Hey everybody, getting ready to start my first armor set and i was wondering about alternative materials. I was thinking of using a shatterproof plexiglass that is 150 time stronger than glass, and i wanted to know how you could mold it? Also interested in tips on weathering and painting.

I'm not sure how well that would bend. plexi is meant to be scored and broken. Besides that is kinda expensive unless you already have a bunch of it. You could try the trash can method seen here : http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/showthread.php?t=6290&highlight=trash+armor

I'm currently working on a scratch built helmet using cardboard barrels. I get them from work , dry materials come in them. They are about an 1/8" thick and are very strong for cardboard. The draw backs are that it is difficult to cut, I use a jig saw but you need to be careful. Also bending them to shape can to tricky, if you spray them lightly with water they soften up enough to form simple bends. I having trouble with the cheeks right now due to their complex shape. Sintra is probably your best bet and its not too pricey.

Good luck....
