Joker Hexagon Fabric Print Interest

As of right now, I cannot rule out that it is a white background...i think that it is a light blue, but I may be wrong! The actual tie used in the movie is a greenish color, but on film appears yellow and brown!!! Lighting and cameras have a knack of skewing colors in fabrics.

Agreed. I'm not as interested in getting the "real" color correct. I want the color to "appear" the way it does in the film.

Here is a copy of pinder's pattern with the colors quickly changed to give everyone an idea. BTW Anyone have an idea as to how many yards it would take to do a XXL shirt?

For a standard mens XXL long sleeve collar shirt, you will need about 3 5/8 yard if the fabric is 44-45" wide, if the fabric is 60" wide, 2 3/4. Then you can add a yard for "just in case".

I'm with Kwally and T-Bone. I vote for this one!!! :D

Thanks for the wonderful comments on my shoes...

For those interested. I modified a pair of ALDO brand shoes.
I wear a size 6 and these are a size 8 to give them that turned up nose "Charlie Chaplin" clown/hobo look. The original color is a chocolate brown, smooth leather. the original shoes have no detail on them. First, I took high grit sand paper to them. This makes them more of a suede texture and lightens the color. Once I had the right texture and tone, I used spare scraps of brown leather that I had around to make the added on patches arond the sides and back. I used a leather hole punch to make the hole pattern and then I roughed them up with the sand paper to match the shoes. Before I glued them onto the shoe I put in a faux stitch just below the holes. Finally I used BARGS leather glue to attach them...

I hope that helps anyone desperately trying to get the shoes done... :)

Now how's about that pesky shirt??? ;)

I'm with you guys...I like Pinder's pattern best, but I think it should be on a white fabric, or at the very least, a very light baby blue...most of all the film shots and posters I have (or have seen) give the impression of the shirt being either one of those colors....I think the perception of the general public would be the same either way; they will know who you are supposed to be. :)

The scale of the hexes, based on the interregation scene pics, look to be 1" to 1.25" across the facets.

Another question I have is the type of fabric it will be...Ledger's shirt seems to have a slight sheen to it, like satin or a nylon mix...it's not plain old cotton.

Sinister... those shoes are bitchin', man...excellent reproduction! :D Where did you get those socks? Hand painted?

So...are we down to a reasonable cost-per-yard estimate yet?

I don't think it was white fabric. I see NO white at all or any appearance that white was used. It looks like very light purple with dark purple designs. I think the color and pattern from post #119 is the best so far. Very nice.

Hey guys, I was lurking these forums a while ago getting plans for a fett helmet. Then I saw this (while searching desperately for a shirt) and definitely had to sign up! I've been trying to piece together this costume for a while now and the shirt has been worrying me the most. Kwally I'm glad you're going all out making sure this looks good. You can definitely add me to that list for (I think) 2 yards. I'm a size medium so I'm not too sure how much I'd need.

You guys should do a search for the Soho Lab Greene Road shoes. Those are the ones I picked up.

Thanks!
Anyone interested in the socks, they are from a company in England. They are actually knitted squares of color! No paint or dye. Totally screen accurate! I found them on eBay, but I know they have their own site too. I think I've seen it on SuperHeroHype. Their prices are totally reasonable, I got two pair plus shipping for under $40. Totally worth every penny!
Questions on the shoes... Please read post #125. Thanks!

Back to the shirt...
I like the color and patter on post #119.
I think the hexagons have 1 inch sides for scale.
I think the shirt material is a really pale version of the darker pattern color. Like in post #111.
I agree with Ghostsoldier that the shirt looks shiney, but that will all depend on what Kwally can get the pattern printed on.
I would rather have a slightly off shirt than no shirt at all... ;)

By the way, a round of applause to Kwally for getting all this up and running... 8)

I am pretty certain that the base of the shirt is an off white.

The honeycombs themselves are probably a dark purple that does look blue under different lighting.

The most popular size is 2" diameter (making each side 1").

One thing we need to do is determind which honeycomb patternes are actually on the screen used shirt. Personally, I do not believe that the circle pattern exists. I have seen some low res photos that makes it 'look' like circles, but are infact the 'Stars' pattern in a higher res photos.

regarding post #90 ref photos:
Pic #1 Only 1 honeycomb matches ref images rest are made up
pic #2 Again, Only one 'correct' style honeycomb. The rest are made up.
Pic #3 Getting closer, the stars seem too 'squished', and the plus symbol pattern looks like it should have more rounded edges. The hollow squares are not all the same size. The other two do not match any ref photos.
Pic #4 All the honeycombs appear to be made up. None are 'Correct'
Pic #5 The circle honeycomb doesn't belong, and the checkerd one seems like the squares are too small
Pic #6 Same as #5
Pic #7 Only 1 correct honeycomb, rest are made up.

Lordy Lordy have mercy on me.

Kwally, take a GOOD look at Toby's (sithcamaro) shirt. Yes, the pattern is off, but the colors are absolutely correct. It even appears to have that light bluish cast as do the other reference pictures. Take a look at the scan from the sticker book i posted...

It is navy.... and white. It is your eyes playing tricks on you to make you think it is blue. I would equate it to that old illusion where you stare at a black dot with a red circle around it for a minute. After the minute, you look at a blank white piece of paper and you see a green ring. Similar idea here, your eyes blend the navy and white to get a light blue. I don't know what to think about the type of fabric, i'd say study to picture I posted before of his collar.

Look at the HUGE difference between the colors of the shirt and the coat. We KNOW his face is white, and even THAT has a lavender/blue tint to it in this photo. Come on now, boys (and girls)

WGoble, just wondering if you have confirmation from Sithcamaro himself that it is one a pure white fabric...I'm starting to think that the base is white, but it is a hard subject...this fabric order is going to be HUGE!!! I mean huge!!! I can't get a sample done up without wasting a lot of valuable time and money. If we can't come to an agreement, I'll ask for a sample for comparison, but it will set production back weeks.

Here is the pattern in navy and white and a sided by side shot of the one from post 119 and the navy and white. Hope this helps.
You know, I'm not even going for a costume. I'm way too heavy to pull this one off and I refuse to shave. I just really like the pattern and want a shirt like this to wear with my suits. :D

I'll tell you what I'll do...

If any of you frequent the Hype (SHH) forum, then you know that pretty much every night it goes down and you get the "Database Error" message for about 2-3 hours. Anyway, point is that I am getting that message now.

There is a photo on the board of Toby's fabric before he started tailoring the shirt. The edge of the fabric has no print and it is just white. I'm not going to bet the farm on this, so if I post this photo and I'm wrong, I will openly admit it and say 'thank you for correcting me!', but right now, I'm pretty positive it is white............

So I was almost done with the post, and now the Hype board is working...
Here is what he said about the picture...

"...For some reason, the light blue colored shirts designs did not come out the color I had them. But I think they do look better on the white backing..."

I win.

Nah, anyway, here is some of what the other guys on the board said about the fabric.

yea youre right the white does look better but both are very cool looking though - jayff2005

I like the first(top) color/fabric best, looks more like the real one. -White_Knight191

Toby, my vote is for the white print.- BRIN

There you have it. Does this satisfy any and all queries on the subject?

As for the pattern, the only last issue is there are no polka dotted hexagons. That is, none of the hex cells are just evenly placed solid white circular dots... check the art book picture I posted and also the picture of the Joker's shoulder.

Sorry, I see the patterns have been fixed... awesome. They are getting really close!
