Just got my order of neoprene from the Jabbadashery. It is awesome! Can't wait to get at it with my sewing machine I'll post some pics.

Definitely do! And thank you so much for mentioning Jabbadashery--I had never heard of them! What do you think of the Zam fabric (color, sheen, etc)?

I didn't think they were making it anymore. Guess I'll take another look at their website. I had the impression they were out of it, and not getting more.

OK! It would appear they are trying to get this out for people making stuff for the parties and such... Awesome news, Sirene! Makes this alot easier since I won't have to dye my own now!!!

I'm having trouble finding a pattern. How much fabric should I purchase? And who knows where I can find a great pattern for it?

I have not ordered it yet. I'm looking at 3 yards (a little over 2 1/5 meters). I think it's only going to take 1 1/2 to 2 yards to make the actual costume, with the stretchy material in between the neoprene. I don't know for sure yet, but that's my best guess. The other 1/12 is for screw ups or another costume should the first one work well.

I'm using a body suit pattern and adapting it. Going to cut the pattern out of stretchy scrap material I bought first before cutting the precious neoprene.

I'm using Kwik Sew K3052 and going to adapt (as you do). I can't remember - it was so long ago that I bought it! Put this costume on the back burner at the moment.

I actually found that pattern at a sewing class I took last week, and I bought it as I knew it was one of the few people had utilized for this costume. I haven't bought from Jabbadashery yet, but I've got the black matte lycra already. Hopefully, I can buy the neoprene in two weeks.

I'm waiting my jabbadashery fabric. Once I get it, I will begin to buy colors to dye leather and obtain similar colors

    That's what I'm using

Depends on what size you are (look at the top for xs, s, m, l, xl). Then follow down. Depends on the fabric width as to how much you need to buy (if I remember correct it was closer to 45"). The first number is imperial - yards I think. The second number in brackets is in meters.

it also shows the amount you would need depending on which direction the stretch of the fabric is longer; crosswise is edge to edge across the bolt, lengthwise should be obvious.

Oh, I didn't even think about using the bathroom, hah!! Does anyone know if the Jabbadashery fabric stretches crosswise or lengthwise?

if i remember correctly, the accurate costume does have the undersuit as a two piece, with the top being a micro crop. there are a few photos in the gallery that hint at this this.

here's a picture of a girl in a long sleeve micro crop to demonstrate

Yep, I'm planning to modify the body suit to be two pieces.

    Ditto Nomisha's comment.
I'm going to try hook/eye or simple snaps (something easy to attach and detach) in a few places to keep the top portion down to the bottoms. Can you imagine this stuff riding up? The leather and all chafing would be awful.

So, is it just bare skin that you'd see under the lacing on the vest? Or does she wear something thinner underneath? Thanks for the reference pictures--I didn't catch that!

Also, silver, you ordered the fabric recently, can I ask how much fabric you purchased? This is my first time building any costume (I picked a hard enough one, eh?)... I'm getting over my head with this!

It's hard to tell from the runway show pics, but a black underarmor shirt probably wouldn't hurt anyones feelings.

beyora, I emailed them about my height and weight and requested their suggestion because I don't have alot of sewing experience yet.

If it will help, and I can rely on 5 billion people to not spread my size around ( yeah, right!), I'm right at 5 foot tall and 135 pounds. They suggested 3 meters, which allows for mistakes. By the time I actually fit this, it should be s looser fit as I've been dropping weight slowly. I don't know how thin, thick, tall or short you are, but I recommend emailing them, if you are buying the fabric from them for certain.
