I sent this in PM before being fully validated - but I'd like to order 7 yards of this price pending. If not then I'll only take 4yds unfortunately thats the best I can estimate.

    Nice to meet you all.

What type of fabric was the general vote. I figured a lightweight 100% cotton, but others said something different. Any ideas guys??
Lightweight 100% cotton will be nice, but it needs to be a bit "wrinkle proof".

Some cotton is more prone to wrinkle than others. If you get a cotton/poly blend, it will be more color fast, less loss of color over multiple washings.

If it is similiar to the fabric of an average dress shirt material, that should be fine, My hubbys' dress shirts are 65% poly, 35% cotton, wrinkle resistant. It will wear better and again, have less color loss.

    Just MHO

I can't wait! I may want more than 4 yards, depending on price.

I am going with what Ladysewforus said. A non wrinkle blend similar to a nice dress shirt would be great.

    I can't wait!!!

I was thinking the same thing with the polyester cotton blend. Most dress shirts are made with this fabric...I think that we can go with LSFU when it comes to fabric knowledge...she's an expert and a half!! Now, the big question...I know a lot about fabrics, and I'm a good sewer....what is the right fabric weight??? I honestly know nothing about that!

Ahhh finally validated..Have been following this thread for awhile waiting for all of this to come together. Looks great guys can't wait to see the finished product! Couldn't justify the bounty some are selling this shirt for..This looks to be the most accurate pattern right now. Kwally any updated news? Whens that face to face with the manager?

Off to fish, If I catch a nice halibut kwally maybe we can make a tradeoff for some fresh alaskan hali? This joker biz is expensive!

we've already been through this... check the past page... please...
I read the last page. Everyone thought it was a light blue or purple... then the closer people looked they thought they could see white. Then a nice pattern was made by a board member, but too much white shows in my opinion. IF a white was used in the screen used shirt, then the pattern used was so tight you couldnt tell the white was underneath unless you really put it under a microscope. It doesn't look right. In post 200 the screen used costume was posted and like ghostsoldier said, the shirt looks darker than white. The whole goal is getting a shirt that looks like the one in the movie. Just sit and look at the pictures from post 200, its darker than a white shirt with purple designs on it. I am not trying to argue, I just want a shirt that looks exactely like the one in pictures and on screen. I thought we were going to vote anyways?

The pattern IS fine, but when it is printed on a shirt there is usually a bit of bleed; so while it is definately acurate in pattern, the lines are very thin. on the one 'box/grid' design. I recently found a shirt that I was originally going to print WHITE onto that had a sort of... sheen too it. Perhaps sheen is not the word. It reflected light in slightly different ways. I can only assume that this is what the jokers shirt does as well. A fabric of that sort, has a tendancy to be more subject to radiosity (or color reflected onto another surface *to test this stick a yellow sheet of paper under your face and you'll see what I mean*)
The base is definately white... its just picking up the radiosity of the light violet patterns.

The tough part is figuring hout the type of fabric this actually is. I'll check the tags on those shirts tonight and let you know what I find out.

i am a sm-xs so I'd need enough for two shirts but put me down for enough for three. Mise as well have extra to play with. THanks. Is Pinder in on this? I wanted to let him know I aranged his patterns onto a couple of ties for myself on zazzle. Not for public sale of course but wanted to show him how well they came out. In case he wanted to sell them himself.

When you order you should be able to tell them you want a shirt weight, explain to them what it will be used for. It should be lightweight, but somewhat durable. I would think if you explain to them it will be used for making dress shirts, they would have a suggestion. As far as the poly-cotton blend, Kwalley pm'd me and did bring up the fact that poly-cotton will not dye.

I did not read all of this thread, forgive me, there is a lot, so I do not know if this will be dyed, or screen printed, or what the process will be. If it is possible to use a poly-cotton, I do think the color and the shirt will last longer and be more comfortable. If they cannot print, or dye, or whatever they are doing to get the pattern onto the fabric. I would agree with you on a lightweight cotton.

I would also ask the business that will do this about the wrinkle factor. I have some lightweight 100% cotton that I use for "mock-up" fabric and it wrinkles, and it does not even iron out smooth. Hopefully the people you are working with will have some ideas for you.

The company uses digital printing straight to the fabric. I don't think that will interfer with the polyester blend. They also do sublimation, heat transfer, etc. So if it for some reason doesn't work with the 65-35 blend, there are many other options for printing.

Sounds great. So, I would prefer the 65 poly, 35 cotton, dress shirt like material.

I am just one small drop in this bucket, so yours is the final decision.

    Thanks for doing this.

Well, I finally got validated here.

Glad everyone likes my pattern. There's roughly 12 hours into it, and my eyes are still not back to normal. I plan to look it over again tonight, and change the colors around. I just used the eye dropper tool in photoshop to quick fill in the colors on the original. I too now believe the base fabric to be white.

Why talk with a custom printer about the socks? Get them from the company that supplied them for the movie. They are supposed to be available before Halloween.

    Kwally,
I'll take 4 yards (enough for an x-large shirt)...and I think a 65/34 poly blend would be best....

For those looking for a coat pattern, you can modify a Simplicity 4083 Willie Wonka coat...

...or a Laughing Moon #109 "Prince Albert" frock coat pattern....

...for a vest, use the Simplicity #4762 "D" pattern...

I found this gem at Sears today! Thanks for whoever it was to push me in the right direction. I looked for a button down shirt and vest as well at the thrift stores, and all I could find for vests was ONE white vest from The Coat Factory, but it didn't have a collar on it.

The Tie looks ALOT more greener and close in person. -
Nice find! I snagged one of these this afternoon, the last one they had.

I would recommand trying J.C.Penny's though. I think Stafford is usually their brand. Besides they are having a buy one tie get one half off right now. And I can always use more ties for the funeral biz.

Awsome, thanks GS, I went threw the books and didn't see the vest pattern anywhere, now I don't need to worry about find one. Now for vest fabric.

I did grab a Stafford purple metalic shirt today at the Goodwill for $3, just incase. Is there an ETA on price per yard, or any sort of guestimate?

EDIT - Ya, it was JCPenny I found the tie at, and ya, 50% off the second one was nice if they had two in stock. Went to so many places yesterday Sears just stuck with me I guess. The guy at the register tried getting my to buy these cheap ties, he was so annoying at recommending me them, I finaly told him it was for the Joker, he then didn't get it. I told him I costume as the Joker from Batman, he told "Oh, well good luck with that."

I licked my lips and said "Worry about yourself there." and walked off.

Nice I'll get those too! I just want to be sure to have my pairs of socks ready well beforehand. Especially if the Tabio socks are a limited run. WHo's all going for the 4 button Vest? I'm going to space them for 5 minus the 2nd to the top.

Hi everyone, nice to meet you all. I just got my account validated and I plan on being one of the people in this crazy fabric deal.
I wanted to pose a question to the group. Does anyone have any reference material concerning the blue suitcoat that we never clearly see in the movie?
