured silicone, to a batch of silicone. Any access drip offs or trimmings from the mold can be used as filler the subsequent layers of silicone.

This is fantastic. As a suggestion, I think a project like this requires the best when it comes to putting the hair on it - whether you go for punched hair or glued, this needs the good stuff.

I used to work for a mascot building company, which is how I got introduced to this stuff. I have also used your technique for making a head sculpt... but all my head sculpts were big funny cartoony animal heads. LOL

Wow , I love star wars and I love that sculpt.
What kind of clay you using, I have used chavant medium grade to do sculpts but I really cant get it to do anything, having to heat it to workable is a real pain aswell.

Thanks for the link! I'll definately be going all out for the finish on this. I think the fur is going to really make this piece. Oh and I like your quote, we came up with this one back at the shop;" Every success begins with failure."

Some clays can be hard to work at room temp. I usully sculpt in Le Beau Touche' HM by Chavant. You can soften it in the microwave, and work the surface with 3m citrus based cleaner to soften it, and alcohol to dry it back out.
For this clay I used stuff I had left over, recylced Klean Klay that I use mostly for clay walls in molding. It's cheap, $1 pound or so, and it's very soft at room temp. Which can be good or bad. To help protect the sculpt before mold I hit it with crytal clear from krylon, then spray it with universal mold release.
The side horns were made out of chavant(brown) and NSP soft(green). The sculpt is mismatched only to cut down on costs by using what I had.

Wow! That is awesome! Just curious, did you build a cut seam along the back of the head? I was just wondering the demold style you went with for a piece that size. Looks great!
