my take on airbrushes...
dual action is a must. this allows you to regulate the air release and volume of paint separately with 1 button, giving you finer control.
i prefer paasche vl and iwata eclipse, but also have a badger anthem that has served me well for years.
i like siphon feed better than gravity... lets you load up more paint at a time with the little glass jars.
for compressors, it depends on whether you want quiet or cheap. i prefer the big monsters from home depot. even though i may only work with 35 - 40 psi, the compressor can easily do 100+, and has a big air tank. it's loud, but 1/2 the price of a small, quiet, tankless one (the tank means it can come on, fill up, then shut off for a couple of minutes).
i get around the noise with a 50' hose. the compressor is far, far away from where i paint. just make sure you have a pressure regulator (i've never seen one that doesn't), and pick up a moisture trap. if you get water in your air line, your brush will splatter and make a mess.
