Because the fabric will have a lesser total thickness, Do you want me to order the fabric where the lamination goes all the way to the edges of all three materials ie, lycra, neo, and nylon? The neoprene company really seemed to have problems matching the fabric together width wize. This would forego folding the lycra over the top edge of the pants idea. And just turn the whole thing over to sew...Or, we can still go with one edge having lycra a little longer. Where, lycra =54" neoprene and nylon = give or take 50" width. The prototype came out to be 54"lycra 50" neoprene and 48" nylon. For some reason they had problems matching the nylon and neoprene exactly together.
I would like to be put in touch with the seamstress on pricing too. Does this mean we have over a month and a half to come up with the $$ for the seamstress?
Lemme know! Payment on the way for the fabric!!! LOOKS GREAT!!!!
Yeah, you have a month and a half to save up for the seamstress. I have no idea about cost. My guess is $250 but it's only a guess. She won't know price until she does mine. And, I don't think this guess figure includes the black cotton leotard underneath. I will talk to her this week when she does the welt seam for the prototype.
Is this a critical decision? The top of the pants is where it makes a difference isn't it? If it's not critical, then perhaps we should consider what is easier for the lamination company to do a great job and also for the seamstress?Quote:

Not critical, just need to make a decision so that the neoprene co. can strive to laminate it a certain way. It's sorta more fabric vs. the seamstress sewing through three pieces kinda thing. Our tallest person can still wear the pants at a 44" width, so there is enough clearance there for the width to be at 44" and have a pants leg without any wrong seams/cuts in it. It mostly effects those who want to sew it themselves.Quote:

Hey Zam makes no difference to me. I say go with what works for the neo company.
Exactly, as long as there is enough material to make the full suit :)
BTW, everyone who is on the seamstress list has been asking me "how much?" It can be anywhere around $250.00 And that is a HUGE guess from me. THe seamstress won't even know until we've finished drafting the pattern, and made my suit. There are lingering questions as to whether there are anymore special stitching besides the welt seams on the arms and legs and pants top. She will email everyone when she is ready to take measurements and/or give people a list of what things to measure for. She also needs to do more testing on the prototype before she can give any sort of price quote. She (has time for testing) and everyone has a month and a half (to save up) before she gets the fabric too. So, thanks for being patient, cause this whole suit thing is going to be a long wait. If anyone wants to point out any particulars that they've noticed about the patterning that I have failed to see, post please! I have heard from everyone except for two people regarding payment. I hope to order next week, so please expedite the dough via cashiers check or paypal soon, so that I can order earlier in the week. Thanks!
Prototype swatches with a welt seam will be mailed out on Saturday March 1st. I need the money to clear by Wednesday for me to make the order on Thursday. Please send your payments in!!!
EDIT** Many people who have sent me paypal amounts have also listed a different address than what they pm'ed me before. I will send your swatches to the address indicated on the Paypal address given. I can only assume it is the most current address. Oh, There will be an update on my webpage, for you to view regarding prototype 1 vs. prototype 2. I will give you all the link when I get back from the post office. You have to remember, my seamstress was testing needles and properties of the material using your prototypes, that is why the welt seams are different that will be sent out. The welt seams will eventually be more like prototype 1.
See? http://200.72.134.171/cdref/tdh/img/2proto.jpg
I got the sample today (Monday). It looks amazing. I think you found the perfect thing, Zam.
I look forward to getting the suits done.
DarkTrooper
I just received the prototype also... IT IS AMAZING!!! :D
We are all gonna have killer suits!!!
Oh, I talked to my seamstress, because this version of neoprene is a lot thinner than the first swatch they sent us, I am going to order the fabric so that they laminate the whole thing so that there is no lycra hanging over. If anything, we would trim the neo and nylon off. That way, there is no wasted fabric, and the seamstress is happy too.
Got my Sample just now. The color is perfect and then thickness is also prefect. The welt seam lookslike it will work out properly but I think on the final sauit the welt seam should be a bit more wide. The current one on my sample is about 1/4 inch and I think the finnal one should be closer to 1/2 inch in width.
Wait....
Does everyone see it....?
I do believe.......
Yes....It is.....
A light at the end of our tunnel.......
Great work Zam I Am.......!!!!!!!!
:lol :lol - Dark Trooper
Oh, btw, I will bringing my cardboard cut out today to my seamstress so she can see how big everything should be :)
weee- nice sample :D PERFECT! one more baby step down... 80 million more to go :suprise
Got my sample, the stuff looks GREAT! I wish there was a male costume that used this stuff! I'm ready to make a Zam suit for myself! :lol
Got my sample. Thank you. Very awesome. You did good.
*Fondles sample lovingly* Ahh... it's my precious! ;)
Perfect zam i am! Just perfect!!!! Great job! Great job! *cheers and a drink on me at D*C for you zam i am! *
Yes... I do see that light! I can't wait to see the whole thing when it's done... Then there's what 79,999,999 more steps, right? ;)
that does look really great :)

I recieved my sample today! That's much faster than I thought, all the way here to Holland. It looks really great, thanks Zam I Am!
:lol And, the post office goofed to our advantage. LOL I just put a 37 cent stamp on there by accident. But I put AIRMAIL so... I guess someone is smiling on you today! :)
Received my sample this morning. Well, it went to Holland quicker than it went to Colorado Hmm? :)
Awesome..This stuff is going to look great! :D
Thanks Zam I am for all your efforts.
cal
Got my sample on Tuesday. IT'S AWESOME!
Thanks so much Zam I Am. :D :cheering
Ok guys, if I order tomorrow, it will take about two months not a month and a half. I need time to distribute, the dyeing company and lycra company need time to cut and send the fabric ,and dye it, so that eats up some time too. Oh, and then the one month lamination time for the neo company. So about two months is the wait period. I also am trying to work out measurements of the lycra for the neoprene company. Apparently, the dyeing company claims that the lycra shrunk, so I have to account for shrinkage... etc etc. I did for the width but forgot for the length. So, once I get the measurements straight, and the checks cleared, the order will be put in.
Edit** ORDER IS IN!!! wohoo!
Excellent! Now to pace for two months. ;) :lol :D
I just want to introduce and welcome surlygirlie to our fellowship!!! She came in and saved the fellowship from extra wait time on bodysuit ordering. (Round of applause.) And, she has turned lurk mode off and finally joined TDH. (Another round of applause).
:cheers to surlygirlie :) Welcome to the clawdite clan. And she too, recieved her swatch. Anyone not recieve theirs by now?
Eeeeeek!
I've been outed!
Heidi ho, all, and thanks for the welcome, Zam. :)
Back to semi-lurkitude...
Woohoo! you have been dubbed clawdite :) Go team ZAM! Muhahaha, you've been tagged by Dallas ;) The only problem with being in our team, is that you frequently have to watch out for those pesky camino darts...Quote:

eheheheh also welcome to the semi-lurkers here tee hee hee

The dyeing company will now ship the lycra to the neoprene company tomorrow. Yeah!!! Hopefully, all will laminate well :) The lycra company switched lycra mills on me, and they made the width a lot larger. Hopefully it all looks the same as the prototype. Sheesh, I thought it would be cut and dry, but actually, stock changes, and I have to roll with the punches. So, I have had to change the specs for the neo company for lamination. They won't be trimming anything, so... we'll see how it goes.
Edit: Yesterday, the neoprene company recieved the lycra and I also recieved a shipment of the dyed lycra. The color is the same, the sheen is the same, but the texture is a little less porous looking. I hope you guys don't mind. I will post a pic later, but you probably won't be able to tell the difference with the dvcam shots from before and this new lycra. I know I couldn't unless I zoomed into the fibers.
I'm sure it'll still look terrific! :D
Don't think anyone outside of this group is going to be zooming in so close to the fabric and telling us how much it looks like/doesn't look like the "Real Zam!" :lol :lol
Well it looks like the real thing to me. NO QUESTION. NOT ONE!
Hey everyone on the seamstress list, just wanted to let you know, I will probably be posting pics of what to measure and send all of you an email with an excel spread sheet, where you just type in the measurement and email the info back to me. This will probably happen on Sunday. So, just to get preliminary information out of the way. My seamstress wants me to handle the communications. (most of you will be asking the same questions, so...) If you definately are on or off the seamstress list please let me know now. Approximate price range is around $300.00. Thanks yall :)
Will she have the pattern done soon? Any estimate of that?
For those wanting patterns, I will ask her on Saturday (that's when my apptment is, and will post about it on Sunday. She just opened a new storefront. So, she has been occupied prepping the store. She started on the pattern but she was in the middle of it before her store opening came up. So, she is "in process" of doing the pattern right now. Hopefully Saturday I will get more definates on that and the vest pattern.
EDIT** Fabric is in, please make sure that you all check your emails! VERY IMPORTANT ** Please read that LOOONG email and respond soon. If not, I will assume (for that those not on the seamstress list) everything that was paid for will be shipped to you Friday April 18th. If you didn't get that email, Please pm me!!! Need to know shipping details before I haul these LOOOnnng boxes to UPS.
I have updated the list to reflect ship date. Please check the first post to see if your status for ship date on the lycra is correct (for those not on the seamstress list). Please pm me any changes to what you need to the top list.
Edit**Oh, I just want to applaud my seamstress, she helped me cut the fabric, and because of her new shop, I was able to do it without having to move all my furniture around. I couldn't have done it without her help cutting all that fabric. That bulk fabric shipment was HUGE. I was as sore as a first time skier, I am THAT outta shape. Man, those huge bolts really gave me a work out. So this is bounty hunter basic training, lifting huge bolts of fabric!
Box on the left is one of the 3 boxes they shipped it in, Box on the right is what you all will be getting.
Edit2** Sorry for the 1 day delay, The usps lady at the local post office wouldn't ship my packages. Sheesh, she refused me after I took 6 long boxes, in the rain. I wish she would have gotten her facts straight. Totally pissed me off on Friday. So, I will take it to the main branch downtown Sat.
Edit3*** Good luck with your :zam's. All fabric shipments were made this morning Sat. April 19, 2003. All were shipped via USPS instead of UPS.
http://200.72.134.171/cdref/tdh/img/boxes.jpg
Sorry if some of you haven't recieved your fabric yet. I could only afford regular parcel post. Like I said in my email to you all, I will scream and holler if you all don't recieve it soon. They did say 7-10 days shipping, so.... Sorry bout that, but please let me know if you got yer fabric.
I received my fabric yesterday, on wednesday, that was really fast! It looks perfect, thanks Zam I am!
What's the deal with homeland mail? I don't get it. In both cases, they care about what goes overseas more than they do in the US. SHEASH! I am glad you got your stuff, just wish all the other homies would get theirs too!
According to USPS' tracking site, my fabric is still in MD. :lol
"Status is updated every evening." my arse. :rolleyes
Just curious Zam I Am... were the parcels insured?
um.... No.. I only insured gaeriels and my husband shipped off dallas' (on Friday) and insured his (I didn't know he did until later), but i didn't insure the others last Saturday when I shipped. I couldn't afford it for everyone's. Dallas has not recieved his either which was shipped on Friday, so I will complain to them today. If I had shipped UPS it would have costed me $35.00 per person or more, cause I would have had to repackage the stuff too. I am sorry, I didn't think of having you all pay for insurance too. I was trying to keep the costs low.
Edit** I just called, The USPS usually takes 7-10 business days, so, hopefully by the May 2nd, if you havent recieved it then there is a HUGE problem. Delivery confirmation isnt updated daily. They don't track like UPS. They just say yes, it's arrived. Sorry for the wait and my ignorance, I have never shipped large parcels before.
That's okay! I don't mind the wait (even though I'm very anxious ;) )
Thanks for letting us know they don't update daily. I won't hound the site every day then. I'll check it around May 2nd. My parents will probably call me at work when it arrives since they tend to forget when I tell them I'm expecting a package. :D :lol

According to surlygirlie, she might be recieving her fabric today. :D 2 down? 4 to go?
I did in fact get it today, and it's just lovely... now I just have to be patient and wait until I get home to unfurl the whole thing...when really I just want to spread it out all over my office.
:)
Three cheers for Yvonne!!! You are WONDERFUL and the fab is FAB! :D
Dad called and my fabric has arrived!!! :D :cheering :D :cheering :D :cheering
But then he said, "I hope it wasn't fragile..." and my heart sank.
The box was folded in half!!! :suprise And as a result the box was split open on one side.
Dad said he thinks it looks okay and he has unfolded the box.
I'll check it tonight after I get out of work!
Zipped over to my parents house after work and here's the package.

Repeating wrinkle in fabric where it was bent in half:

While the wrinkle is a tad irksome, mom and I are confidant it won't show up after we cut the fabric. :) No smudges or snags (my biggest fear) that I can see.
I'm SOOOOO happy! :D :cheering You're the greatest Zam I Am.
*hugs her fabric... her.... precioussssss..... ;) :lol *
Oh.. and the greeblie is OKAY! :)

This made me laugh, I just had to post it.Quote:

It came fine. The top part did have a rip on one side, but everything inside seems to be just fine.
They must have those apes from the old Samsonite commercial working at the post office. :lol
By the way, all those on the seamstress list will have their stuff packed in other size boxes. And the two remaining non-seamstress people-I will try to styrofoam the boxes so they don't bend. Sorry for that... I didn't know that would happen.
Hope you all got your emails labeled Seamstress issues 2, Progress pics on Wednesday hopefully. :) She had to redraft everything 3 times already because of details.
I didn't know if we all formally welcomed Zamsara into the "Fellowship." She acquired Nienumb's fabric. :D I saw her everso briefly at DragonCon. But! she was there at the TDH contest, err... was it the Star Wars contest? I can't remember...both were in the dunwoody room. Anycow, welcome, if I didn't welcome you before. :) Wish I coulda let you try on Dallas' helm and take a better gander at the rest of the parts including the neo suit. Shozbot! Gotta have a zamcon, really... Just not enuff time to talk to everyone at DragonCon about the most important costume ever! ARGHGHG! :D
Hey Girl! It was great to meet u and your hubby in person but way too brief! You looked GREAT!!!! :cheering I saw you and said "That HAS to be Zam I Am!!!" I knew that you were so very busy, didnt want to take up too much of your time. But I do wish I could have tried on the helm too, now that I think of it...hehe. So are you going to any more cons in the south any time soon? :)
Zamsara~Not really. Just doing a bunch of stuff with our local 501st.
I will be going to the local Tandy leather today 9/20 to visit, because they helped me so much with the leather products, I told them I would show up in costume :D
The crop top and welted pants: I wound up doing all the button holes and the snap for the leg greeblie, make suspenders/with buttons.
My seamstress did everything else. This is the front shot:

I did not get to see the seamstress, as she got hit really bad with the hurricane. Flooding and power outtage. I don't think it affected her store, just her house.
Yeah.... I was wondering how you guys fared back there in MD? Hope everyone is okay! :)
Thanks, we actually missed it by *that* much.(insert hairpin) Everone else got it bad. Someone was praying for us I think, cause people that got it, got it bad. No power 2 days, or more, and flooding, not to mention the trees falling on top of cars/houses etc. I had it bad right before Dragon Con! Weird how those gargantuan nature thrillers work. Most have the problems like ours, if your electricity goes off, so does your sump pump and thus your basement floods and your food goes bad. But our house didn't get hit at all, we were really fortunate.
Glad I live in Holland, we never have storms like that, although sometimes we do have floodings. Isn't it terrible to live in the knowledge that your house might be gone after the next storm?
OK all, I am going to see the seamstress today to fix the vest pattern and finally wear the suit for her to see if there are any more problem areas. This is the last and final pattern alteration that will be made.
The last people left on the list to recieve their fabric:
Dark Trooper
Maul Maus
Wookie
Zamsara
Please pm me your addresses, Projected ship date: Tues Oct 23,2004
Thanks!
Has everyone received their material or their suit?
I haven't been able to get a reply from the seamstress via email and I can't find her number.
Yvonne, I know you've got enough to deal with, so don't worry about this right now. I'm just trying to see if I'm the only one having a problem getting my stuff.
This is very frustrating to say the least!!!!!
emailed you her phone #, Last on the list is: Cutest Sandgirl's pattern (if I am not mistaken), Lady Zam, and your suit. The wait is not with me shipping- or the material, cause I already shipped ALL of that out. I got it from her studio and cut it myself. I didn't want the others to have to wait any longer. She responds best by you calling her.
Thanks for the number!
I didn't have to call her. I just received an email from her. I guess she's been having troubles with a computer virus now. It's too bad. She seems to be really having a string of bad luck. She said she's trying to get the rest of the zam stuff finished in the next couple weeks. (crosses fingers ;) )
Whow, a second run and no one told me? I see that the run was for october, if there is any room left on this list, please let me know Zam I Am
There was no second run. These people were on the first run, they were also on the seamstress list, but I decided to take them off of the seamstress list and just give them their neoprene, because the seamstress wasn't showing signs that she could handle all the orders in time for C3. I didn't want others to be waylayed. The last three people are people whom she started sewing the suits for.

Kim most likely won't have her Zam done by C3 anyway. We've basically been collecting Zam parts for like 2 years now, but because it's all a waiting game for things like the pattern, someone making the gauntlets, etc, it's not happening fast. Therefore, we've basically stalled on the Zam progress until all the main things are available, then we can start working hard on this costume.
During the time since she's starting buying parts for her Zam, she's already started and completed FOUR other costumes, and Zam still has a long time to go. :doh
I feel your pain...I've completed a few other costumes as well, Boushh being one of them (granted that still has some mods/upgrades/changes that'll need to be made too).
Seems like this Zam thing is a never ending process. ;) I'd like mine to be done by CIII, but I'm doubting it'll happen. Ah well, better late then never I suppose.
Yeah... I'm pushing hard on the Zam right now... hoping and praying it will get done by C3... but it may not! :(
C3 will be a blast in any case - though all in all, I'd rather have a Zam costume to wear! :)
WOW!!! It's been two years since we started this (ad)venture and still no suit . Yvonne, I am not in any way pointing my bony finger at you ;) I'm very upset with the seamstress though. She just keeps giving me more excuses and later deadlines. I wonder what she would do if she were in my shoes?
I am so sorry I chose her for you guys. It really reeks that it's taking so entirely long. I haven't been in touch with anything costuming related because I have been sick and nautious everyday with my pregnancy and both of us having work related problems, I haven't been able to devote anytime to Zam or other things. I have been forced to drop all costuming related projects due to this pregnancy. Please, Cutest Sandgirl, Lady Zam and Moncal, coordinate amoungst yourselves a day where all three of you CALL her and complain about your issues and tell her that the deadline of February needs to be met. You need your suits/suit patterns. Don't accept excuses, say, you have paid for your product, and waiting 2 years is really unrealistic, because you haven't been able to make any conventions with your Zam suits. Say, you've even had other projects done already in the time that you've waited. Hubby just hopes that we can even make it to C3 because of the pregnancy. I am actually 10 weeks, not one month preggo. I am sorry I am unable to help further at this point, I am scared both my husband and I may lose our jobs. The reason why I sent out all the material to everyone else on the list, is cause I don't trust her timing.
Actually this is true. We've made Kimmy 3 other costumes that she's worn to conventions during the time after she ordered from this seamstress.Quote:

We've also completed several other costumes since this one started.
The seamstress just wrote me back and said our (everyone's) suits are almost done and should ship out next week.
(CROSSES FINGERS)
...... course, I've heard it all before .......... :doh
This weekend it's snowing hard. So, hopefully your stuff will be done? You know, she's kinda locked in? I dunno. :lol I will still be shipping Lady Zam's and Cutest's patterns because I still have stuff that is owed to them that goes into the same shipment. Cal, pm sent. Cutest and Lady Z- I encourage you to bug her too, cause that way she feels the pressure and definately gets it done.
Okey dokey. :)
I almost can't believe it!!! :suprise :suprise
The suit arrived. Albeit, the post office nearly lost it but IT"S HERE!!! yay.
It's not right .... but.... it's here. I found a seamstress locally who could hopefully fix the bodice since the arms were still 5" too long and the shoulder seams were 3" down her arm.
How's everyone else's suits coming?????
Great news MonCal! :D Your Zam is really starting to come together now! You're gonna make C3 for sure! :D
My fabric is still rolled up on my work table... so I guess it's not coming along very far is it? ;)
I am selling the fabric that I bought. All interested parties should go here:
http://forums.thedentedhelmet.com/sh...9747#post99747
That's wonderful MonCal!!! :D
My fabric is still in storage at my parents house. Just waiting for a pattern... :)
Gutted i missed that fabric :( LOL Congratz whoever got it!
