El sheet

I have a two questions about EL sheets. I already know people make sabers out of it and I have seen one helmet that had some on the edges of the visor. My questions have more to do with the visor then any thing else. I am thinking about using it in my visor. So here are my questions.

1. Can you see threw EL sheet and if so how hard is it to see through? (both lit and unlit)

2. Is the light emission weaker on one side then on the other?

I hate to answer questions when I really don't know for sure what I'm talking about. And I'm not sure about EL Sheet. I am sure about EL wire though.

It's a wire. Kinda thick. Kinda flexible. You can't really see through it. It lights up. People (RC's) use it around their visor.

EL Sheet.. You are talking about lighting up the whole visor though right? Not just a line pattern behind it?

Don't think you can see through EL Sheet. But I'm not 100% sure.

Ok well I may have misunderstood the things I had read, it may just be the wire. But thanks for the help, that actualy answers my questions.

Anyone know how to lite up the whole visor?

If you use EL sheet to light up your entire visor area, you won't be able to see thru it. It's opaque.
It's basically a very thin material that emits light when an electrical charge is passed thru it. Have you ever seen those little blue or green flat-faced night lights? Those use EL sheet.
Another thing to consider is space. Even though the sheet itself is very thin and flexible, it needs its own power supply, which you buy with a lighting kit, and the power supply is pretty bulky. Not sure if they come in different sizes small enough to put into a helmet.

Well I am going to have alot of space in my helmet. But seing as I cant see though it when its light it won't do me much good. :( Makes me kind of sad, I really wanted a glowing visor. Oh well to plan two it is.

you can make the visor glow... rather than put it behind the entire visor... what you do is take EL wire instead of the sheets.. (or even LEDs... I can tell you how for those too)
and run the wire along the edge of the buckt's visor... if you put it between the visor and the bucket, it will look like its glowing as you have seen in costumes... and in the game...

keep in mind also that there are some very small battery packs/inverters you can use...
but LEDs are usually brighter, and smaller space, but require a little more work
