EE-3 scope mount in metal for HS and all accurate webleys

Okay, I wanted to seperate discussion of the scope mounts from my bronze webley thread. As I understand the rings to scope are a problem for some people in that they are weak. I find it hard to think that small points of contact can be anything but weak.

I did build up a finihsed EE-3 at one point until it was used for producing another prop in which is was taken apart... I never put it back together. But pictured is the parts I have. I can not see the rings themselves ever being 'cast' in anything. They are supposed to be thin and should be fabricated and possible married to the scope mount (also where the molex connectors are attached). What I propose is to creat a cast metal "junction" between the scope, molex and rings. This junction would include the correct details inside. This junction could be welded onto fabricated rings so that they would be very strong. The scope, scope rails and molex connectors are found parts and therefor could be attached by the builder. Does any of this make sense?... discuss...

I think that Stormrider has the most accurate barrels rings so far including the small blocks that the scope rings (provided be the owner) themselves mount on and that is the direction that we should head in for the accessories.

Sounds good to me - in this case I'm setting asidemy ego and hoping to get help where I can. SO I'm hoping one of two things may happen.
1. Stormrider chimes in and allows us to use his design with proper affection and credit due to him
2. I take a good look at all the evidence and hopefully come up with similar conclusions that everybody is happy with.

so I got a bit caught up on posts and decided that perhaps it is best if I tackle the mounting system myself. Hopefully I can come up with somehting that works well. I have not been on the boards for some time and wish Stormrider good will.

I have to agree that if a collaboration with Stormrider was possible it would be excellent to have some of those parts cast in metal as so much of the research work has been transformed into parts by him. There were many research threads on TDH where the shape of those mounting rings SR made were debated so I would think an original approach with the same level of scrutiny would work too but it would be tough, who knows though, parts could be improved.

Love my Hand-Schaub Webley, thanks for making it!

Thanks for undertaking this project. I too am impressed by the quality craftsmanship with which you made my cast bronze Webley. I am willing to assist in any way possible. I also agree that the actual scope/barrel brackets were much thinner than most of the resin versions out there. It also appears that the rear bracket is split at the center bottom and held tight by a nut-bolt combination. The forward bracket appears to be solid with two threaded set screws (no heads with and Allen keyhole in the end) offset at the bottom at approximately 20-30 degrees. These set screws seem to "grip" the flashtube. Thoughts?

We know the diameter of the flashtubes and the forward bracket is always in the same place (flush against the muzzle of the Webley barrel). It therefore makes sense that the "ring" portion of this forward bracket would be closed (the diameter of the flash tube is fixed) with the two angled set screws needed only to lock the flashtube in place. Because the rear bracket slides over the tapered barrel of the Webley nearer the breech, a split at the bottom of the bracket ring is logical. For folks with out access to the exact vintage scope, this design has the added benefit that ensure it's placement can vary depending on the length of the scope.

That's exactly how I'm using my Allen set screws on my stormrider resin kit. Although since the forward ring is slightly tighter than the OD of the flash tube I had to sand the ID of the ring a bit, and now it's super tight.

But if it wasn't, if the forward ring was metal and ID was slightly (like 2/32" or so) bigger than the OD of the flash tube, having set screws like that would make perfect sense, and give a good secure fit for the flashtube.

great input here. Years back I was a definate player in the rounds of discussion on the clamps. There is a lot I remember from those discussions. Now it seems there have been more things agreed upon. As of now I'm still processing information before I start to build anything up.

Keep it coming and I bet we can have a metal option for this part very soon.

The only input I have at this point is I would be very interested in purchasing a set of metal rings to go with the Webley on order with you, HS. Just wish I had something more substantial to add to the discussion. Too new to the Fett world.

Hand-Schaub,

As I'm eagerly awaiting the next batch of bronze webley's to be finished, I'm wondering if you've had any further progress on this project. If you come up with something, I'd love to purchase a set. Right now, I've got resin greeblies and rings that I'd love to upgrade.
