(the red doesn't go all the way down to the end of the purple fabric but that's okay by me. We did it mostly because I plan to wear the veil up more than down, so I didn't want to risk having the red show.)

work it baby! oh, did you use real pigskin? Just wonderin. The real stuff is heavy. My first veil was a suedecloth. The red silky underliner gets suffolcating after awhile. I can't imagine what you had to go through with that sandperson outfit tho' Yikes!

Ladies, thank you for showing how cool and sexy Zam can be. I totally overlooked her in the film but it's great to see your "I Zam that I Zam" coolness coming out in these outfits.

Over and above all that, amazing craftsmanship you are doing. In a way, you are Zam pioneers. Keep on keeping on!

Very nice work indeed. (y)

All you Zammers are doing a fine job of blazing a trail for me to follow, while working on my wife's get-up. :D

Nope, we found a shirt at meijers for $10 that had the look and feel of suede without the weight. :D

It'll work for now. :)

Yeah...the tusken female shroud was a bi#$% to make.

Looks great Kimmy! :D :D

Couple questions.... For Cutest Sandgirl or Zam I Am -

What sort of fabric did you use for the red liner? Looks like satin to me... is that right? Did you custom dye it?

Second... how did you attach the veil to the helmet? Can you post any pics of the hardware you used for that process?

Third... How big a piece of material/suede is the shawl? What is the basic shape of the shaw... a triangle or half a donut *Hey... I'm hungry! ;) *

We used some red satin we had laying around the house. :) No dyeing involved.

Mum just used regular hooks like you would find with hooks & eyes sets. http://www.joannfabrics.com/catalog.jhtml;$sessionid$P40ZTEQAACAHAP4SY5FBHOR50LD2WEPO?CATID=25013&PRODID=12112

LOL! To be honest, I'm not quite sure. I think ZIA would be better to answer this question.... or I can ask mom. She just layed the fabric over my shoulders, pinned it at the front, and then cut the fabric according to images. She put darts in the front corners to give that pleated look.

Ok, the veil has pleats?darts? I don't know what they are called, (me not being a real seamstress, I don't know all the terms) but anyhoo, there are three on each side of the one that is on the "on screen" Zam. Those are located at the frontside by the earcovers.

Shawl/Mock hood- I guessed, and my guess was wrong, it's still too long. I couldn't pin it exactly, cause I have better marking skills than my hubby when it comes to sewing, and obviously, I cant measure myself. I just became a twisted sister ;)

I know Kim said her mom cut the veil kinda long. That way, once the rest of the armor is fitted, she'll know if she has to cut down the length a little to look more like the movie suit.

Hey, I thought that satin looked familiar. ;) Glad to see I could donate a part to your costume endevor. Looking good there Kimmy. Your mom does great work as always.

Me too! I just bought a thrift store satiny longsleeve shirt that had enough of the right "red", and cut the back out. $1.90 can't beat that price!

Okay... stupid question of the day! ;)

Does the veil show the suede side of the leather or the smooth side?

I've got the veil cut out of my leather! *YEAH!* Now.. I'm looking at the various pictures and can't decide which side should be showing! Most of the pics look like the suede side, but when I look at DCB's pics from the MOM exhibit - it looks like the smooth leather side is what shows!

So ... which is right?
