    big baby

I finally got this project off the ground. It took me forever to find stuff at the hardware stores that were proportioned correctly. The barrels and outer ring are slightly larger relative to the stock than the concept drawings suggest, but not by much. I had to find a happy medium on the over all size. However, ive stayed closely to what the drawings and sideshow have done. The outer barrels are 2.5" pvc. The inner barrels will be 1.75". This conviently is also the diameter of firework motar launching tubes.
The bottle in the last picture is for size reference. The side show replica weighs in at 42lbs. This one will round out about 15 lbs. It still has a ton of work to be done. I started to shape the stock out, but got sidetracked and put it together for giggles.

Got the stock carved out. The inner barrels have been added and bondoed as well.

I'm a Hellboy fan myself. Heres a link to my costume and my instructable to my Right Hand of Doom:

Great job on the gun. I was also planning on doing a prop, just not one as accurate as yours. Looking forward to the finished product.

I got the back part of the barrel shaped out. I was going to make it out of wood, but I wanted to keep the weight down. I made this section out of cardboard, the green flower foam, and bondo. It still needs a lot of touch up and shaping, but its getting there.

    Re: big baby

I took a step backwards over the weekend and remade the cap piece. The first on was cardboard and green foam covered in bondo. AS you can see it breaks pretty easily. The gun is going to weigh about 15 lbs when its all said and done, and I can see this thing being dropped at least once. So I made a new one out of wood. I think all I have left at this point is to put on the finishing touches, bondo then paint.

    Re: big baby

Hey Samuel, Great work so far! Love seeing another HB fan on here.

Yeah, 15 lbs sounds about right! That's about what mine weighs that I finished up for Dragon Con last year! All hard woods with some aluminum sprinkled in for good measure seems like the way to go! But man, carrying around that extra 15"+" lbs. really cuts down on the length of time that I'm able to troop, I mean really, I was able to go for like 6 hrs before, now if I can the "Big Baby" around, it's like 3 or 4 hrs, it's like doing non stop isometrics!

Don't mean to hi-jake your thread, but I thought I'd post some pics to help provide some motivation for you in order to see it through to the end, it's quite a substantial project! Good Luck brother and can't wait to see the finished "New Born"!

If I might ask where is everyone getting their reference images for these projects? I am just amazed at what you all are accomplishing. I would love to build one of these just as a prop to have.

    Re: big baby

I used a combo of images. The first one I redrew to get a plan. I also used several images from sideshow. My gun will be a mix between the concept and screen used.

if you want, i can send you and eps or illustrator file of what i redrew. Mine, im thinking is a little big. However, It works perfect for me becaus of what its going to be used for. You can always scale the file down. I used side show's basic measurements for size. My thinking was that they had access to the screen used one. The gun is huge compared to me, but then again Im not 6'5" and the son of a ancient god of destruction.

Ok i did a quick paint job so I could test fire this bad boy. I'll go back laer and add the missing detail. I had just been in the pool before we shot this so please don't think I spend my free time running around shirtless.
