Neoprene under suit-second batch?

Zam I Am

http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/showthread.php?t=3031

I saw some interest in this awhile back and recently and am considering starting a second batch. Life has taken a hold of me and I am slower to respond to requests so please bear with me. I cannot be quick to post or respond to letters like I used to. I mebbe visit the forums once a week to respond to things. I also have been having major comp conversion issues. Like before though, there are specific requirements for me to fill in order to make this order happen. I need a minimum number of people in order to do this bulk purchase. If you are definately interested, please post your name. Also, if you read through the entire bodysuit thread above, you will get an idea of the research, money and time dedicated into getting this fabric. When the requirements are met, I will need payment upfront to have everything manufactured. The requirements have changed, and once I do an analysis of the price increase by the manufacturers and product availability, then I will post the requirements. Last time, I lost considerable amount of money doing this. Please realize, if this doesn't work to all of our benefit, I will have to drop the project. All shipments of fabric must have insurance paid. I think there still needs to be 18 people in order to make this work, but we'll see, like I said, I have to recalculate all the requirements. Please post questions here. You will be receiving 5 yards of tricot neoprene, exactly the same as the first run in color, but with a 60" width. Should be enough for one person. List closed
Thanks,

List closed Manufacturing the stuff takes 2 month and 1/2 turn around at best, and I have to measure, lay out, and cut everyone's fabric bolts to the yardage, cut all the boxes for labeling and shipping. If you have been interested or know someone who has been interested please make sure to get them in now. I will be making calculations on price, call the manufacturers with real numbers. The estimated price per person from last time's run was $225.00. It is now the same but without shipping and handling costs. So if you can't afford at least that, then please don't put your name on the list. Info I need first though, is: The people with marked :confused by their name, please give me the following info: Your real name, your TDH name, physical address for shipping the fabric, your email address, preferred method of payment paypal; money order; US check; or Western Union; are the only methods accepted. The amount listed on this thread will not include shipping to you, all of those charges will have to be calculated separately on a per person basis, as we have several people on the list that are from foriegn countries. The cost of shipping to and from the various companies, however, will be incorporated. I will also have to charge shipping insurance on all the fabric. I can't afford the loss like last time. The necessity for finally closing the list eventually is because once I have a final number of people, and all the money works out. ?: info and payment from EVERYONE.

I think somebody wants to make Zam v.2.03! ;)

Are you going to be checking out new backing material? I.e. thinner neoprene or some other backing? Are you going to go with a slightly different color on the spandex? Or was it a slightly different material? *I'm kinda hazy on the details we discussed at the FIDM exhibit*

Count me in - I would love to have a lighter fabric for the suit!

Hi Zam,

We would definitely be interested, and understand that the cost to us would be more because of international shipping. Just haven't been able to find anything close to the colour here in Aus.

Thanks in anticipation of all the work you will be putting in to organise this again.

Cheers :cheers

Crap, I really didn't consider any of that-or a new suit. ARG! The neoprene presented by that company was the only company in the US to offer that type of neoprene, at that type of thickness. I believe everything was manufactured with international ties to manufacturers in the "east." therefore, I can't get any thinner than what we have, unless if the company I worked before with has new product lines.

Hi,
This isn't really my first post i've just forgotten my board name because i haven't here in awhile and wanted to start over with a name i use mostly now. But hi to everone and this place still rocks! :cheers
I would like on the list for the 2nd run Zam material. Please advise with any other details and pricing when ready. The first run looked great! I plan to do this costume for my wife. :)
thanx!

Yvonne, you may want to post on the 501st board and link them here to gain some more interest......... maybe you already did and I missed it ;)

I actually haven't-thanks for the idea. I have just been super busy, like I said it's like-I can only get to the forums once a week, twice at most.

Greetings and Salutations!

I am new to this forum but am right at the beginning stages of making my own Zam suit for 501st membership and other things. I hope no one minds if I ask many many questions in the next coming months....I'm hoping to have it done by april. ^_^

Zam I Am, I would very much like to learn more about the bodysuit fabric so any info would be greatly appreciated. I noticed in your other thread yoou mentioned a sematress? Do you have someone who is able to sew the neoprene etc, cause I don't think my machine would handle it! <lol> I haven't had much chance to browse the forums yet...I noticed you all reffer to her outfit as a body suit, does that mean full length and not a seperate top and pants? Must make it difficult to get in and out of.

Anyway, thanks so much!

Cheers! :D

I am not really offering her suit sewing services to people anymore. It was too much of a headache for me to play correspondant for free, and took too much of my time. I was bending over backwards to make everyone happy, even though it really had nothing to do with me. Her work was great for some, and not great for others. A custom suit without a "fitting" and over just email, especially with neoprene, is almost not worth it. Especially when it's noone's fault when something goes awry. Double laminated Neoprene is one finicky material. She has generic patterns for medium sized women, but forget about it being custom anymore.

Yeah, I got her bodysuit and vest patterns...the bodysuit especially was disappointing since I was under the impression it was supposed to be fit to my measurements.

My advice, don't waste your money on her patterns. I'm still tweaking mine on and off when I have time, and I haven't started to cut the neoprene yet because I can't get it to fit right and the seams to fall where they need to.

Eventually....eventually I'll get my suit made. LOL

Oh- she did do yours with your measurements. That's what I saw- out of yours, lady zam and sandgirl and moncal's, they were all different. She calculated it with a computer patterning thing too. Yours should have fit just right for the neoprene. Did it not?

We have been working on various Zam parts fo a little while, Don't really post much but read through everything! Like others, it depends on final cost, but really interested! The suit fabric is something I've been wondering how to do, so this would be good! I hope this all works out!

It wasn't even close.

The first mock-up I did of the top was terrible. The shoulder seams didn't fall where they needed to, the top piece didn't sit right on my body. I used a fabric with a similar stretch as the neoprene to make the first mock-up, so in reality it should've fit about the same on me as the neoprene would have.

I will not cut the neoprene until I get the pattern tweaked to where it fits me right. :facepalm

HothGirl- Sigh I am so sorry. I wished that it would have went better! :( I am glad that you spoke up- I hope that cutest's pattern isn't bad. Mebbe you all can swap pattern/sewing ideas right to tweak stuff. Aparently, Maulmaus's friend noticed that the welt seam on my pants was flipped as opposed to the pictures - near the knees. So, unfortuneatly, the pattern is not perfect. I believe that the seamstress didn't know that tidbit either. Either that, or she flipped the welt seam to accommodate having to sew or 8? pieces of neoprene together without breaking another needle. My brain is going... I can't remember. And, it's late...
