Silicone Caulk Mold Tutorial

i have a question, when making the mother mold, can you use saran wrap as the barrier?

I don't think that would create any problems. I just did it because I wanted a smoother surface for the expanding foam. You really don't need to put anything between a silicone mold and the mothermold because it should release. I emphasize the word SHOULD because we are talking about MacGyver-ish moldmaking here.

Dude, thank you so much for this, I was told of this thread by Fractal, and had him post a link to this tut on my new bucket thread, I am going to use this for my Revan, Nihilus and my Mando Buckets (buckets will be 2 part molds, but so what)!!!

Do you think you can pour the silicone caulk stuff in a box mould? Or is it too thick

You'd have to thin is WAY down with something. The only thing I can think of would be a solvent of some kind, but I have never tried that and really don't think it would work. SORRY!

The silicone will work in a box mold to some extent, but its hard to get the bubbles out.

You would paint on a few layers first, to get a print coat, then after its 1/8th inch thick, just squirt it onto the item and then tap/shake it so the caulk settles.

I used it to make cap ends for my rocket pack in a pinch, it worked ok.

This is great stuff. I have a ton of this silicone in my garage after overestimating the size of my bathroom!!!!!:facepalm Never thought of using it for this. Cheers for the tips.

SO after the mold is made, do you just dump the casting stuff into it ?? Then how do you get the stuff out of the mold???

I've got to try this. I know that people have been using off the shelf silicon, but I haven't found any good tutorials. Thanks for the post. I'll take photos of my own experience.

this is really great. I was wondering if I could use this to make molds out of leather shoes? Would I have a problem getting the silicone off the leather?
