Paint help please

Hi All, I need some help please ...

I painted my bucket, red primer, gery primer, gloss black then chrome.

Here is my problem... my 1st coats of chrome was fine.. as in got hard and no residue coming off... now on my last coat seems residue coming off.. I let it sit for a week to allow for enough cure time.

Is it possible that the coats of chrome or reacting with each other? I used dupli-color chrome and like I said the 1st coats were just fine.

please help as I'd really like to apply my 1st coats of color today

Also, when I put some fineline tape on it.. it takes a little paint off...

should I be clear coating before?

anyone??

someone here has had to have experienced this?

I would say applying first coat of color would be OUT of the question...

First , why did you use Two different primers??.......
and What kind of BLACK did you use, I mean is it a different brand than the Chrome??...
And these are all ENAMEL right??

well.. I followed the bkbt build up.. knowing what I know now I would have used the grey filler primer I found only.. and eliminated the red.

all paints are enamel, and the 1st coat of chrome was fine and actually so was the 2nd.. but then I did more sanding for minor imperfections and then since then.. lots of residue..

grey primer was dupli-color, black was krylon, and chrome is dupli-color --- all enamel.

This afternoon, I decided to do a complete sand with 1500 to get some of it off. I have it to the point of no more residue..so I may leave it.. so that after I apply my colors then do weathering and expose some chrome it will actually look more like a really worn chrome( which I think fits with the Open Seasons pre blue/silver colors and refurb of armor) - hope that made sense.

I've also e-mailed dupli-color - as I would have thought as coat 1 was fine.. the others should have been.

any thoughts Spidey?

So the fact that I've sanded it to the point of no more residue would that allow me to apply primer? or would you sand back past the black?

and I guess to be sure I'll get myself some dupli-color black this time....

It was the dupli-color chrome... it is utter garbage... do not ever buy it!

I will be going out and getting the testors chrome for my airbrush... which is what I should have done in the 1st place.. oh well live and learn

the response I got from dupli-color was they advised that product tends to "leaf" and suggested two other ones... ya right...

One trick I did that helmed me on my second bucket was to scrub, and I mean scrub the entire thing down with a scotch bright sos pad and continually wash it. This was after letting it sit for a weekend and cure. Everyone says "You have to let the chrome sit longer then normal paint" witch is kind of true but really I find that its how thick you put it on. If you have a think build up of it on there you will find your self waiting a long *** time before it truly is cured. suggest a light single full coat and the the SOS, it leaves just a little bit of a tooth on the paint that helps your over coats stick better. The SOS pad also helps with dulling down the shine on the chrome a tad so it looks more used.
