i did, if you want a plain dull look that would be fine. But if your doing gloss then, no not at all.
I bought the rubys jango helmet and the paint job is...well, it blows. If I hit the metallic portions w/ rub and buff what would happen?
Thanx,
Mike
It would probably disintegrate on you.Your better off repainting it.
It would look better, but would it dry is the question. Ive put rubnbuff on my helmet and not had it dry for weeks.
Maybe one day i will be convinced to do the whole armor in Rub & Buff. But for now i have just the knee's and shoe gauntlet. I wish that it would dry permanent.

Arturo and I went out hunting today, and found a RNB alternative. The same company makes another product called Brush N Leaf:
http://www.dickblick.com/zz271/04/pr...m=0&ig_id=2748
The silver leaf looks identical to the wax, and since some of you guys are worried about the RNB rubbing off, I don't think this will. I can't tell you exactly how it is, because we didn't buy any.
I was just wondering where I might be able to find Rub N' Buff. meaning, which stores you can find it in(like Wal-Mart)
and which section of the store to find it in(such as by the Paint).
forgive me if this has been posted before, but we haven't found it yet and would like to find it soon.
thanks.

I got mine in Michael's Arts & Crafts store in the isle with all the glues & paints.
I don't think we have a Michaels in our area.
and I don't know where the closest one to our area is.
is there anywhere else you can get it?
thanks.

Hobby Lobby perhaps? If you've got a good art supply store anywhere near you, they should have it as well. Otherwise, just look for it online.
OK, now what parts did all of you put it on. I know i heard it was used on the rubies helmet, but did you also use it on the armor?
Could you find R&B at Ace Hardware? If not then we'll just have to look for some hobby shops.

I used it on all my armor pieces and Rubies helmet...and it worked great!
can you put a clear over that stuff?
Techinically, no...it's a wax. But like I said, they have a RNB paint called bruxh n leaf. That will probably take a clear coat.
Wax on sintra sounds messy I know we have talked drying time before but on sintra will this stuff every really dry as to not rub off with touch? And what about heat will that cause any adverse reactions to the wax?
I must say, I picked up a bottle of the brush n leaf today, and it's really great!
It's a lot like testor's paint, but it has a very, VERY shiny silver look to it. Not quite chrome, but brighter than the RNB. The RNB has a much whiter look to it.
My plans are to cover the parts with the BNL, and then use the RNB, that way if anything happens to rub off slightly, it's got a coat of silver paint underneath!
I've never had a problem clearcoating over RNB...
Have any pics of what it looks like clear coated??
Thanks

It looks silver. ^_^ No change.
Where then can you get Brush N Leaf?
same place as RNB?
thanks.

Kylash, You mentioned that the Rub N' Buff can be cleared, but what type of clear? Lacquer, Enamel, Polyurethane?
Uhm, I think it was enamel. It was just cheapy clear spray paint form WalMart...the $.99 stuff.
I got mine at an art supply store, so I'd imagine that dickblick.com would have it. I've also seen it at Hobby Lobby, but not yet at Michael's.
I clear coated my r and b also. Works fine...
Mike
This may seem obvious, but I have read some threads from people who can't find Rub N Buff. Just go to Michaels.com and search for Rub N Buff. They list all the colors. I am going to try using Silver Leaf, Pewter, and Black for a more detailed blend of weathering. It seems that the armor pieces tend to be "cleaner" towards the center and slowly weather towards the outer edge. The Pewter may be a nice step in the progression.
Also, I have seen a few suggestions for the base color, but would you guys mind posting again what you are using for you armor? I am working on top of ABS and am looking for a good shine on the clean areas that fades to a dull shade.
One more thing...has anyone experimented with buffing in swirl mark to further the look of the metal? Perhaps with steel wool or something? Thanks.
I think a few people here have done the swirl marks on their armor. I'm not positive but I think you can only add swirl marks to fiberglass. I may be wrong though.
Can anyone confirm??

All you Jango vets out there and no one has anything to say (except Bobbywan1) to help out a new guy eh? Okay.
Since none of you will help me, I'll just go ahead and help you. I've seen a lot of people simply spray the silver designs on their boots a solid silver. The actual boots have a much more weathered look to the silver (shows some black). What to do, what to do? Break out the Rub N Buff again silly. I used the silver leaf in the pattern on my shoes. I first drew the outline with a pencil (I used the Walmart shoes) and then "painted" the outline with a small amount of Rub n Buff on the end of an eyeglass flathead screwdriver. Once the outline was done, I carefully smoothed out the Rub n Buff to fill the whole area with my finger. Once it is solid, use a paper towel and some liquid dishwashing soap to take off some of the Silver. The dishwashing soap gradually removed it, giving it a good look. You can also use the soap to remove any areas that you may have accidentally got the Silver on.
Very interesting!
Thanks for the tip.
Mike
No Problem. Also, just so you know, it dried completely for me.
I'm going insane from painting my armor. The sinatra has to much of an Orange peel to make it look nice. I think im going to Rub&Buff the Metalizor then gloss it with Delta top coat.
Does anybody have a name for a good DR.
UGH
Eric
my whole armor is now r&b except for the helmet and guants.
what did you do for the gaunlets? and did you top coat the R&B cause i hear it doesnt dry and rubs off?
Well actually if you buff hard enough you wont have problems with cominf off. When it does comes off it only comes if you press hard on it. It works great for me. and now that i wore my armor this past weekend for the first time with r&b i must say that stuff is awesome. actully the more you buff it the chrome it looks![]()
Do you put it on the sintra and start rubbin & buffin? I was planning on painting mine then clear coating it. would that be a mistake? I have never worked with sintra until now. Thanks!
I painted my sintra with testors metal then R&B. You can coat it but you might not need to? Delta varnish when thinned and sprayed doesn't haze the R&B. I didn't varnish all of it just the back as a test! I look like real metal when buffed right.
You need to have a nice primed base for the Testors to look as good.My thigh pieces were just Testors buffed up they look great.
Eric
Orange peel texture.. I know what your saying.. I think.. I might be wrong.. but with my Sintra I felt the same way with the texture of it.. even after a few layers of paint... still could see it. Not that big of a deal.. but I didn't want that there. So I figured I could get rid of it (which I did) by clear coating it.. a few layers.. and then getting a low grain textured sand paper.. and going over it.. till the shine was gone.. this getting rid of the cratters / orange peel texture to it.. giving the smooth look was achived. Then I went over it with paint and all was looking good.
I hope I am in the same ball park with that explanation...lol :-)
Good Idea. I should have done that.
I got alot of it out in the middle of all the parts it helps to leave some on the egdes it gives it a worn look. R&B fills inthe little pits.

I started weathering my armor last night. I used Rust-oleum chrome silver spray paint over a wet-sanded grey primer, then I wet sanded that with 600 grit and used rub&buff on it. Finally, I used a dry and wet brush and some black acrylic to dirty up the edges of the armor. I put a clearcoat of polyurethane on it this morning and when I get home I'll snap some pics. Im thinking of wet sanding the clear too to take some of the glossyness away.
If you don't want it to shiney.I would use A matte finish clearcoat.Still has the layer of clearcoat to protect. But is not shiney.Trust me on this,You can also use the matte finish on top of A regular clearcoat.Still it takes away all the shineyness.I don't think shineyness is A word. But it works.
Is rub and buff like a paint that you use as silver/chrome or is it like something you rub on to make things look shiny. This is probably in another thread but I can't find it.
It is like car wax with color to it. Rub it on and buff it off, hence the name. The silver makes Jango armor look shiney while the black can be used for weathering. But just like all waxes, it will eventually wear off.
