    Lifesize Y-Wing Build

After completing our lifesize builds of the Skiff & Scout Walker we have started building the full scale Y-Wing ......i know we are really mad but what the hell!

Its gonna measure approx 50ft long when complete.

These pictures were from the 1st part of the build:

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/organiz...recent_uploads

We are now in the 2nd part of the build that will see us build the Cockpit and sheet cover the engines etc.

I will update this thread over next few days with more images.

    Wish us luck.

Talk about a (another) dream build! wow. What are the main
references you use when doing a 1:1 build? (other than screen
captures). Will you skin the plywood with thin ABS or HIPS? Im
also excited to see how you're going to fabricate the domes for
the front of the wings/nacelles/engine pods.
Hats off to you gents, absolutely.

VERY curious where you store all these props when not in use. That's a problem we've encountered in my Garrison with our large scale props.

I am using various pieces as reference from screen shots to various models and toys.
The main body will be skinned with plywood, sanded lots and sealed before adding all the mechanical parts.
The engines sub frames have been constructed from 6mm steel plate cut and formed on a Plasma cutting machine and i have just finished rolling the outer skin with 5mm Foamex (Sintra) and it has turned out beautifully.

The domes are slightly more tricky and i am planning on carving them out of large blocks of polystyrene then sealing and coating them.

I am planning on taking some more pics this week to show you all the progress.

    Hi Bob
At present i have 8 lifesize sets/props stored between 3 different warehouse spaces, its getting harder to store as our builds keep getting more ambitious lol.
The Y-Wing is huge at 50ft long x 18ft wide x 7ft high and it will end up weighing approx 4 ton

I've got a 40x60 block building at the family farm. When you finish living out (and surviving) the trench run, disabling the frigate Priam etc. Send it over in sea containers and Ill happily store it for you
Im actually very interested in doing a 1:1 prop some day (in that same workspace) but its just something in the back of my mind right now. Can't wait to see the pics of you turning extruded on a giant lathe to get those domes ehhehehh.

that is just all kinds of awsome. with Tasmania being so small we seem to have no real desire for this. i would love to be able to see somthing like this at one of our cons.

I was thinking that your garrisons lone rebel pilot looked a little out numbered at Invasion II. I guess now He will have to recruit himself a tail gunner to stop those TIE's sneaking up from behind and picking him off.

Maybe you can cut leg holes in the bottom and let him go on marches Flintstone's style.

Nah. Two people could never support that weight.

will you be going to Tosche Station to pick up some power converters?

really impressive, are you going to put wheels and an engine? or maybe try and get it into a museum of aviation?

Actually we have four speeder bikes already (three Aratech 74-Z's and Darth Maul's Bloodfin). There should be pic's on the Emerald Garrison web site or our facebook page.

Going Y-Wing? In this economy? You should have gone with the A-Wing Prius edition. .15 Lightyears a gallon. Well done my friend. That is truly commendable.
