    May 13, 2015, 5:58 AM - Painting help- Compressor and airbursh help ? #1

So I ordered an RS helmet and was told 5 weeks its now 3 weeks left will I probably receive the helmet .

    Question 1:
There are two threads that I have been reading Javee using American paints and terminal felter using humbrol uk based paints – I guess since I live in the uk that’s my viable option.
These Humbrol paints come in tiny cans, like real small, I been reading around that the best method is airbrush, I don’t know anything about them can someone walk be through what I have to do, they look too small to use in an airbrush do I need to use paint thinner to use an airbrush ?
I saw this on ebay is it good ? :
New Dual Action Airbrush Kit Compressor Nail Art Tattoo Cake Spray Set | eBay

    Can anyone recommend anything ?

    Question 2:
I am also aware of the thread by RafalFett's for Stencils and Templates,
The templates appear to be too big or too small, I saw somewhere that you can re size them by printing those 5% smaller or bigger I guess this is down to experimentation or is there a set method.

    Question 3:
I ordered Boba maker parts which have already been painted, I plan on using the templates and colour guides for the rest of the armour, are they similar in colour or will I need to do some matching

I've been planning ahead for my own build, and have quite a few friends who airbrush, some of them professionals. They all recommended the iwata neo gravity feed airbrush, and as far as a compressor, said to get something with a reservoir tank, regulator, and water trap. The neo will run you around 55 bucks US, and I wouldn't spend over 90 bucks on a compressor unless you plan on opening your own hip hop t shirt business lol.

Clear up the question for a better answer. You said you ordered some painted parts from BM. What parts are you referring to?
Better off ordering all the armor at the same time, as you want it painted with the same paint mix and pattern.
If it's just lid vs body armor you are referring to, the paint colors are different so it's not important to have them done at the same time or commissioned by the same artist. Hope that helps.

While I have not done airbrushing before and would have many questions about how to begin as you seem to have...Syllander is correct by pointing out it's difficult to understand what you want answered. I think you want some pointers on how to airbrush stuff, if that's the case there are plenty of you tube videos out there on how to airbrush. What specifically do you want to know?

I will try to answer your questions if possible.

    Question 1) Hopefully these help.
How to airbrush - the basics
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4K9jUWSdfMo
Boba Fett airbrushing tutorials (there are 26 episodes here)
    https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...5E85CFA8F72F56

    2) You print them out and put them on your body.

    3) If you are having different pieces of armor ordered separately that is pretty foolish for some pieces. First, most armor makers make their armor to a specific scale so that if everything is a little big (or small) at least everything is sized proportionally correct to each other. Second. it sounds like you are having these armor pieces painted before you receive them. This is bad since most people mix their armor colors to get the correct shade (green especially) for armor pieces.

    Sorry about the confusion:

The Armour was painted by someone on this group: the jobs ok but i dont like it and will re do the chest armour

The Cod, Kidney, Kneee was painted by boba maker :

    Armour:

    The Cod and kidney:

So in summary i need to paint: Chest, Sholulder, back, and helmet

Already painted: Knee , cod, Kidney

Thanks for the tutorials very useful will watch them.

Boba maker had someone cancel on him, so i got offered the cod, knee, kidney, gloves, pouches all pre painted a weathered for £200 (seperate was £400) so it was half price and a no brainer

The rest of the armour was bought different because of price; the chest armour is reddragon from these forums, the collar armour is boba maker, the back, shoulder and helmet is RS propmasters.

I would talk to Daz about his color list and paint manufacturer info. Mail order ( if possible) the same paints. Weathering techniques can help them blend in better. With the space in between the pieces ( girth belt, vest/shoulder armor) you should be able to pull this off even if there are subtle shade differences.

glad I could offer what little help I can. though as someone who's worked in a booth, I cant stress the importance of a reservoir tank and regulator. the water trap is a nice perk for extended sprays, but without those two features, paint spraying is just a pain in the shebs.

i was looking at the Neo iwata but the compressor is very poor its a crap one,

i have seen this and the bursh/needle is a direct clone of the iwtta neo, the compressor looks good much better than the iwatta neo compressor :

New Airbrush 1/6hp Compressor 2 Dual Action Air Brush Guns Kit Hose Needles Set | eBay

Then again it looks like a china clone

When it comes to tools, I never buy knockoffs. And you don't have to get a package. I know it saves shipping, but it's worth the extra charge to get a quality peice of equipmemt you won't have to replace or upgrade in 6 months. Get the iwata brush and shop around for a good small compressor.
