    Jun 4, 2013, 5:56 AM - New Old Zam #1

    Hello you lot

I think it's finally time for me to post my WIP here.
I've been lurking in corners for so many years, reading all projects and learning and gaining so much. So HUGE thank you to all you talented Zammers here, you have done awesome work.
My Zam has now a new host as I realized I cannot wear her anymore. After all these years and hard work health issues hit me and I decided it is time to part with her. (Although that took awhile too, but that's another story)
Anyway, some parts are well detailed, some are not. I still need to redo gauntlets, for instance. Will post all process so far in the coming days.

    And more to follow...

Don't know where to start, really. This has been going on for so long now.
Some parts have been well-documented, some I forgot and some been documented with ****** phone camera.
I tried to do economy Zam, because I couldn't afford to purchase MonCal's kit. So I wanted to see how far I could go.

Vest. I bought second hand leather jacket and this has gone through lots of transformations.

    After dye:

Now I don't have pic of the vest after I gave it gentle wash in washing machine

First of the parts I bought was boots. I managed to get two pairs of Prada's from fleabay and as the bigger ones went with the costume, I kept the other pair. They are really good to wear.

    Jumpsuit

I went on with the easiest choice and got some neoprene from Stretch House.

Yeah, it does the trick, but it certainly lacks that needed sheen.

I sew it twice, as I wasn't happy with the seams. So second time they do look much better.

Various stages of chest armour. I drew a template to get right measurements.

Because of very tight budget, I had to be creative with tools.

So here I created the 1/4" rectangular shaped holes to each corner, making 8 holes and connecting them with chisel. Took awhile, got blisters in my palms but it was worth it. I think skirt is the best part of the costume I ever made.

Then dyed pieces. I used MonCal formula for these and color is amazing,

    Testing the lacing first...

At first, I used this kind of belt to tie laces in. But changed it in a last minute to more lighter one with less holes. However, I don't have pic of that.

    Holster in the making.

This pic shows bad glue work. I sanded all the extra off later.

    Zam's beads.

I used 7mm or 8mm glass beads with gunmetal coating which I did slide on leather cord.

There was two parts of the costume I didn't make myself. The one was her blaster. This is made by a friend of mine.

With the helmet I went on trying pepakura style. I made five in total to get it right size-wise.

Various stages of the helmet. After finishing with the base, I gave it a coat of resin to harden it up. Then the top got layers of P38 (car body filler here in the UK)

Thin layers every time followed by vigorous sanding.

I gave a coat of primer in some point to see how it looks like. Line for the prim looks dodgy, but after some more sanding it looked ok.

Looks pretty crafty and hose part in the neck is under gaffer tape and again another part I have no picture of. I guess towards the end I got tired of the whole project I stopped taking pictures.

Now it has coat of Rub'n'Buff

    Details to go with helmet.

Test fitting with the prim. Slightly over sized in the front.

Last picture of helmet. No binoculars, though. My boyfriend made really nice ones for me, just need to dig archives to find another lost picture.

Next time I will make slush cast from the helmet. This is slightly heavy to use so resin would definitely be lighter.

    Some pictures of Cummerbund belt.

I bougth these boot hooks from Germany but didn't buy the bottom part. And the time I started making the belt I couldn't find the parts anywhere. So had to buy another set which was closest I could find on the internet then. Too bad, these hooks were perfect.

As I wanted the belt be firm and not collapse under weight of holster, I made a pocket on the back side where I could slide firm leather in.

These are the other hooks I found then. Also, I made belt from leatherette and used the same dye than in skirt. But because of nature of the material, dye turned out like this.

Greeblies (the brooch, neck seal, was a gift. So, if anyone recognizes the maker, it would be great.)

    Hose connectors
