Apr 3, 2017, 2:54 PM - Interested in Giant Glowy Han in Carbonite/R2D2 stand? Death Star hallway panel style #1

A lot of people have mentioned this to me over the last few years, and I really want to get something together that'll make people happy, and give their awesome props a great home.

I'm hoping to offer these as kits, a one-stop shop to grab everything you'd need to build a light up display stand. It'll include custom routed pieces of wood (like my Han in Carbonite box kit) LED strip tape that'll glow at the push of a button, and a clear backing to diffuse the light, probably frosted acrylic or something similar.

More pics and discussion in the Build Thread on the rpf

    These will light up!

I'm not sure on pricing yet, but they'll be around $200 or so if you're forcing me to guess, including the routed wood, light diffusing backing material, simple pre-wired LEDs, a/c plug, and remote control.

You can follow along on the building and development of one of these stands over here at the build thread:

If these were offered at $200, who would be in?

I think I might be interested. How durable will the metal painted finish be on the wood? Would it mess it up if someone stood on there? I was thinking about having some sort of stand for a Halloween presentation.

Think that depends on shipping really.

    Hi,
I'm not sure if I'm being clear. I'm planning on offering these as kits, so it'd be up to you to do the assembly and paint and finish it. The surface finish really is up to you and the paints you choose. I'd imagine it'd be pretty good but I haven't tested painted surfaces for long term use. You can make the acrylic on the back removable, just screwed in place. That way you can unscrew the plastic to repaint without overspraying onto the white acrylic if/when you need to touch it up.

The kits will be designed to be shipped cheaply, all flat pack. If you're overseas, I'd look in to having it made there, like I do with my HiC box kits.

Well this is very cool and while I could make the cuts myself, your CNC cutter will work a lot better than the circular saw, hack saw, and Dremel I would need to use to make this work. So yeah, I think I would be in.

awesome! There's been some rpf chatter on making the details more carbonite freezing chamber, and less death star hallway. Whacha think of that idea? i could probably make mutliple options.

I'd have to see it. I was thinking more Jabba the Hutt palace, but an ESB theme makes more sense as I am an ESB guy. What is pictured right here is pretty cool, and I think it would be great to put some frozen ice under it.

This is pretty epic, but i agree the shipping is where its really gonna matter. Maybe sell the plans to make it on your own and just offer the acrylic and lights?

I don't think the shipping is going to cost much. I did some quoting and you'll be happily surprised there. The acrylic and lights are the easy part, honestly. The inside oval cutouts are not to easy to make and really what sells the project. I'll certainly offer the acrylic and lights separately if you want but It'll be better to get everything at once.
