    Jul 12, 2008, 5:43 PM - need to paint DPM #1

    Hi guys

Just wondered if anyone has had experience of painting DPM (disruptive pattern material) ie camouflage.

My wife wants me to paint her custom mando in DPM and i want to get it similar to the pic shown but i want to airbrush it on. Then needless to say weather it.

I have thought about laying it on in its base colours but with each colour being weathered prior to the next base colour being added. The only problem though is I can't see how to do it without using a ton of masking fluid at each stage.

    any ideas?

I don't know if this helps (probably not), but I saw an episode of American Chopper where they did a Chopper for the National Guard.

Anyway, it showed them spraying the chooper to look like digital camo, and how he did that (I know it's not quite the same as DPM)... but I don't think there's any easy way without a lot of masking tape, templates, or masking fluid

If i was you i'd draw all the splotches with penicl and then put numbers (1=almond white,2=forrest green &3= dirt brown) in the fields. Then i'd just "paint by numbers" with the airbrush starting with the lightest colour first. Then go over it with the black adding the stripes.

I air brush a lot but I can't see how you would without masking it. If you want sharp edges the you need to. I would suggest waiting until then end product the weather away. I paint my sniper rifles and hunting supplies in various patterns and I may just be too narrow sighted to see how you could do it otherwise. Or you could use stencils but you would still have some soft edges or non-random patterns.
