Never used it but that little guy can give out 40psi out and it's quiet you have a pretty good gem there if you want to carry it around.

I bought one from Walmart. Just your standard air compressor. Though it is a bit noisy, I can also use it to run my nail gun, air up tires etc. And I paid the same price as that one.

I have a mini airbrush compressor that looks to be heavy duty & I have to agree with Pavespawn, you're better off buying a regular compressor. A larger compressor will deliver a steady air pressure without the pulsing that is common with inexpensive airbrush comressors. You can also outfit it with a water trap.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll stop by some local retailers and see what's available. I suppose it would be nice to have a compressor I can use for more than just airbrushing. Just gotta make sure it fit's into the little lady's gift budget

Walmart has one for $99.99 right now. At least here they do. They also had one for like $70 with a smaller tank. (Get the biggest tank you can afford, trust me.)

I have that same compressor and its ****. once you start to draw air from it, you probably end up with a psi of around 15. I now use my regular air compressor, like everyone will say it will give you the steady controlled air pressure you need.

I used to use canned air. In fact most of my armor was painted with a walmart cheapo dual action and canned air. That being said, I will NEVER use canned air again. A good compressor is SOOOOOO worth it.

This is what I have, it's quiet, and works really well.

I even use it for teaching my Maskmaking classes:

That looks pretty nice Propsculptor. Do you have any problems with the air 'pulsing'?

I bought that Testors little blue air compressor. It works great for me. I dont find that I need more power or flexability then it offers and its quiet. I may upgrade someday but its a big step up from the cans of compressed air, plus I got it using a Hobby Lobby cupon so it was 40% off. It gives good steady air flow for painting helmets and armor and that is all I use it for. I think its a good starter if you can find it on sale. But for the same price you can get a better one if its not discounted.

Re: Is this a decent starter airbrush compressor?

Hi everyone, new guy here with a question. I'll be getting a Don Post 95 helmet and a Rubies Jango soon and just wanted to know about air compressors. I have never done any airbrush painting before so this is all completely new to me. I do have a mini 12V compressor 250PSI that supposedly ideal for roaside emergencies and tire pressure maintenance. Also has an adaptor "for inflating bycycle tires and soccer balls...etc". Can I use this thing for airbrushing or is it better to get one that specifically is for that activity?
