Rorschach Mask Possible?

Agent007

New Hunter
I've been trying to think of a way to make a Rorschach mask possible, and I can't. Any ideas?

P.S sorry if this is in the wrong place

Are you talking about a static mask or one like in the graphic novel & movie where the black shapes move and change shapes? It would be easy enough to create a static mask but I think that a functional mask would be very difficult if not impossible.

Yeah I'm pretty sure making a moving one would be impossible. but there are several different ways to make a static one

Method 1) Markers
get a white t-shirt
make a stencil resembling an ink blot
use this to draw an inkblot onto the shirt
pull the shirt over your head and align your face with the ink blot
pull the shirt tight and use the excess to tie a knot in the back
(this is the cheapest method)

Method 2) Iron-On T-Shirt

get a plain white t-shirt
get some iron on transfers from walmart (just a couple bucks)
iron on a pic of one of his inkblots (one below) onto it.
Then put the shirt over your head and align your face with the iron-on transfer.
pull the rest of the shirt back like with the marker one and tie a knot.

Method 3) Iron-On Spandex

Buy a spandex mask like this HugeDomains.com - WrestlingWearGalore.com is for sale (Wrestling Wear Galore)
then use the iron on transfer method onto the spandex mask

Method 4) Pre-made Mask
buy a pre-made mask like these HugeDomains.com - WrestlingWearGalore.com is for sale (Wrestling Wear Galore)

(this is the most expensive method)

heres an inkblot you can use for the iron-on method or to create a stencil for the marker method

Use layers of opaque tights. Two white, one black, and I plan on using indian ink on mine, it looks great, and is simple. You can pick them up at Wal-Mart : D

No possible way to make the moving shape mask, never will, it's a comic.

I had this idea, of taking a mini projector, and putting it inside the fedora. It would be connected to an ipod, that has a homemade video of changing inkblots. I think if we could get it to project dark enough, this might be possible. I think having a layer of black mask under the white would help with the darkness. What do you think?(Don't steel my idea please)

I've thought of something similar for simulating the Goa'uld eye flash from SG-1 using UV LEDs and contacts. Your idea may work but it would require a pretty small projector that wouldn't be seen under the fedora or weigh it down causing the brim to droop.

ulp... but i just had a real idea.
make a mask similar to the comic, with a white base layer and a thin clear membrane over the top. put in painted black metal shavings and use some weak magnets placed symmetrically behind the mask to move the metal shavings around into different shapes. maybe you can isolate a nose area and a cheek area and eyes etc. so that way the shavings won't just go all over the place like crazy... maybe put a hard resin "face" behind the mask like the movie version and the spiderman movie mask, which can house some tiny little motors that will randomly move the magnets around on little tracks, and have it all linked to a timer so it shifts every thirty seconds or so. with the resin hard mask you could still breath with enough air holes and you could do whatever you wanted over the top of it.

impossible???? probably, but still throwing it out there for the brainstorming session.

The only problem with your idea is that while it could probably reasonably duplicate the look and effect of the movie mask the membrane covering might make it a little difficult to breath in. As long you have no problems with not breathing it should work great. :D

With a quick find of a name and an image search, there's the projector. You would probably need to have a mirror to reflect the image down onto the face, which would be inside the hat. Im not exactly sure on the setup. I really think this could work! Except for the fact that the projector is $400......

I was thinking the same thing right after I posted my comments on the idea but there's still the problem of projecting the image out from inside the fedora. The inside of the fedora would provide more than enough room for the projector but unless you can project out from fiberoptics there's no way that I can think of getting the image to project out.

From what I've seen, people use normal paint to do their masks as usual, then use the heat activated paint over their mouth and nose. That way, when you breath, it will give you the moving mask effect.

Can you help me find some of that paint stuff online for cheap? I see that the one you're using is expensive, and I'd rather try to do it myself with cheaper stuff. It needs to be able to ship to the US and for under or around 20, which would be ideal. If you can't find anything, I guess I'll live.....

Never say never clayster. It's not impossible, just very impractical and expensive.

IBM actually created a material that would allow you to change the pattern on a material by sending very small amounts of voltage to it. The basic idea was to create a reusable newspaper or book by having all the text change. Now cost, that's another thing entirely.

On a larger scale they have looked at a similar technology for wallpaper, where you could change the wallpaper in your room just like changing it on your computer desktop.

I like the heat activated paint idea. Seems like a decent solution. Make sure it's non toxic ;)

The only problem buddy is that I would probably buy the cheapest. I have contacted and spoken with over 6 companies so you can be sure I have the cheapest I can find...and it isn't that cheap!:facepalm
