Pepakura Model

Outlaw Assassin

New Hunter
Hey all, its Outlaw again. I have been over at 405th.com looking at the Halo Master chief stuff and its pretty cool. They use this modeling program called "Pepakura" to make the armor and helmets out of paper. Now I'm sure this is old news to most of you but since I'm newer to the costuming community its something new for me. So I was wondering has anyone ever tried modeling any of the "Fett" stuff with this? I looks like it might work well for something like the gauntlets since they have a lot of edges. Its just a thought.......Later fellas....

Hm... something worth looking into, definitely. I'm probably going to be getting the full version of Designer soon, so if I do, I'll definitely put that onto my short list of armor parts to do. But from what I've seen, no, nobody has any gauntlet Pepakura files out there.

Yeah I have those templates......that's not what i was asking. I just saw the pepakura builds over at the halo site 405th.com and just thought it was an interesting idea. Didn't know if anyone had tried it. That's all.

The gauntlets are probably the only parts that would work, everything else is too flat for it. I do plan on doing an RC as soon as I can find the high-res models in the game (used for cutscenes) and convert them to 3ds files.

I have created Fett gauntlets using pepakura. ;) They are modelled based on the blueprints drawn by our own WoF. Some details was fet out to keep the build as painless as possible with finer details being left out. Though the basic shape is there on both left and right gauntlets.

I also have a Fett helmet in the works and willl eventually get around to the rocket/jet packs. ;)

A frtiend of mine has also asked me to do him a Boushh helmet for his wife so There'll be one of those too in time.

Hope that helps.

I'm new at pepakura files and I get that you can take a 3d model and flatten it out, however when I do this the models take a lot of paper because they're to high of quality. Any suggestions.

High quality is the wrong term. High Poly. ;) A high poly model is not always necessarily better than a low poly model. It depends on the intended use.

Most 3D models you find online are high poly and therefore no good for Pepakura. You'll end up with hundreds if not thousands of parts which will take up alot of card and also take forever to build properly.

3D models intended for Pepakura use need to be relatively simple. With the key details being focused on. This is where lower poly models are better.

Don't forget, if you plan on building a prop or costume part with Pepakura then your whole build will be covered with bondo/filler in order to smooth it all out after fibreglassing. The Pepakura part of the build should only be seen as a base. A starting point that lays out the basic shape and key details. To finish a pep build well it still takes time, patience and a degree of skill to complete to the point that people would never even know it started out as a card build. ;)

I just got the metasequioa program, but i don't get how to really work it, do you know of any good tutorials that can show me what to do?
