    Jawa robe material

Hey guys. I want to make a jawa as a present for my girlfriend. I have located the bandoleers, and I know what to do for the eyes and what not. I think the only thing left to plan out is the robe. Does anyone know the real material they used or a good alternative? If you have links to any material you suggest, that would be greatly appreciated. By the way, I have no problem dying the cloth, so that opens up some options. Also, I need templates so I know what shapes to cut and stuff. And do they wear a certain kind of shoes? Thanks.

Try a dark brown shade of burlap. Buzzix is right, you want that "worn out, walking in the desert all day, beat up potato sack" look. I'm no expert on Jawas, but I believe that burlap would be a good, and fairly accurate option.

as far a shoes, i don't think you ever get a good look at thier feet in the movies, so anything dark and discreet would probably work.
    Best of luck.

I was offered some Ralph Lauren Blanket from a member here on the boards. The same material used on the real things. I might take his offer of fifty bucks.

I just got my material for my son's Jawa costume. I went to Joann Fabric and got Monk's Cloth. They have it in a natural color. Get Dark Brown RIT Fabric Dye (also at Joann's). They dye is around $3 and the material is $9.99 per yard. Also, for the most PERFECT mask with the glowing eyes ever, check out this website, http://www.td8733.com/Tutorial.html. Im working on the mask now as well. I also ordered one of the resin blaster kits from http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/showt...t=jawa+blaster. The boots, I got some rubber rain boots from Wal Mart and covered them with duck tape, making sure to wrinkle it as I placed it on the boots. I then painted them with 3 different shades of brown spray paint and a VERY light spraying of black. They look awesome! Im working on a website to detail my progress step by step. Should be up within the next month. I'll post a link here when I get it up.

As a member of the RPF I can state, without a doubt, the monkscloth was NOT used on the Jawa robes. Whatever the material was it is not generally available in fabric stores. For years fans have been using The Ralph Lauren Estate blanket as a substitute . It is made from the correct material and has the correct weave. You can find them FS from time to time on Ebay and costuming boards.

Thanks for all the advice, guys. The pics that yodakiller sent me of the ralph lauren blanket does make it look rly good. As I am a sucker for screen accuracy, I might go with it. I will look into the monks cloth to compare, as the cheap price sounds like a good substitute for my tight budget.

Replica prop forum. Like TDH, but more than just boba/jango stuff. However, they're real stingy about members. In fact, there are only four times out of the year you can register for membership. They span across fifteen days. The next one is april 15-30th.

The Ralph Lauren blanket is the closet you can get to the real thing. Monk's cloth isn't even close. Nor is burlap.

Another alternative is that you can do what I did for my daughter's costume. You can just look for a good quality, Egyptian cotton, herringbone weave blanket. Buy it in white and dye it using brown and orange RIT dye.

    What is RIT dye?

    Re: Jawa robe material

Go to a Joann Fabrics and they have a section that carries dyes. RIT is a brand name. They come in powder or liquid.

Actually, the Ralph Lauren fabric is not correct either. It looks similar at first glance but in reality they are very different.
I agree, it is a close enough fabric, but wanted to make sure people knew that it wasn't THE EXACT type of fabric.
I've been looking for the jawa/tusken raider fabric for years and have come up dry.

Thanks for that tidbit of info. But if it's the best option, then it's the best option.

That is true, but it is not screen accurate.
And that was my whole point.
