iron man helmet LED's

Iron Man

New Hunter
Quick question to all those making iron man helmets.

I figured I am just going to buy a unpainted helmet and put LED eyes in my self. One problem I have no idea how to construct LED eyes that I can see through. Any ideas anyone? All help is appreciated.

Eventually I will try to figure out the whole motorized helmet thing myself but Eyes first.

There is a thread on the replica prop forum, someone built two small boxes, lined them with tin foil inserted the leds in each box and cover the eye portion with plastc tub icecream container plastic, look for the smokey colored plastic. Thats it in a nutshell

I'm using a reflected light technique on my war machine build with two way mirror tinted plexiglass positioned at a 45 degree angle behind the eyes and a piece of "cut and shape" electroluminescent sheet that faces down. Since the light is above your eyes and reflected outward, the glare is minimal AND you get to use the eyes entire opening. Costs about $50.00 to build.

Also....
depending on the pep you use, i can make a blueprint for your helmet. hit me up with the model you're using.....\I.E...dung , nobody, pr custom....i just need the model to custom fit it.

That was me. Small boxes built from Foamies and hot glue. Lined it all with the tinfoil. The front smokey white part is off the side of a sherbet container. There's a single LED stuck through each Foamies box by the bridge of the nose. I put clear acrylic lenses in the helmet, and the boxes hang down from above. I look out the clear lenses underneath the lighted boxes. That's the same position of viewing the real movie suits had.

Cost me less than $5 to make, but a number of hours to figure out.

It looks like this:

Hey Timothy, here's a pic of one of the other helmets I finished this week. This one has the light strip we talked about. You can see in the pic I left a small gap under the strip that you can see thru. Good luck with yours. If you find a way to make them see thru let us know. Anyone interested in this kind of light contact e-lite at 203-371-2070 and talk to Mike Jacovino ext 17. He'll know what your asking for.

This effect is called pepper's ghost I believe. In case you need further explanation on the design principals.
