    **** INTEREST THREAD FOR RC-REMOTE RANGEFINDER ****

    Hi brothers & sisters,

salamanderking and me would like to offer full rc-remote sets to control your stalks/RFs from the Gauntlets.

    rc_remote_03.jpgrc_remote_01.jpgrc_remote_02.jpg

    Pictures show
    1) The complete set
    2) The Gauntlet Remote part with two switches (On/Off & up/down) and the connector for the 9V battery
    3) The Helmet Remote part with additional servo and housing for 4 AA batteries with small on/off-switch

    Description
We can offer 3 different sets:

Set 1) Complete Set without any servo, so you can choose your own $75 + shipping*

set 2) Complete Set with normal Servo (aprox. 35mm in height) $90 + shipping*
for those who have enough space inside the helmet

set 3) Complete Set with Low profile Servo (aprox. 22mm in height) $105 + shipping*
for those who have a bigger melon or even a smaller helmet

    * shipping depends on your location, but we try to provide you with the best shipping quote possible! WeŽre located in germany but the parts arenŽt big so it shouldnŽt be too much at all.

The prices differ because of the parts needed. Those Low Profile Servos are more expensive than the average ones.

HINT: Please check how much place you have left inside the helmet on the right side of your face because there needs to be good room for the servo. If you are not sure I would consider to take the set without th eservo so you can handle it yourself.

This thread is to check the overall interest.
The time to produce these sets isnŽt much, so we could provide you as fast as possible.
We take rc parts from small mini-rc-cars and we have to buy them before we can build a set so it is depending on delivery of those mini cars too. Please keep this in mind.

These are full operational rc-remotes for all of you that donŽt have the knowledge to build them on yourself.
Some work is still left, because you have to connect the servo to the stalk (there are some threads on how to do this here on TDH!) and you need to insert all into your helmet!

The sets are ready to work, just need the batteries turn the swithes and off you go!

Sorry that we canŽt provide you with any first class servo-to-stalk-connection because every helmet maker has different ways to connect the stalks to the helmet.

If youŽre interested, please answer to this thread I will open up an interest-list on this first post, so we can check.

Measurements will follow, for those of you who need them.

For questions or additional info please answer this thread, maybe there are more of you who need those infos too. IŽll answer them as fast as possible.

    Thanks!

    Manuel

Manuel, i'd be interested in set no. 3 buddy...

A question, could the PCBs be housed in somesort of plastic boxes to protect them from damage?

Also, are you able to make the LED RF kits, otherwise i'll order from hyperdyne?

    Hi Shiv,

IŽll have to check if there are some nice plastic boxes (flat) to store those electronics into. Maybe there is a way to use some sort of heat shrinking tubes that could cover it.

IŽll see what I can do. :-)

We have LED RF kits too. I post some pictures tonight. Up to now weŽre looking for some smaller battery parts to be able to better store them inside the RF.

    Thanks so far bro!

Re: **** INTEREST THREAD FOR RC-REMOTE RANGEFINDER ****

Please put me down for one Manuel, like Shiv, set 3 sounds like the best option.

I assume the 25 or 35 mm dimension will be the space required between the side of your head and the inside of the helmet behind the ear. I am also assuming that the servo will have a spindle that passes through the centre of the stalk?

    Hi Bobby!

Here is a picture of the low profile servo. And yes, the space is meant to be the one between the head and the inside of the helmet behind the ears.

generally the servos are sold as shown here on this picture:

This servo is 23mm in height.

As the stalks are all different there is the need of the helmet owner to find an appropriate way to connect it bro!

here you can see one way to do so: http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/showt...t=remote+servo

    Hope that helps you bro!

    Cheers,

Re: **** INTEREST THREAD FOR RC-REMOTE RANGEFINDER ****

OK, thanks for that. I will get something machined in the shop to fix the ali stalk to the servo most likely, nice and neat

Deffo want the shorter one, for the money it works for me.

It is about time someone made these available in this way, well done.

I am a little concerned that the RC unit will not fit too well inside the FP gauntlets I have, but I will come up with something if they don't. I just remember the toggle switches were pretty tight to get in, without the wires attached. I will dig them out and have another look. Manuel, if there were anyway the board for the gaunts could fit inside the flame thrower (ROTJ style) it would be even better, just a thought.

Bobby, for the gauntlet fit ... we will look for a good way to achieve this. I guess the ROTJ gauntlets will be way better to hide the electronics. I bet we find a way to solve both versions, as I am personally the ESB guy! :-)

Maybe we take other switches for that ... we keep an eye out for that!

thanks for the hints anyway bobby!

Another suggestion bro, on the switches I see you have used hot glue to attach the wires. Is there also a way you could use the following types of crimp connectors on both the switches and wires so that in case we want to use our own switches. Also any wires which are butted together use shrink wrap to tighten the joins or a crimp butt connector

p.s I'm ESB like you bro...

The wires are soldered to the switch. The hot glue is just for protection. if you like to use own switches, you can just cut it behind the hot glue and re-solder them to the new ones.
We need to make the connections as small as possible to save space for placing it in the gaunts and helmet.

I will check out if we could do some sort of crimp connectors between the wiring if desired.

Soldering will be the more space saving method I guess ...

    Hiya guys!

Great idea here! Looks like you have an excellent product!
I have a quick question... have you rigged the controller up so that it only turns the servo 90 degrees?
Also, what is the frequency that the RC runs on? (Our squad has a fella with a 27hz RC already, and I was wondering if this one would conflict with his)

    Thanks!

Re: **** INTEREST THREAD FOR RC-REMOTE RANGEFINDER ****

Hey thanks stellardude! I appriciate it! WeŽre currently working on the 90° rigging, until now the stalk isnŽt able to move more than those 90° and the switch has 3 steps: up to move the stalk up, middle to stop the process and down to lower the stalk. So if the stalk has reached the end (and he canŽt go further) you just put the switch back to the midle position. But I talked about the rigging with salamanderking and we will come up with some solution for sure. IŽll let salamanderking check for the frequency and get back to you to give you proper information, ok?

thanks for the good words bro!

Re: **** INTEREST THREAD FOR RC-REMOTE RANGEFINDER ****

    Hello Brother !

Interested in "Set 3", ROTJ. Sounds like this would be a nice addition to my new FettPride helmet when it arrives.

But, I want to watch and see how you address / control the 90° movement. I see that you are using RC car parts. If using a three position toggle and manually stopping the stalk at the top and bottom, will that damage the servo? Also, it doesn't seem to me that a push button (momentary) switch will work unless there is a limiter somewhere and something to tell the servo that it is time to go the other way the next time the button is pushed.

Anyway, I am very interested and will be watching this thread closely for updates. Keep up the good work.

    Cheers!!!

    I concur with BooBoo!

I'll be watching the thread too, to see how the 90 degrees is addressed (it will, indeed, damage the gear inside the servo, if it is allowed to go to the end of the movement without being told to stop)

I'm interested, for sure, if that's incorporated into the final design!

Good job, again! This is something that was very much needed.

Does the up/down movement go something like the one in this video. By that, I mean does it go about the same speed? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hiCzqdxJbRQ&NR=1

Just a quick question... when you guys sa set 3 ROTJ ,dose you mean buttons for the flame thrower or is it some diffrent on the right gauntlets ESB to ROTJ???

Any video yet ? and 90 degrees would hardly make a big change

Re: **** INTEREST THREAD FOR RC-REMOTE RANGEFINDER ****

The ESB has just two switches on the right gauntlet. The ROTJ has those two switches on the right gauntlet too but there are two push buttons on the flamethrower and some guys want to have the electonics in the flamethrower and use those push buttons.

    thatŽs the only difference. :-)

At the moment weŽre workign on some solution for the 90° modification. Normally servos are made to resist any barriers and there shouldnŽt be any problem with them when they reach the end position to stop. But weŽll fix that. if that is done weŽll make a short video to show it.

    best,

Re: **** INTEREST THREAD FOR RC-REMOTE RANGEFINDER ****

    Yes bro. :-)

We can set the servos to 90° Movement by technical barrier. ThatŽs whats used inside the servos. Servos are built to keep power against any pressure, so it wonŽt get any harm when using this barrier. Motors are different: They just turn and when stopped by barrier they would run hot. Servos not. They are build to resist those pressures.

We just have to open the servos and turn the "normal build in" barrier (270°) and they use the Rest barrier of 90°. The stalk canŽt move any more than those 90°.

IŽll try to make a video to show the movement ... hope to get it done tonight.

For the RF LED Kit we have to check out if we can go smaller as it is now. Because I got two of the FP premium last days and I checked the RF topper ... there isnŽt much place inside of it so we need to get very small ...

And there will be the question what stalk do you use? The hollow or not. I guess weŽll open up a new thread for the LED kit once we are satisfied with the size of it! :-)

Just a quick note to the electronics safety:

We will offer the sets with shrink tubing. So they will be safe against sweat and other moisture, e.g. inside the helmet by breathing. You can put them into the gaunts and helmet without any need to extra protect them.

Sorry, I didnŽt get the video done by now, but IŽll go for it soon, promised!

Sorry for the lack of updates last days, but I Žve been busy (current paintjob ESB Premium too) and today was my first outdoor troop as Boba (yay!) , so there has been very limited time for this project. But itŽs rolling again now and I will definately use this week to make a viseo of the servo-movement. After that (I guess to the end of this week) I will update post #1 and see who definately will be in for payment. IŽll open up the paypal payment then. Salamanderking is working on the sets already. :-)

WeŽll definately keep you updated brothers!

Hi Manuel, would like it on the left gauntlet as it makes sense, having the extra space in the flame thrower housing (ROTJ) however, pushing and holding the button is not ideal. Does the system require 2 switches? I am thinking the other, single toggle switch on the left gaunt could be used, up and down as switched? Is this possible?

    Cheers, Rob.

This should work if you use a double pole, double throw switch. See image below:

Nice pic Novall Talon! How did you put that kind of pic on here? I been wanting to put circuit diagram pics up like that on here and other boards.

Bobby Fett UK - Rob, Are you talking about the circuit diagram? You thinking of adding a on/off switch also?

Re: **** INTEREST THREAD FOR RC-REMOTE RANGEFINDER ****

I built a system based on another thread here. The momentary switches work well. The only problem I have is that the servo I used, ( the recommended one in the thread ) is the small profile one, it doesn't have enough oomph to raise the stalk back up. I think it's because I have a solid stalk plus the weight of the LED package in the topper. I think I'll have to look for a stronger servo.

You guys have a sweet set up too, I may have to look into it if my plans don't work out !
