I recommend the Paasche VL double action airbrush. It can be found for as cheap as $70...

Don't forget you'll need an air compressor as well...

I got a Snap-on duel action airbrush and oilless commpressor for $225 last year from a SNAP-ON truck that visits my local advance auto parts. They keep the truck well stocked, ask your nearest advance if your interested, all snap-on tools come with a lifetime warrantee

Krylon and Mustard gives a similar result and only takes hours versus weeks. Mustard Masking Rocks!

That is true spraypaint is alot cheaper, but with an airbrush you can mix paints to get the color your looking for, spraypiant is what you see what you get.

In the long run your going to spend just a little less on spraypaint than an airbursh and a set of paints to Paint a whole Boba from head to toe.

Plus you can use the airbrush for other projects, most of my paint cans from my first attept at Fett was waisted.

Hey Cal...you can go "Badger" (get it? Like the airbrush company...tee hee) folks away from the mustard technique if you like, but you could at least say something like "Hey John, your site is looking pretty good...how are the wife and kids?" ...before you slam me and my mustard!

I'm not dissing the condoment technique lol. I have seen amazing results with that, and you still use that with an airbrush it doesnt draw perfect strait lines. ITs just easier to get the paint you need from mixing. Orange and yellow= shoulder paint.

Hey dudes, use both techniques when needed!

I own two airbrushes, both are Badger dual action. That's what you want. The dual action allows you to control the air flow and paint volume out put. The 150 IL (they may have changed the name now) is a really good one.

You should be able to buy one from Michael's Arts and Crafts or Hobby Lobby. They are pretty common and affordable ($150 range).

I'd get a small compressor WITH a tank. (That will probably be more expensive than the airbrush actually.) The smaller air compressor with no tank tend to make the airflow uneven and can cause "issues" when painting.

Bah Humbug! I tried firing up the new Air Brush that I bought a few weeks ago and of course the air compressor is too weak (must be an altitude thing, i'm at 5,000 ft). It'll have to wait until tomorrow.

...hope I still have the recipt.

I just got the Paasche double action airbrush (VL Set) for Christmas. I've used it before and I liked it a lot, which is why I recommended it and why I asked for it for Christmas.

There is a way to get good air flow from a weak compressor and that is by puting a air tank with an psi gauge attached to it, there not that much and the airbrush charges the tank then all you need to do is set the gauge to the desired air flow, and you wont need a new compressor.

The compressor can only fill the tank to the limit of it's PSI; in the case of this compressor, it's 35, which at this altitude is not enough to operate the airbrush.

Been looking into airbrushes and in particular, this paasche airbrush systems....
Jeez-louise...
there's so many different variations?
whats, in people opinions best?....
single action or daul action or gravity feed or gravity feed/daul action?
internal mix? or external mix?
what vairable spray width?
whats the minimum specs needed for a good worthy compressor, i mean what voltage/psi/air displacement?
with tank/watertrap/pressure gauge and variable output pressure....
After taking a closer look into this subject...MY HEAD HURTS!

Can someone with loads of experience in this subject just note down what is in thier opinion the minimum spec's on what someone new to buying an airbrush, but with the money to do so should be aiming for if they were to use an airbrush for all aspects of costumeing, helmet/armour etc....

IE: compressor 48psi (or above)
160 watts (or above)
12 litres per min air displacement (or above)
etc etc etc...

It would very very helpful and save most of us newbies to airbrushing alot of time and money...
I spent on an airbrush (cheaply) years ago and found it to be extremely frustrating and useless...
hence i gave up and stuck to my faithful brush and steady hand...
But would most definetly take up using an airbrush again for the more professional look if it was easier to decide on what was worth the money if im going to get the results!

Double action, internal mix. I can't help you with much else, but I do know that those two features are better. Double action allows you to control both the airflow and paintflow with one finger.... as for internal mix, I'm told it gives a better mix of paint and air than external. My experience with airbrushes is limited but I do know those two features are what you want.
