if it gets scrapped, would it be possible to get the blue prints to the project? or maybe find another CNC guy that will do a small run?

I'll still be in even if the price has to go up. I hope the worst-case scenario doesn't happen.

Hmm. . . kind of disappointing.
I was really looking forward to having some snazzy ali ears on my bucket!

Hopefully more people will move from the "interested" to the "paid" group.

Ah that sucks. Id be in once i get a GMH in my possession. Im going to try and snag a resin one from someone who doesnt want theirs. But alas, dont have the money now. Gonna paint a Jetpack for someone for the cash for the GMH..but after that not sure what im gonna do to get the cash for this...if it happens.

Maybe we can work with someone here who can get it done in a smaller batch stateside? I know of at least two members who could possibly be spoken with about this. Thats just off the top of my head Im sure there are more. Not sure pricing and such with $$ being a factor everywhere...

These blue prints/files is the result of many many hours work, I haven't given up on this yet, just to give up the designs...

USPS says my bucket will be here on 4/24. Here's hoping! I've got the cash set aside for this so I'll be able to pay right away.

only thing that I might add about this is only so many of the people who bought lids actually paruse TDH. From the #s of helmets that went and how many builds or happy camper threads have you seen? I can only think of a handful of people who have the GMH and theyre the ones posting in here. The others are members who arent around from what I can tell. People who ordered the helmet and peaced out.

a few of them i'm sure went to the "As you Wish Project". and in that case they probably wont be getting the ears.

Re: GMH Aluminium Ears - Commitment

I think you mistake what I meant, helmets that were bought by members/collectors the 15 helmets to the AYWP I factored in theyve been in the artists hands for some time. There are people that dont post. I really think people should pick a set of these up not just because I want a set and we need more people to commit, but because if you dont get a set your going to regret it. The resin will work, but the metal ears on a helmet just set it off. When I get a helmet to paint that has the metal ears it is alot easier to get the desired effect on the ears being theyre legitimately metal. You get the weight of the metal adding to the helmet as well.

Bottom line YOU NEED these ears if you have a GMH, are getting a GMH, or plan to get a GMH. Hands down the commando8 ears wont work. There is a significant difference in the two ears.

Hell of a job on this. I am sorry that I have been unable to commit to it...recently been forced to throttle expenses. Very much appreciate the work and hopefully it comes together still somehow.

Re: GMH Aluminium Ears - Commitment

I just dont see anyone doing an ESB paintjob needing these so that weeds out some guys. The ROTJ lid needs metal ears all day but paying $250 for a set of ears to go on a helmet you dont have in your hands is a risky move for some guys. Hope this works out for you guys.

Are the ESB ears not metal? I know they are painted, but aren't they still metal underneath the paint? To me, the hollow stalk and accurate ear cap assembly is just as important as the actual metal ears themselves.

Re: GMH Aluminium Ears - Commitment

They are indeed metal, metal shows through the paint and the effect on certain parts can be acheived without metal, BUT the bare surfaces on the right earcap painted resin isnt going to be as nice as metal is. Simple as that, you can acheive the look with resin but its like having the resin borden, its up to the owner.

I know this is NOT the ESB helmet but its a couple great pic of its twin. And a great example to show my point here. Your treating yourself to the closest thing to the movie helmet we have available. May as well go all out, do it right the first time especially being this is only going to happen with a group buy basically.
Check out these pics...can you say that with plastic your going to get that beautiful metal peaking through at the edges, more than likely itll be plastic peaking through unless masked with sanding youll sand right through all the paint on an edge...or you will leave it painted and not have the metal or plasic peaking through. I really think youll kick yourself later not getting a set of these...I know I would, and might have to buy two sets. Seems to be a trend with things lately for me though.

i wish there was a link button on that! seriously, if you are going for the most accurate helmet available, why wouldn't you finish it off right? the GMH has the greatest lineage of from the screen used bucket that you can get and for a good price.. At the end of the day, we do this to look like the characters from the movie!

Lets not junk up Mojos thread man, I think you have made your statement on the fiberglass reinforced plastic vs non fiberglass reinforced plastic already. Either way its plastic.

I think using them for ESB would be great as there is strill metal showing an resin ears are no match in crispness
