interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
Hello old and new members! It has been a while for this old timer but the foundry days are back for me. Although I dont officially work at a foundry I do deal with one and I can still grind the metal with the best of them. I am currently in a run of bronze Indy fertility idols which are coming out great! One item I always had a good time with is metal Webleys.
Yup, for those that don't know, I made a very realistic non-firing Webley. It was made in sevral parts (handle/reciever, ejector/ u-channel thing, barrel and stock). They were nearly identical to weight to a real Webley and functioned as such (trigger was solid though).
I am inclined to start a run of these now that I have a foundry that does decent work at a fair speed. As of now I do not have any pictures of these but if any old members/ customers wish to chime in then that would be appreciated.
Times have changed and the metal/labor prices have increased. I no longer have a wood worker so a stock needs to still be sourced. With that being said I do have a better way of treating the metal for a richer "black".
Interest is being generated as of now for a run of say 10 or so. With the amount of finish work required on these the price will be $550 plus shipping to wherever you are. A non refundable deposit of $200 will be required to hold your place and get the project started. The rifles will be "functional" as far as the barel opening and locking in place.
time line for this project is not short but within this year. With enough interest I can cast waxes and have them to the foundry, back and finished in several months.
This is the CLOSEST I have seen to the real deal...period. Please ask questions on this thread or e-mail to
schaub-art@hotmail.com

Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
No I don't tease. I'm ready to do these again. Molds are in good shape and the foundry is ready to do the work. This great piece comes at a premium but affordable price for those who know what this is.
-
Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
Yeah, I'd be interested in that.
What other parts would be included? Just the webley, or scope rings to?
-
Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
I used to own one of these... these are amazing works of art I believe. I think this is the closest you can come to the real thing.
This is what I recieved from a member when I first bought it:

With many vintage parts (scope, scope rings, Heiland flashtube, aerial plugs, molex connectors) I transformed it into this:

Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
Ugh...i would LOVE to have one of these. Dont think that kinda cash is in the cards though. However, i'll see what i can do...if i get a couple of final commissions this year, i may be able to swing it....i'll post again if i can make it work.
You wouldnt wanna trade a jetpack paintjob for one would ya? lol
-
Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
Same here, Im about to be moving across the country and WISH i could afford to not eat or something
-
Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
definitely interested. When you say within the year you are talking 2012 correct?
-
Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
As mentioned on the RPF - "NOW" is not the best moment for me, but in a few months .......
Itīs all depending on your timeline.
-
Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
Well... that's why it's an interst list. I really thought I would not do these again but schedules are allowing me to take on extra projects.
I think what I'll do is just straight up offer these as a continuous run for a few months or as long as my schedule allows me the extra time. So if you need time to scrape a deposit then this should allow it. However I do say this with the possibility that by next year I may not have the time anymore.
I will entertain partial trades (I would require the deposit at very least simply to give the foundry a deposit)

I do need Fett parts including the Jett pack. If the trade is right then would consider it.

My timeline is the next year. I am a school teacher working on a reduced contract so my days are a bit less hectic allowing me to have some extra time (and need for supplimental inclome)
-
Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
Well then ..... i think it would be no bad idea to ask you to put me on the interest list. ;)
As i assume thatīs still some time until you will start, and beeing this a "temporal continuous" (sounds somehow trekkie :) ), it should be doable to get it done.
Trades ...... hmmm, something like this (the one in front)
http://i527.photobucket.com/albums/c...nsoldt2014.jpg will probably not work, due to the deposit - as itīs more in the 500-600$ range.
Maybe something like this?

Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
Tempting... but right ow the water company is not accepting blasters as payment :) Actually I am looking for Fett items. I have the bulk of items but specifically I am looking for:
1. someone to sew the vest and suit with materials I have.
2.I'm also in need of a good Jetpack and all the nifty greeblies.
3.ESB guantlets I have decent vac shells but I need the greeblies
-
Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
Too bad. :cry
I canīt sew to save my live, have no jet-pack, and without having the plans/measurements for the gauntlet greeblies i canīt use my lathe and mill to make them for you.
Seems i need to collect the money the old way. :lol (But iīm glad you are not interested in the scope, as itīs even closer in itīs detail to the one on Solos ANH DL-44 as the middle one, which i have on my MGC. I planned to keep this for a real C96 build one day. Would have been hard to part with it. :D)

I dont make the actual jetpack (yet hehe) but i do the assembly/paint ups. ROTJ is $525, ESB is $375, just to give ya an idea. You can get the jetpack from Man of War and the greeblies from Dark-side and Mojo-fett :) ...assuming you end up buying them rather than trading for them.

this is one of my favorite props, and definitely the next best thing to a real one! in some ways better, since the fixed trigger really drives home the "this is not really a weapon" point!

interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
Folks, I have one of these bronze EE3s and the craftsmanship is second to none. The weight is realistic, and not far off from my Hyperfirm one. I did not know that I could open the breech on my Hand-Schaub bronze EE3. How do I do this? I would like to add lights and sound.
-
interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
Would you also consider offering one with a pre-chopped barrel for easy conversion to ROTJ?
Also, the community could really use accurate scope mounting brackets cast from bronze or aluminum. That seems to be the weak point on the three quality EE3s that I own (Hand-Schaub, Hyperfirm, and Stormrider).
-
Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
Pre-choped barrel would be great. I am going ROTJ too.
-
Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
If pre-choped is what you guys want the that is what you cn get! It's basically the excact same thing just I would cut the wax saving a bit of bronze. mechanics etc. would be the same.
Mounting rings would be fine but have we nailed down the most accurate version of this? I would need some help either making one or having someone supply something that I could use. I made one but I basically fabricated it from the ground up. I think Hyperfirm used it to base thier design off of. Can someone post a picture of thier "accurate" ring setup?
-
interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
Guys, this is a great opportunity. I am out of town and do I cannot send pics. Could Stormrider weigh in? The ones on my complete Hand-Schaub bronze EE3 look the most accurate from movie stills, but they are also the most delicate and are resin. I'll try to figure out who made them and see if we can get their agreement to make an aluminum or bronze variant through our friend H-S. otherwise...I'm up to collaborate on a totally new set based solely from the few canon blurry photos we have.
-
Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
Definatly NOT interested in a chopped up version.
Btw. the scopeblocks can easily be machined from a piece of alu, just decide and cut the wanted size and then use a dovetail endmill for the grooves. Itīs much faster and cheaper to mill them in bulks, than to make a master and cast them.
http://i527.photobucket.com/albums/c...basee-3010.jpg
http://i527.photobucket.com/albums/c...basee-3008.jpg
I made mine a little bit higher due to using a different version of the webley deac flaregun (later model), but other than that itīs the same work.
-
Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
For the ESB barrel rings, I think Stormrider has the most accurate ones. Maybe he would give permission to cast his in bronze? I would not mind paying a percentage extra for his cut.
-
Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
I think you bought the Hand-Shaub I used to own a few months ago... those are real vintage metal rings on that. I just painted and weathered them to match the blaster.

interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
To clarify, the part I would like to see cast or machined in aluminum would be the two scope mounting brackets which contact the flashtube (front bracket with two hex head set screws) and the rear of the Webley barrel (rear bracket clamped at the bottom with a single bolt/nut). I think the proper scope rings (that clamp the scope body to the top of the mounting brackets) have been identified and there are a few good sources.

I have sent them there. I can ship it in parts too but I dont recall it being a problem. I know they are very strict about these things but I decalare it as bronze sculpture... which is the truth. I dont recall who bought it rom there but I hope I'm correct.
-
Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
I have an accurate asi scope with real scope rings if you need for casting let me know
-
interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
Yeah, I've got the correct scope rings too. What I'd really like would be the mounting brackets that encircle the flashtube and the barrel. On all of my ESB EE3s the brackets seem to be the weakest part.
-
Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
I think I'll start a new thread so we can discuss the potential scope mounts being made in metal. I do have a few ideas but I'll keep them seperate from a "for sale" thread.

Are we already sending deposits and is it to the same email as stated in the first post? It doesn't mention paypal so it's best to ask.

PM him to ask. That's what I did.
-
Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
oops - sorry. Paypal is at schaub-art@sbcglobal.net
For the most part when I get a deposit, I cast a wax. When I get a few waxes together and cleaned up then I take them to the foundry. At that point it takes the foundry 4-6 weeks to gate, pour and clean up the parts. It will take me additional time to make it "work" together. The whole process is lengthy and the point of the deposit is to make sure you the buyer is serious and to cover wax and foundry deposits.
-
Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
I'll get the deposit sent in a couple of days then. :)

great.
The foundry is running a bit slow with my previous order. I will be picking it up next Thursday or Friday. At that time I will be bringing the new orders up until now.
-
Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
Not to worry. Good things come to those who wait.
-
Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
So I just want to keep everybody in the loop that I will be going ot the foundry this week. I will be out of town this weekend so I wont have any new news for anybody until next week. I thank you all for your patience. As I said before this batch of castings will take some time as I am doing it completely in my free time and some days are harder than others to cast and clean waxes and make it to the foundry while they are open.

Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
Update!
For those who paid a deposit and are wondering where thier Webley is...they are officially in the foundry process. I cast all waxes and cleaned them. They should be gated and in investment withing the next two weeks. Hopefully they will be cast and cleaned in the next 4-6 weeks and final assembly, stock and patina in the next 7-8 weeks. The foundry has somewhat disapointed me in thier time managment so everything is taking a lot longer than I would like. But either way... they are where they need to be right now.
thanks!
-
Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
Sounds great! I'm not in a hurry, but it's nice to get updates. Just let me know when to send the remaining funds. :)
-
Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
I will... when it goes to the foundry I'm kind of at a stand still, they need to do thier work while I just wait and complain that they are not fast enough :)
- - - Updated - - -
ANother update for those of you who may be 'thinking' about getting one of these. I made a deal with a long time friend and foundry worker to do the majority of the clean up on the bronze. While I pride myself on doing a decent job on these in the past, I feel he is better suited to do the majority of the finishing work. He will be doing this work so the final produt will be cleaner. Just an added bonus for those who got on board early!

Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
Really wish I could justify spending on this...is it possible to get just a D bracket? I have a resin webly already, and have put ALOT of work into it. But Id LOVE to have a metal D bracket for it to strengthen it up. Please let me know if this is possible...I dont see why not. Thanks in advance for any info.

The D bracket, grip and hammer/ trigger assembly were all one piece... I could see some one screwing/ gluing the barrel on... oh, and you'd also have to glue this "u" shaped part (don't know what its called) on the back. It buts up against the barrel and over the trigger.
This could be a nice option if were made available!
-
Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
I think your talking about things with the wrong names... the D bracket does have half of the grip but the hammer nor is the trigger part of the D bracket. On the real parts theyre not 1 piece look at storm riders pics of his parts....http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f31/i...sidearm-42562/
-
Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
Judging by the picture in post #33 http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f31/i...92/#post583025 it looks like the D-bracket will not be a separate piece either way.
-
Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
OOOOOHHHHH i see what you mean now....See thats combing a few pieces into 1 which Id be interested non the less in the piece...Not sude if Mr Han Schwab would sell just that piece or not but Id be interested in that or JUST the D Bracket itself...if possible.

That's what I meant (I didn't clarify) ... I know the real D bracket is a separate piece. The HS blaster has the D bracket, grip and trigger/ guard cast into one piece. I wish I took a picture before I began working on the one I had... Still, its very possible to mount a resin barrel and the part that rests over the hammer to a bronze HS bracket/ grip/ trigger.
HS would't have to make a new mold. It would probably still cost alot but since there is no one making these at the moment it could be an option for that delicate part.
-
Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
HS can payments be done, as my money is going to quick to get my gear, and payments would be easier, as i only get paid fortnightly because i work with gov,I dont mind waitng for such a quality item.
cheers

Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
Hey all, Well, to answer a few questions, yes, yes and yes... Let's see - the bracket could be cast seperately. I would cast a full wax and just cut the wax bracket from the rest. This can be done for a grip as well. The only problem with that is it is not cast like a real one and some fitting or adjusting would be neccessary. The back (or inside) is not perfect or a stamped piece. You do not see it though.
Payments? - I'm flexible. As far as waiting for these, that is not a problem because these just take a long time to make. Driving to the foundry when I'm not working, the foundry itself taking along time and finihsing are all time consuming things. HAveing a job gets in the way as well. SO in short, if you want one of these or a part of one, it will take a long time.
PM and we'll talk about fair price for parts.
-
Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
if you can offer the bracket and grip, id be interested in those pieces as well, to make it more worth your while to make separate piece molds
-
Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
I will cast a new wax and cut out the appropriate parts so all can see what they will have to deal with. I do not own the donnor Webly so for now I can only work with the molds I have.
All PMs answered!

Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
Okay - so here are a few pictures of a cut casting. This was a handle section that did not cast well so please ignore the bubbles and bad spots as this will not be used (they are not finihsed as nicely as future castings would be). What I do want to show is that the back of the casting looks like slushed wax... because it is.
I'm more than happy to cut these sections and have them cast. I can high buff the grip section to be a nice gold too. The screw and ball to hold the parts to the frame would need to be made though. It the grip were to go on a resin gun then epxy would work fine and to attach the bracket a simple screw would do the trick. Either way the castings would include the 'decorative' hardware.
Oddly enough it still takes some time to cast the parts as well as cut them from the frame. This is one of the heaviest pieces of the gun so it will take about a pound or 2 of bronze. I'm a bit reluctant to give a price but if it were in the $150 range would that work?
-
Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
Wow, now I do really WANT that right there...gonna have to save up my pennies. I think $150 tops would be doable...for my trooping blaster its pretty much a must have. If thats the price because of the metal to be used so be it. I fully understand the price of metal. Come up with a price, and timeframe you need the $$ and Im in for that...the flashing is unseen you could cast it like that and Id be happy the strength of the bracket is the reason I want it. I think anyone with a plastic blaster with wood stock is gonna want this REALLY BAD.

FOUNDRY UPDATE
Well, wish I could say that they were nearly ready... but they are not. But they are in full produciton. The foundry is quite dissapointing to me at how slow they are. I feel like if I don't visit them and bug them they just sit on the stuff. But fear not, two Webleys are already in the metal and finishing stage while 4 are ready to be poured in metal while one is still kind of lagging in the wax department. I will be returning next Wednesday to pic up another project so I hopefully my continued presence there will get things on the faster track. Here are a few pictures to hopefully brighten your day. Oh - it should be added that I think these Webleys will be the best of the best. A bit of extra time is being taken to do the finishing and the stocks are looking beautiful!

Oh - and the extra grip is something I forgot I had poured... Anybody need an extra grip? I can cast the brackets too as previously stated too. Grip in high buff will be $40 shipped.

$150 would be tops. I'm thinking more around $125 and that's shipped. I just have to see how heavy the solid bracket is so I might as well cast one to find out. I'll bring the wax there next Wednesday when I check progress on the rest of the stuff.

Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
Progress as of 11/7/2012
So progress is slow on these and I appologize but in the end I think we will all have a very high quality product. I have two cleaned up guns in my shop ready to be fitted with hardware while 4 are still at the foundry needing welding and initial clean up. Several stragler guns are still in wax.
In order to move the project along I will be going to the foundry on my day off to 'gate' the wax guns. With that being said, if anybody wants to jump on board and have thier waxes in process - NOW would be a great time!!!!
This will get them in progress. As of now I will do my best to get at least the first four out before Christmas. The rest will follow soon after.
*** If anybody truely need thier gun before Christmas then please PM me! I will move it along faster and get it through the process*****

Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
Hi all. I'm Hand-Schaub's woodworker on this project. I'm making the Webley replica gun stocks. So here's an update. Yesterday I got a beautiful piece of 2" walnut from my hardwood dealer. Attachment 65458
And then I spent some time laying out the stocks and rough cutting the shapes on the band saw. The walnut is hard and dense, so that bandsaw blade is pretty cashed in.
Attachment 65459
Next I'll rough cut the shape some more, then onto shaping, cutting the slot for the gun handle, and finish sanding. More soon.

Met with Canned Ham today. Great talking about Fett and props! The stocks will be AWESOME. I gave him the bracket to fit the stocks perfectly. One step closer!

Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
Hi all. I'm making the stocks on this project for Hand-Schaub. When I'm done with the ones for his castings, I'll have a few extra for sale. These will be solid, high grade walnut, based on a real Webley and Wizard of Light's plans. The recess in the side will be shaped and finished to fit the Webley handle. I'll finish them with an authentic dark walnut stain, but I'll leave the specific weathering to you. These stocks really make the gun. I even put one on my kid's Hasbro blaster, painted the plastic gun dark pewter, and weathered it and the results were great. There are a few pictures earlier in this thread of the stock.
$75 plus $15 shipping (in the lower 48). You can PayPal it to mccormick@csus.edu
I'll open my own thread for this shortly.

Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
Got a bit of time today to do the layout lines on the first batch of the square cut stocks. Then I got them on the band saw and did the rough cuts on the shapes. Looking pretty good:

Re: interest in the Hand-Schaub bronze Webley
I ordered the M20 patina today and metal wax. This will be a differnet color treatment than before. The black will be richer and should hold up better. I am also looking at sealing the guns beyond the metal wax.
I should be picking up some finished guns this week which means some final products are in the near future!
