New ver2. 300 helmet: Molding video

Tim Allen

Well-Known Hunter

Finally got around to finishing up this video of the new Ver2 helmets.

These helmets are larger than my 1st version and would easily fit some one with a 24" head.

Ill get a run of these fairly soon but for now enjoy the video....

Appologies if its choppy, my video editing skills are sub-par

Nice! I may not be a fan of 300, but the tutorial video is awesome! Any tips on casting and I'm all ears.

David.

Absolutely

Raw casting right out of the mold like in the video are 170.00 shipped in lower 48 states.

Raw castings for the ver 1 helmet are 160.00 shipped lower 48. I have to remold ver1 helmet (which are smaller than the new version) so that helmet will be out of commission for a bit

Great stuff, never worked in fiberglass before, was definitely enlightening. I have worked with rubber and plaster molds though so I could definitely follow what was happening. I have a few questions for you.

So the Gelcoat is the first part, what triggers the drying process, is it air?

Do you know which part of the gelcoat dries first, is it the outer part in contact with the mold or the inside?

How long does each step of the process take, including drying time?

Are any of the materials toxic?

I'm assuming the resin mud is to assist in giving the fiberglass something to adhere to, any more beyond that? It's a cold process correct?

I apologize for asking so many questions, maybe there's a link that would sum everything up for me.
