Full-Size, usable Speeder Bike
O.K. I have decided to tackle this one as it has been on my to-do list for QUITE some time. I am building a full-size,usable Speeder Bike. (doh!!! :P)
Anyway, probably going to do a Frankensteining of sorts, kind of like Pepakura (kind of) for parts, with some metal-work, some fiberglassed cardboard, some scratchbuilding, and the complete demolishing of an old Yamaha dirt bike.
I will start work soon, but I have a request, can any one put up some REALLY good reference pics???
I hope to have this, my Fett, and a biker scout costume done by SDCC next year, as I will entering the masquerade.:fettpre

Re: Full-Size, usable Speeder Bike
I have a 3d model I made based off of Lucas Arts reference a couple years ago if you want me to look for it.
-
Re: Full-Size, usable Speeder Bike
My suggestion for pics would be to scour the net, there should be tons of pics, like screen grabs, model kits, toys. I was thinking about the possibility of building a speeder bike and then adapting it to a hoveround, scooter type of chair for parades and such, but a dirtbike !! Sweet !!
Good luck !

Re: Full-Size, usable Speeder Bike
I suggest buying one of the Sideshow models with the Biker Scout and Bike. Should have lots of detail to them as they're fairly large.
Looking forward to this.

Re: Full-Size, usable Speeder Bike
Unfortunately, I'm close to broke, I've got like $3.50, so, not to much to go with, but, It'll work. :)

Re: Full-Size, usable Speeder Bike
Oh and what do you mean by usable? :doh
Cant wait for some progress :thumbsup

Re: Full-Size, usable Speeder Bike
Usable, as in, can move, can steer, can speed up to 300 k.p.h., nah, just kidding on that last part. It will be made to be able to be remote controlled. I have an idea for the skit I will be doing. I need to get it finished, I want to enter the youth category at masquerade at SDCC '10

I have a small model maybe a foot long. It's somewhat poorly constructed (oops) but pretty detailed, I'll subscribe to the thread so just post if there's anything you want pics of.

Re: Full-Size, usable Speeder Bike
Hello, I can give you the mail of the maker of this 1:1 speeder bike
http://www.expouniversostarwars.com/ (click on the link, then play the video that is on the bottom and select 8:23 minute and above)
I'm not really sure if he speaks English... but if you cannot speak Spanish you can use me as a translator ;)
Good luck with this project!

Re: Full-Size, usable Speeder Bike
What I am doing is making it as a miniature using them templates, then measuring it and building it fullsize out of posterboard, then I will fiberglass it, add the greeblies, then hitch it to something motorized. :D
The dirtbike deal fell through.

Re: Full-Size, usable Speeder Bike
dude, just get a beater moped and rip it apart, the good thing... no gear shifting, just warp speed (0-25 in like 5... minutes)

Re: Full-Size, usable Speeder Bike
Thank you Very much.......school has caught up with me, so unless i can find a large format printer that oesn't charge 10K for 11 pages, or someway to blow up the templates, but keep them on a letter sized piece of paper, then i am sunk for a bit........

I had to print out some big/scale blueprints for an old project a while back and ran into the same problem for scale prints it can get VERY expensive (especially if you want the blueprints actually blue with white lines) I ended up just printing it with a normal printer on multiple pieces of paper and taping them together with wide masking tape on the back, did the job perfectly and that way I wasn't bothered about folding it up or getting paint and glue on it etc hope that helps?

Re: Full-Size, usable Speeder Bike
http://www.blockposters.com/ may be of some help for poster printing, it's free and it's all done on the web. I've found it useful a few times.
