Nov 3, 2011, 7:49 AM - Krylon Olive Ultra Flat Camouflage as Base ESB Rattlecan paint? #1

I'm ready for a repaint of my Boba soon. How do you feel about this as a base green for ESB Boba Fett? I came accross this at Walmart recently. I use Krylon Italian Olive Green Satin as the base green for my ESB Boba Fett. I've buffed out the satin but this looks good to me too. Same color but completely flat. I think it looks a tad darker in ultra flat. What is your opinion?

I think it's hard to say just from an image with a rattlecan color. Do some test and the answer will follow shortly (from the experts, not me).

I know its hard to tell... I was wondering if others may have used it for something before (maybe for another application) . I seriously am thinking of an entire repaint with this since I have to anyway.

I will be using the files you made up to help as well!!! (thanks!)

It really depends what you're looking to achieve in terms of finish, accurate, or good enough, the original helmet base colour is different from that of the chest armour and other pieces. Whichever you decide the best way to determine a colour from a rattlecan is to test it on something. Good luck

Thank you! I really am not good with colors especially subtle changes (color blind issues) ... I know there are airbrush colors that many agree on but I'd never be good at mixing them. That's why I'm always looking at the rattlecans.

I think I'm going to buy this color and see how it looks against the current green I have. This flat camo cerainly seems darker than what I currently use.

Question: Which is darker? The helmet base green or the armor? Again... my eyes can't really tell that well from the screencaps.

    Thanks for your help!!!

From what I see the armor green is the darker one, then comes the helmet and the lighter green is the one from the gauntlet/jetpack (these two parts has the same weathering type and colors, which differ from the rest of the suit). I hope it helps.

If you are determined to use the rattlecan colours you can achieve good results by taking your time with applications and weathering, the armour is the darker shade with the helmet and gauntlets being lighter. One tip I have used many times with weathering is buffing the paint very lightly, once dried, with 0000 grade wire wool, also if you wanted to get the green a little lighter you could try a few 'mist' layers with a lighter shade, this means basically spraying not directly onto the part in question but just around the area and from a greater distance, so the mist from the paint adheres naturally, like I said, take your time and I am sure you can produce some great results

    Thanks!

I bought the paint this weekend. I will be looking to do the armor repaint in the next few weeks using Rafal's templates. I'll post up the results and see what TDH thinks. Wish me luck!
