Saw it this weekend and it was really beautiful! Incredible job Dallas!
The helmet is way friggin awesome. Cutest Sandgirl got to try it on, and so did Maulmaus (I think) Did it fit your noggin? Anycow, thanks for everything Dal ~ can't pull the costume off without the right bucket.![]()
The helmet was freakin' awesome!!!! Don't know how else to describe it... I want one... I want it now!!!![]()

No, it barely fit mine (cause I have a big goard), so I was just wonderin.

It was a blast to see in person.Great job Dallas!!!
did you try it on Kimmy¿ i don't remember... i'm just trying to get a poll on who it fit and who it didn't...
Awesome - saw this baby in person. Awesome job DCB. one question, is this a playboy mickey mouse i see there?
<image src=http://zam-wesell.com/helmetdone/back.jpg>

Possible other people who might have tried on the helm~ Jangomontes' wife,
Blue Roommate,
Maulmaus, Cutest,
I am surprised, Rags~ you didn't ask..
Who else? Umm...Mr. fett![]()
I can't remember who else. I was trying to get people to check out the neoprene suit and vest, but... Not enuff zam time discussion. Man! I so wanted to have all zams sit at one end of the table at dinner so that I could explain the suit/vest patterning.
DCB: I think that headless chicken was me at D*C on Saturday!!!!
Yep... I know! I had a million and one questions I wanted to ask you... but no time! Lack of sleep didn't help matters any! :/ I had wanted to sit near you at the dinner, but *blast* SM was late...late...late!!!

I wanted to, but everytime I recalled to ask was bad timing so I let it slide. I am also convienced it would not fit my head anyways. Looks like I am going to have to do my own Helmet
Yep. I tried it on after TDH dinner.
Dustin Crops Boy wrote:

Round of applause for Dallas!!!I know personally how much work Dallas has put into his helm, because my hubby and I were at his house and Zam I Ain't got to help out with a little of the fiberglassing. He has fully critiqued the helm down to the last detail. We even brought a leather tool over so that he could even make the little "edge detail" on the brims. Fully weathered brim, ear pieces, and I am just blown away by the armatures. This baby is fully worth it. Little emblems on the helm -VERY NICE and accurate. You'd be outta your goard if you didn't get one from him. Just the sheer detail. Even on the ear piece - all sortsa stuff is going on. The materials used to acquire a metal finish on the gauntlets and helm are really really applied with LOADS of care too.![]()
Thanks Dallas! For all your hard work!
I second that one!!

I had the chance to really look at the helmet and was blown away. Like I said before.. I want one and I want it now!!!!
The gauntlets were fantastic too! But then, what does Dallas make that isn't fantastic... just look at this site!

You know ZIA... you almost didn't have a helmet to take back home... not that I didn't try to fit it into my suitcase or anything!Just that I couldn't lock it!!! *thanks TSA! :p*
After a long hiatus the latter part of summer and not being able to work on Zam -( I was building a new garage and all my stuff was scattered amoung the back yard and basement )- I am now able to get some work done. The garage is pretty much done (it's not completely done yet - my electricity is coming from a long extension cord from the house)... but I know have lights and a space heater out there (I live in Minnesota - a space heater is REQUIRED!) ...
I have 5 helmets completely cast up... I have all the brims cut, etched and dyed and I have all the armatures bent and the rod ends drilled & tapped, etc... and all the hardware is purchased. All i really have left now is the gruesome part of cleaning up of each casting (LOTS of lung coating dremeling to do)... I also have to buy a few more binoculars - assemble each one and give em a lovely buffing and weathering.
I decided to only make 5 helmets - as they're a pain to do and there is not a huge audience for Zam stuff. So, saving one for myself - i will only have 4 left... so count yer pennies or be nice to Santa... I predict they will be done in 2-4 weeks (I still only get a few hours a week to work on them).
DCB make I know I plan to get one of these lovely helmets. So as soon as you say the word I will send the money.
Maulmaus is too, she's in Germany right now, and has no access to the comp.

I wanted to let you know - I'm going to be out of town (going on a trip to Germany to visit family ) I didn't expect to go so soon, but hubby had his schedule changed around (3x... grrrrr...) and I'm leaving on Monday and I won't be back until the 24th.
We're in. PM me with the price for Kimmy's helmet whenever you get the chance. Thanks.![]()
I'd sure hate to miss out on another one of your projects!
.....(still hoping there might be another run of blasters)...
I'm in if there's room
ok - i guess i'll put one more together... i actually have one partially cast up in the mold right now - i just ran out of sq. tubing and a bit of hardware to do a 6th one... but i can get that stuff... i'm just being lazy and dreading another fiberglass layup.
so - 5 it is... (plus mine).... but that's IT:
- Rags
- Hothy
- Mousey
- Kimmy
- MonCal
I'll let you all know when they're done.
I am also interested in her helmet. I could put it together myself so you would not have to mess with cleaning and fine trimming. but i am defiantly interested.
Thanks Dallas!
I'm always afraid I'm going to miss out on something when I can't check inIt's sort of like my lotto numbers I've been playing for what....12 years...I just know they're going to call 'em when I forget to buy a ticket....I know, I know, I'm a sucker for the the idiot-tax
Anyway, I'm finally back home and hopefully will be able to get back to work on the costume (including shins for whom it may concern) and check in more!! (crosses fingers)
Dallas,
Just be sure to let us know when you are ready to accept money for the helmets. I want to be sure I get you the payment.
i'm getting there... an hour one night - 10 minutes the next... but they'll be done VERY soon:

Shaping up nicely there!![]()
Those looks fantastic! I can't believe I missed out on one!

This weekend i got ALL the assembly done and all the weathering on the base helmets. I also got all the armatures bent and assembled (lots of little screws)... the only thing left now is to assemble the binoculars - which i have all the parts for now. I had to go to 3 targets to get all 12 binocs... since they were having a sale on them this past week... they were marked down to $14.24 instead of $14.95.... ooooh... a big savings
The binocs should be done tonight or tomorrow... depending on how li'l Franklin is cooperating.... once the binocs are done - then the helmets will be COMPLETE!
btw - they are looking SUPER good... the weathering really brings out the beauty of 'em... i think you'll all be very pleased.
DCB,
Your work is phenomenal! I am impressed.
Wes
Very cool. I am looking forward to haveing my helmet. I so need to get a maniqune done for displaying my Zam Suit.
done done done done.........

NICE,VERY NICE!!
Bucket's off to ya Dallas!
Bravo!

Awesome!
Is that Rubb & Buff? or is that the stuff you showed me before at Wizards World? wanna share how it was done?![]()
rub n buff.... pffttt... that's for amatuers
just kidding
Yeah - it's Lab Metal... tricky as hell to work with - but the results are totally worth it. It looks so much like metal - because, well, because it IS metal... You accidentally scratch it and it just shines MORE! It even has the cold-to-the-touch feel of metal
What lab metal is - is an aluminum compound. It's basically a thick putty with aluminum in it... you can thin it out w/ their lab metal thinner - or just get some toulene (sp?) at the hardware store - it's a LOT cheaper and does he same trick.
This stuff can be thinned to airbrush consistency - but it's a HUGE pain to clean out of the brush and the results aren't really worth the effort. I just thin it enough to brush it on. I brush it as my first layer in the mold - let that dry - then do my layers of fiberglass.
Once it's out of the mold - it looks like a dull grey and not very purty.... just give it a nice sanding and it'll start to shine. I use a 220 grit paper. Then i buff it with a wheel with some rubbing compound on the wheel.
violá!
Sweet! Send me the info.![]()
I am in AWE!!Dallas, they don't even look like replicas. It looks like the helmet that is sitting on Zam's head. Amazing!!! Excellent work!
...and soon to be sitting on yer head too, ms. kimmy![]()
Totally amazing work!
I wish I would've gotten in on these, but my wife didn't want to be Zam then.....now she does. Women!
Well I know Dallas is aware my payment was sent to him this morning. I am so happy to be getting one of these. If the helm does not fit my head as it should well then I Will just have one very expensive display costume in the end, but this is one hell of a nice piece of work dallas has done and if what we saw at dragon Con is what we are getting in this run of them they are well worth it.
*picks self up off the floor*
Wow!!!!!! Those are freakin' awesome! You are a "Costuming GOD" Dallas!!!![]()
![]()
*Many....many thanks to ZamIAm for putting my name on that list! - I owe you dinner at DC2004 now!*
they're BETTER. The one at DC was my first one out of the mold (well, my 7th one out of the mold.. but the first one that was useable

) I think you will all be pleased.
Wow! wish I could have gotten in on this sooner =(
they look fantastic. Great job DCB!
Those look FANTASTIC!!!
Good job man!
