    Lacing - pic request

I've scoured threads for the last 90 minutes looking for a good picture of the back of the skirt and so far I've come up empty. Or, I could use some help from someone who can explain how to do the lacing. Or both. Can anyone help?

Are you looking for help on how to lace it? Like directions? I know there were a couple of great diagrams here that explained everything on how to lace up the skirt. I can post them again, if I don't find the link for you...

There isn't a good picture of the back of the "real" skirt... though I could snap a picture of the back of the one I did... if you want.

Well... I couldn't find those diagrams either, so they must have gotten lost in the site transfers or re-organizations some where along the way.

However... all is not lost - I do have backups! The Making the Skirt Thread has lots of great information for you about how to make the skirt, including information on lacing.

But here are the diagrams made waaaay back by Dustin Crops Boy that show it, better than I can ever explain it....

This is the main lacing for the skirt - Don't be concerned if it starts "folding" up on you - that is normal, and will flatten out as you add more rows on it. Also, don't lace it too tight, the lace will stretch a bit as you're lacing up the squares. And remember the squares overlap from bottom to top - the opposite of roof shingles.

This is the pattern for lacing up the sides of the skirt, which you will do last.

You're welcome - although it was Dustin Crops Boy who created those wonderful drawings.

Err... seems like I forgot to explain them.. (I was tired last night when I posted them...) I'll edit the post to explain them... Uggghh..

ZhongFett - The skirt looks good - love the colors.

    Except I see 2 problems:

1: I assume the left side of the pictures are the top of the skirt - as the squares are smaller there? You will need lacing at the top to attach this skirt to some sort of belt to be able to wear it - Unless you have some other system in place?

2: Minor Issue: On the movie skirt, there were no lacings crossing over the squares themselves - they only went through the holes like on the example - each time. I'll try to get a picture of the back of my skirt posted today...

Thx MaulMaus but when you arrive at the top, one of the lacing has to cross over the square otherwise how do you pull it out to the next rowl? Is it maybe because I used two laces ? :-((

    Re: Lacing - pic request

Okay, I got a couple of pictures of my skirt - I hope they show what I was talking about.

You only need one lace per two columns of squares i.e. one lace goes down... then back up the set of leather squares. The loose ends of the lace are then left at the top of the skirt as you'll see on my skirt. When you are all finished with the lacing and it has time to hang loose and you re-tighten the lace you can attach to the belt as I have done and then cut off the excess lacing. I just haven't cut off the excess lacing yet.

On the end row you simply tie a knot on the end and lace up the side, leaving some at the end.

Here are the pics. If you need closeups or better pictures, I'll need to use my other camera...

The skirt back: Note that the lacing pieces hang off the end of the belt.. I will need to trim them off of course - but each piece is tied off at the top end of the skirt, not continuously laced on the skirt.

This is a partial view of the front of the skirt - only "x" can be seen on that side except at the sides.

Edit: I have an extra row of squares because I needed it to be the right length on me... (it might be 2 - I don't remember any more ?). When we came up with the measurements, I wanted those to be correct, but then the skirt wasn't the correct length on me... so I needed the extra row

    Re: Lacing - pic request

These pictures are very helpful. I laced four columns together last night and this morning, but I didn't like how it was looking (I think I was pulling too tight, and then I also ended up with some slack in the middle--AND I wasn't overlapping correctly) so I pulled it out out again. There's a few hours down the drain, but I'd rather take some extra time now to get it all right. It's not like I'm in a huge hurry.

I remember thinking I wasn't lacing tight enough - because, as you see, there is some slack in the lacing. I laced it, then let it hang for a few days, then tightened it a bit again. The squares aren't moving around any, even though some of the lacing looks a bit loose there.

Hey guys! Deunan Shiruba here, Seattle Zam.

My skirt also looks like MaulMaus' lacing. The lacing I left a little eased in the middle, where you sit on it, because I knew I didn't want to pop a lace the first time I sat. It's one year of trooping in it, and I'm about to re-lace it completely as it broke in and relaxed a lot.

I have extra gloves btw, if you're in a rush.

The lacing is the primary reason I will never do one of these skirts again. I'm not 100% happy with the colors of my wife's skirt, but what's done is done. The lacing looks exactly like MaulMaus' example.
