Whipped this up today finally!

Udated build-up pics below

Here's my newly created braided leather bolo belt. Not to sure about the back closure, but it's screen accurate so oh well. Used 21 braids, but I'll probably be getting rid of two of them when I have time. I used the 6mm bolo from MJ Trim and the belt's width is just shy of 5.25".
The entire project took me the better part of the day, and I only had one setback.

Enjoy, and I took build-up pics if there's an interest.

Simply splendid bro, the infamous Lorenzo strikes again with this spot on beauty of a girth belt.:cheers

Your time was well spent on the quality bro, post some of the build up photos cause I'm quite certain there are plenty of folks here eager to see the beginning of this solid first rate piece.:D

Thanks guys, I'm glad it meets your approval! I'll post the build-up pics today after work. It was really quite simple and pretty easy to make.

Thanks again,

very nice.... I just printed the MJ info the other day and will be ordering some... so nice to see the finished product :)

Looks awesome.

What's "MJ" stand for? I'm still very new to the Fett costume world. I would love to take a crack at making something like that for myself.

Thanks again guys. I'm humbled by your comments.

I'll post the pics and they're pretty much self explanatory. But I will say that I did sand down each braid strip with 100 grit sand paper to rough up the surface and smooth out the edges because the glue wasn't sticking as well in the test-runs with scrap pieces. I also did test-runs with glues like Goop(fabric), E6000, & Superglue(gel and liquid); and none of them performed as well as Tandy's LeatherCraft Cement where the viscosity of it seemed to penetrate the leathers better. And I also used two types of leathers on the belt: leather piece taken from an old bomber jacket on the inside, and 2-3 oz belly hide on the closure edges and cover.

Ashaman, here you go http://www.mjtrim.com/

Any questions, let me know.
Thanks,
Cruzer

Thanks for the comments guys, always happy to help.

Tk-938, it's a strip of 1/8" sintra cut 2.25" wide. I heated it up on one end, folded it over onto itself in a half circle, superglued and bondo'd it to close the gap, and then trimmed the sides at angles.(y)

Things I'd do differently next time:
1. move the circle pieces of leather(with the snaps for the holsters) closer towards the middle because the snaps get in the way when I've got this thing on and I'm trying to push the cover piece over when taking the belt off.

2. use the accurate 4 ply 6mm leather cord, but I'm too lazy to braid it right now. I did find this place in India that has it, but I emailed them and they replied with a minimum order of 500 yards at $170 per 100 yards. What would I do with 500 yards of this stuff. :confused

Make a bunch of belts for your brothers here? Just one idea. Or get a bunch of people together and order the stuff so people can make it them self. How many yards does it take to make a single belt?

You know Predatormv, that's a good idea, and I thought about that today and tried to figure out the totals. At that price it comes out to approximately $45 for 25 yards(which is how much it takes for a person with a waist of 39" in costume). That's about a third of the cost of the MJtrim stuff and plus it's more accurate. But it would take a gibuttload of people commiting with cash cuz the purchase would be about $900 with shipping.

I know of one person who has contacted me and I've agreed to make another belt for them, and I would be good for another belt, but who else would be interested?

Here's the website link to the stuff, and the lady who replied said they could provide it in a 6mm 4 ply medium-brown color.

Is there enough interest???
