Need opinions on my helmet.

Hey everyone,

I've been lurking around on here and after a long time I have finally gotten the proper materials to do pepakura builds, and Ijust finished my boba fett helmet with the thicker paper instead of the normal print paper I used, and I'm eager to start to fiberglass it, but first I would like an opinion from yo uguys if it looks ok, and if you have any tips with resinning and fiberglassing that would come helpfull for someone who has never done it before, thanks up front!

doesn't look thaat good. Maybe more pics from different angles. you can always finish a helm to test.

Probably should have done that from the beginning..

Btw, would you or aybody else happen to know how dried/cured whatever the term is feels like? I tested the resin out to see if I could do it during the winter in the cold temperature outtside due to lack of inside space, and the item i appleid it to has been sitting outside for a good 7 hours but still feels all sticky, so I don't know if its dried or if its supposed to feel like this.

also.... is this even in the right forum area? I thought it would be... if so, I guess I can close this and remake it in the proper one...

edit: creating it in the Boba Fett helmet section.

Looks pretty decent. A bit narrow looking at it from the front, but still not bad at all, especially for your first time.

Fiberglass resin will dry to a smooth, hard, not sticky finish. The reason its likely sticky is because it is cold. When you put the hardener in it, it creates a chemical reaction that creates heat that hardens the resin. So if its cold, it wont cure/harden. Its rough to try and work with it in the winter months without a proper "shop".

Nice! don't worry about the dome being a little bit wavy, because you can sand it smooth by applying bondo ( I assume you will?)
You could check out my Imperial Commando thread in the Star Wars costumes section, since I'm at that phase now with my pepakura helmet.
Good Luck!

Proper mixing of resin is important, mix it incorrectly with hardner and you can darn near cause a fire or on the other side never have it cure. I have used polyester resin for race car/tropy trucks and race bike repairs (my friends and I have expensive hobbies) and I like it because I can fix a part quick.
Now I prefer to use a Epoy based resin and I have always use West Sytem brand. I use it, just because it's the brand I have been using since I was a little kid helping my dad doing boat repairs and other projects. It is now even used in some of the composite aircraft builds out there and it is what I have used to do carbon fiber and glass work on them, since it is what the factory used. West system even has slow and fast hardeners so you can adjust your working/cure time and different fillers available to reduce my need to use a body filler and add support to seams.

The good thing about Polyester is, that I can go down to Walmart or Autozone and grab some in a hurry to do field repairs.

The big down side of West System is that I either have to special order it or go to a Marine hardware store to get it and it costs a lot more.

I have not done the work you are about to be doing with it, with either type so I am eager to know how it turns out.

Darth Voorhees, what do you use for your fiberglass builds?

i use regualr polyester resin and glass. I use bondo brand as its the least expensive and works excellent. I hav also used castin craft polyester resin if i want it to be a clear color rather than the yellowish color that the Bondo resin is. But ive been using it for years and every time ive tried a more expensive resin, i always go back to the bondo one lol. I also use regular bondo filler as well. I sometimes use an epoxy putty for repairs of things, but for most of my construction its all bondo stuff when im doing any fiberglass stuff.
