Rob
they're nice though arent they! heh
i'm having mine tailored to be a skinny fit, i had to order medium as they didn't do small.
i like the colour though, there's something about the blue i like.
and yep, mine only arrived this week, i'd forgotten about it so it was nice surprise when the Royal Mail man turned up with it!!
then the next day he brought me my socks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they are sooooooo cool i havent taken them off - ugh!!! hahaha!!
OKAY EVERYONE HERE IS YOUR CHANCE!!!
Every time I do a replica costume for myself, I wind up with a little bit of leftovers. This Joker is no exception. Just like many of you, I have been working for months on my outfit to get it as close as possible. During that process I have collected various items to build upon. Now I have come to the point in my creation where I have pieces that I no longer need, but that are still perfectly usable.
Now I am not an opportunist and I do not care to profit from my fellow Clown Princes. I simply wish to unburden myself of my excess costume pieces. I will be putting the items pictured below up on eBay later this coming weekend.
My opening bids will all be extremely reasonable. I only wish to get back the money that I originally paid for each item and to lighten the load of miscellaneous part that I have laying about the house.
I hope that my excess can help out any of you here on the thread or maybe someone else you know. Please direct any questions about these items to me through eBay and NOT THIS THREAD. I do not want to clog things up any more than I already have. That being said, on to the pictures...

http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b...it/Joker20.jpg http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b...JokerSocks.jpg
There will be two pair of suspenders (braces) starting around $30. My first attempt (NOT PICTURED) and my second attempt (the pair above). There will also be two of the infamous "smiley face" vest button for those interested, staring around $1, and finally there will be one pair of replica socks (not tabio) starting around $10. These items are all new and never worn. These are all just extra now...
Again, please do not blow up this site with questions or comments. I just wanted everyone here to have the inside information about the pending sale of my leftover items...
Thanks!!! :D
nice...will have to put me a bid on the braces might save myself a bundle..are you going to let us know when you list them?
I'm in such suspense on perhaps seeing a shot of this swatch ;_;
am i too late to get in on the fabric if its not to expensive?..
Not at all the order thread hasnt even gone up yet.
this knife (cupid clone black) is available at...
wait i screwed up the link...>:
I found this same knife for $22 (no shipping) at
http://www.bladeplay.com/cat--All-It...ch=cupid+clone
That dang knife is so impossible to find now. Even eBay doesn't have them anymore. Best you can get is the one with the partially serrated blade. ::sigh:: I got taken on iOffer. Had a pic of the right one, I got the alternative.
::another sigh:: Whatever. At least it's fun to play with, and most people won't notice.
Yeah...even the place where I got mine is out of stock now...and they were going for 50 bucks....:suprise
http://directknifesales.com/index.ph...d&productId=53
Rob
While we're talking about the knives, I'd just like to warn everyone that these are technically switchblade knives, no matter what the place you bought it from says (the eBay listing I bought said it wasn't, which is wrong, wrong). It's illegal to buy, possess, and carry switchblades in many states, so I'd check the laws before going out on Halloween with your new toys. :D
(Technically it's even illegal to ship them through USPS, in any state. :lol)
Hey Jokers!! Just nabbed me a bargain on some toy grenades off ebay! Hit ebay and put "toy grenades" in your search. The guy selling them goes by the handle "lordbuckthor" and he has about a dozen of these babies left. So in case you're threatened by anyone on Halloween night, you can admonish them not to "BLOW things out of proportion"!
enjoy!
Hey Sinister,
Will you please post the link to the suspenders auction when it's up?
Thanks!
LMAO I love that line..

Sorry Kwally, I just got a little excited thinking about the near future of our shirts... ;)
:cheers
Well guys...I have the swatch and the fabric weight and printing looks beautiful!! I'm now going ahead with a color match. If everything goes as planned, I'll start taking orders really really soon!! Just keep checking!!!
SHOW US KWALLY! SHOW US!!
DITTO what klohse said
Ohhh, buddy. If the tension were any thicker, you could cut it with a... potato peeler. ;)
For reals: I obsessively-compulsively check the status of this thread three times a day. The day the swatch is posted I know I will dance.
My GOD is that music to my ears as well. I was so antsy as to if the vector would come out right or if their computers would hate it
Awesome. Simply awesome. Kwally, you're the freakin' MAN!
I can't wait to see a picture of the Swatch!
I CHECK THIS THREAD MORE TIMES THAN I CHECK MYSPACE! c'mooooon kwally!
Sinister:
Do you happen to have the exact information on the brand and style of the pants? I was over at Macy's tonight looking and I saw "The Dylan" from Calvin Klein on the sale rack in a light gray pinstripe. Is that what you used or was it some other type?
And here's the first run makeup test I did this weekend...need to deepen the scars still and add a little latex.
im practically dyeing of excitement for seeing this swatch!!
nathair nice make up, did you do the scars with rigid collodion?.. i think the im gunna say..left? scar (the one that looks like a hole) needs to be closer to you lip as you cant really see it in this pic but the "smile" scar looks good, but yer does need to be deeper :-)
swatch swatch swatch! LOL!
I definately want to order some fabric too. I need about 2 x 2 yards :)
Whoo! Swatch! I'm so EXCITED! (I too am now visiting this site more than my email or myspace.)
i've been here like 4-5 times today so far..
Hello, I'm interest Joker's Hexagon Fabric Print Shirt.
Which pattern decided it?? Is it Pinder91??
And i wish you retouch part SEVEN pointed out.
Can you tell me which material and how was printed by which way?
how much per 1yard? Can you deliver it to South Korea?
and Can i buy after i compare with your sample?? Can you offer sample? if it's a high quality i really wanna but that.
dont think a price has been confirmed yet...
bring on the swatch! lol! To tell ya the truth i wouldn't be fussed about color match just the design i mean its still going to look light blue/lavender once its printed on white..
from what i know re-touching any of that vector is completely outta the question. it has been EXTENSIVELY worked on to get it that accurate from what i remember reading, and the pattern has been sent to the printer already (hence the swatch being received soon by Kwally).
that being said- i would think of two other things: first being that sending a sample to anyplace near China is risky due to the possibility/probababilty of this being extensively copied (this is not meant to insult the South Korean by any means- i am just saying that it is/could be risky as to the motives of this person for nobody knows anybody on here really). the other thing i would very much think of is the possible shipping charges to anywhere that far away.
Shipping is not an issue - but I belive sending a swatch to ANYONE is risky at this point.
Ok guys, I'm going to open the order thread in a couple minutes...just let me type it all up and make everything CRYSTAL clear....ya...I'm not shipping out samples buddy...especially out of the country...i'm just one guy...not an entire company!
Here's the link to the order thread guys: http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/showt...160#post366160
$26 a yard. I ended up getting the base fabric for $3 a yard so the overall cost for you guys went up a dollar.

I just can't hide it
I'm about to lose control and I think I like it
I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW I WANT CHOO, I WANT CHOO
Ahem.
Kwally, just to be clear: there WILL be a second order, after Halloween, right? If not, when's the deadline? Money's going to be tight for me for the next few weeks, but I do have emergency funds if it comes to it. However, I'll gladly wait a few months if it means someone more interested in Halloween than I will get their wish.
:-) x infinite
Hey Kwally, are we going to be able to see a sample?
I'm still buying, of course, but I'm just danged anxious to see a piece of product to tease me!

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...e/DSCI1466.jpg
So do you have a large roll of the fabric kwall? or just waiting until everyones order is in until you make the BIG order?
Paypal sent for 3 yards, kwally. :)
I was gonna get 4 yards, but at 63" wide, a large shirt only takes 2 1/2 yards, an extra large uses 3...no need for me to be greedy, and I'm only making 1 shirt...I'm sure, with the interest here on this thread, that someone will buy my other yard!:)
Thanks again to you kwally, pinder and sereiana...you guys are the absolute best, and we Jokers, collectively, will owe you for the success of our costuming efforts!:D
Now, someone start a "Finished Joker Shirt Photos" thread!
Rob
oh thanks for that bit of Info ghost i wasn't sure if i should get 3 or 4 yards cant wait to put my order in when i get paid & a shipping quote for the UK
Here's where I got the info...I'm about the same size as the guy who posted the question....
How much fabric (cotton) does it take to make a men's shirt?
I am looking to get a collared shirt created and I am wondering how many square feet it would take (roughly) to get a men's collared shirt made? I am 6'2 220 with long arms... I typically take a L or XL shirt. How much fabric would I need (I'd rather have a lot more fabric than too little)... please help me!!
P.S. I mean a long-sleeved shirt made out of cotton.
I realize I might need 100% of the fabric... but how many square feet?
Best Answer - Chosen by Voters
It depends on the width of the fabric. Some shirtings are 45 inches wide, some are 54 inches wide and some are 60 inches wide. Stay away from any fabric under 45 inches, It won't be wide enough for the sleeves and it won't be wide enough if the button stands are folded over self facings.
Don't go for square inches or square anything, that's not how fabric is measured or bought due to the fact that the pieces that make a garment aren't square. You buy by linear yards.
For a long sleeve shirt I usually buy a minimum of three and a quarter yards of 45 inch wide and two and a half for 60 inch wide fabric (you are about the same dimensions as my hubby) this gives me enough to make mistakes and enough to test sew any details that might be difficult.
Here's the page with a free for download PDF pattern for a classic yoked shoulder men's shirt from Burdastyle: http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns/show/... You'll need to lengthen the sleeves and the torso, there are lengthening instructions on the burdastyel site in the sewpedia area.
Vogue patterns has some very nice men's wear patterns, and their patterns produce very professional results. Here's their shirt pattern, yardages are on the webpage: http://www.voguepatterns.com/item/V8096....
For sewing techniques I highly recommend David Page Coffin's excellent book Shirtmaking. It has tips and tricks that will make shirtmaking a breeze and includes instructions on draping a custom fit shirt pattern. The technique for making the sleeve placket is the best anywhere, even though it seems complex it makes the sleekest placket I've ever seen. Here's the book listing on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Shirtmaking-Develo...
The best part of men's shirts is that the basic yoked dress shirt never goes out of style and it can be adapted from dress to casual depending on the fabric choices, pocket details, colour, etc. They aren't difficult to sew, once the basic techniques are mastered you can have as many shirts as you want, and you can make them fit you perfectly.

I know everyone is asking this, but could you please post a scan or a photo of the swatch? I hope I don't sound impolite, but sending $100+ to someone I don't know for a product I haven't seen just doesn't sit well with me, if you know what I mean. :doh
(Ideally it would be a scan of just a section of the swatch, so the pattern couldn't be copied from it but we could still see and judge the printing quality. :) )
a bit steep, but very, very worth it. i just have one question, since it is 100% cotton won't it shrink a bit? should we wash the fabric first to preshrink it before we tailor it, or just make the shirt first and then shrink it?
Just Payed for mine as well. I cant wait. :cheers
Do we have a photo that shows what color the buttons are on this shirt? Minutae, I realize, but since we're going to all this trouble for the fabric, having the right color buttons seems to make sense.
Order in! And thanks again to Kwally, Sereiana, and Pinder for their work on this. Just the thought of walking around a Rubies Joker in a month and a half and laughing is getting me excited.
My order is in!
Thanks
Kwally, Sereiana, and Pinder!
Kwally, are you still possibly doing a post Halloween order? I fully intended to order, but unfortunately had an unexpected hundred dollar car expense. So now, I'm poorer than poor.
What's the deadline for this order? Date or amount of people?
Thanks for all your hard work!
you & me both ladymerri im going to a con in november & would like to have my shirt by then..
i want to put my order in but i really dont know how much i will need for a small shirt. i head at this sizr some are makine large shirts out of 2 1/2 yards.
that means small must be much less right?
think a small shirt will take you about 2 yards aswell, BTW klohse the buttons are small clear ones
thanks for the button info!!
Oh, and Nathair, careful with the Rubies' Joker digs--I've ordered a Grand Heritage Joker costume, just because the trenchcoat and pants have been a SUCH pain in the gluteous maximus to find at a reasonable cost. BUT I'm accessorizing with THIS shirt, my own vest, shoes, suspenders, tie, a Goodwill bought sportcoat, THE socks, etc.
SWATCH!
SWATCH!
SWATCH!
:D
My order is in. We are suppose to get these in plenty of time before Halloween right?
My payment has also been sent. Can't wait to get the fabric and make my very own great joker shirt :)
Thanks to all guys that made this possible!
Hey Kwally, does it come only by the yard, or in 1/2 yards, etc.? I need 3 1/2 yards, as soon as you get back to me I'll send out payment. :)
I think you read that wrong...That was a little bit of ripping on the Rubies one. I'm custom tailoring the coat and vest, trying to buy the pants like Sinister did, and skipping the sport coat (since it will still be hot here and the coat will cover most).
I've already planned out exactly how I'll be laughing at those type of costumes.
No offense taken. Are you gonna give them the business Joker gave his goon after getting electrocuted by Batman's mask? I LOVE that scene!!
Oh and one more thing:
SHOW US THE SWATCH KWALLY!
SHOW US THE SWATCH KWALLY!
SHOW US THE SWATCH KWALLY!
SHOW US THE SWATCH KWALLY!
Put a SMILE on our FACES!
got my order in, thank you all who had a hand in making this pattern become a reality, i know there was a lot of hard work and long hours put in to it.
The swatch I have isn't of the joker print guys! It was a swatch of the material and a VERY intricate pattern that the company printed. I should be getting a swatch of the joker print soon. I'm hoping to have this to all of you asap. Remember: It takes 3 weeks for production. I will urge my fabric rep to get it done asap!!!
Hello everyone! I've been watching this forum for almost 2 weeks now, and finally joined to be part of the fun! I wanna thank a lot of you - you've given me so many good ideas for this costume (dying pants, suspenders, etc). I used to be such a hard-core costumer and have slowly been giving up, and I stumbled on this forum while trying to find some cheap way to do his shirt when I realized what I was doing. I'd forgotten how satisfying it is to get these costumes done right. I instantly realized that I used to spend easily $300 on a costume to have every detail right, and here I was trying to keep this under $50 (college did this to me!!!). I was rather ashamed of myself. So I went out of my way and decided now that I finally got a paypal account I'm going to put it to good use! So I'll let ya'll know how I'm approaching this costume.
Head: I have natural blonde hair, and if I don't wash it for about 2 weeks it actually turns black/green just like the jokers. That part of the movie is NOT exaggerated. BUT I'm not doing that. I have a friend who used to dress as Severus Snape quite often - she has a formula for greasy hair. First off my hair will be the EXACT LENGTH as his by the end of october (if not a bit shorter). I'll braid it all (lol dread-like) and sleep like that thurs evening. Friday (halloween) I'll spray down my hair in PAM or just vegetable oil it up and take out the braids. TA-DAA I have perfect Joker hair.
Make-up: Fairly simple. I bought Faux Skin to make the scars, spirit gum to hold it down, and latex to blend and more stick-age, my friend already had the white theatre make-up, black lipstick smears and looks best for his eyes but don't forget the black eye-liner first to get in real close to the eyeballs, and you need 2 shades of red for his smile (the bright red for the main smile and a darker shade for his upper lip). As a girl I already own this lipstickz. And as a bonus, I bought some yellow tooth decay paint for my teeth (hell yeah!)
Clothes: This will just be in one grouping because I haven't been able to start sewing yet. I bought the suspenders and stretchy print ons for it already (transfers just got here today). I bought white pinstriped material for his pants (the pinstripe is metallic so it wont dye and they were the perfect distance apart) and Blue and Red dye so I can create my own purple. His socks are in the mail. A friend from work is donating his shoes for me to sandpaper and destroy. I have the blue satin and green front for his vest (buying pattern soon) and the purple and orange/red lining for his trench coat. I found the PERFECT purple-gray suit jacket at Good Will. I've found perfect gloves for him but hell for me if I tell you until I've secured them for myself! lol His tie I'm still working on (I really don't want to resort to the zazzle tie). His shirt I've recieved about 5 quotes on all from ****** fanmade stuff the textile mills offering digital printing. Textiles won't go lower than $270 for about 3 yards (not including $30 shipping) and hack-jobs have murdered his awesome shirt. So I've concluded I'm going to cheat on this one thing. I have an old white button-up shirt I don't wear much anymore. I'm going to very carefully measure out and buy transfers. Through some awesome photoshop skills I've secured a swatch I can print and I'm just going to cover the exposed areas (collar/sleeves and some extra). I'll seam rip the shirt into flat pieces and then sew it up again later. I won't shirk the shirt though (haha) I'm buying the best iron-ons available to ensure I don't crinkle crack and flake.
If anyone has any tips, suggestions, or know if I can buy a similar tie of his at Dillards or JC Penny or something (as often as I buy ties JOKE) PLEASE feel free to let me know.
Here's some photos of my make-up test. I'm wearing the coat from good will, but the brown shirt underneath was the shirt I'd worn to work. XD so just... ignore that. The knife was a handmade one made by my dad that was just sitting in our basement.

This is a good picture of my hair (the light really shows it - blah!) My hair is naturally a bit wavy/curly. So That's just how it always looks. I honestly tried to mess it up and failed. D:
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...r/mejoker3.jpg
Sorry its blurry (these were all taken via camera phone). But the light/perspective really lets you see the lumps of scar tissue around my mouth. I'll definately blue the make-up more next time, this is too definate.
Last pic I swear:
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...r/mejoker2.jpg
No coat. I'm removing the latex and faux skin. This is just to let you know what you have to look forward to if you use this method. It hurt LIKE HELL. I personally don't mind so much, but just an FYI.
Feed back would be AWESOME
everything looks pretty cool, although i think you should consider doing more than one layer or making your faux skin thicker to give your scars more depth i cant recall how many times this has been said but Rigid Collodion is one f the best things out their for scarring...
I'm glad I found this thread a few weeks ago, my fabric search has been futile in terms of production. Now after the fabric arrives all I have left is to paint my gloves and order my blazer. Thanks again for the fabric and organizing this!
ok guys I just wanna clear up some confusion...there a no longer going to be a post halloween run because that whole deal was with a different company. If you are truly interested but can't pay right now I totally understand. Just pm me to reserve your fabric so I can take note of it. I'm going to let this run for at least a week and a half or until 400 yards have been spoken for. I appreciate you guys answering some questions for the newbies because I really get sick of typing on his iPhone!!
Thanks. I love costuming but as I got older I had more priorities and costuming got pushed further and further back because it was only a hobby. This costume sort of woke me up and now I'm happily MAKING time for this!
*nod* I think your right. I only had one thing of the faux skin and didn't want to use too much on a test. But you definately have a point with the depth. Especially since it'll be halloween NIGHT, so I want to details to stand out (like how theatre make-up is approached).
ZOMFG!!
Im totally sorry is this craps you out kwally but its something i think should be brought forward for peeps who cant afford the fabric
http://www.craftycomputerpaper.co.uk...tID=28&CatID=6
Fabric transfers!! (transfers made from cotton not paper)
I believe we tried that and it didn't work the same. To tough to take care of and get right. Plus it looks unnatural and makes the shirt stiff
No they were PAPER transfers these are made of COTTON!
With the exception of the stand-in shirt (Singapore),
This is my Halloween costume...

After Halloween, I plan on finish it off with the jacket and coat so I can use it for conventions and future Halloweens... :cheers
WOW, that costume looks awesome. The new shirt should really tie it all together!
costume looks GREAT! thats reminded me i need to turn my trousers up a few inches as their very baggy
only suggestion though, put the chain through two belt loops
SIN! Major props. The vest is top notch. Of course the pants as well! I can't wait to see the finished set.
:thumbsup:cheers:thumbsupHey Sinister the vest is my favorite part of your costume. Both the green front and I really dig the back great choice on the fabric. Everything else looks great as well, but the vest trumps everything but the Hex shirt as to how essential to the look it is. bad vest=lame Joker.
can you dye 60% Wool + 40%Terylene
and if this item were dark navy, could you add red dye to give it a purple hue. i know you cant really make dark lighter, but would red just change the colour?
cuz his pants have a navt tint to them dont they...
