plastic welding shield. Think it's #3 shade
I used a #5 shade... it is very dark green, almost black
how well can i see in an area with low light if i use a shade 5?
Shade 5 is too dark for my liking. BM makes great visors, IMO.
yeah, but I like how dark it is... but I see how someone may not like it
I have Shade 3 and Shade 5 for my stormtrooper. Shade 5 are for outdoor events, shade 3 indoor. If you have shade 5 indoor, you can't see a thing in front of you.
Shade 5 is what I use
thanks to everyone whose responding,
alll the face shields i find are green, does that make a difference?
Shade 5 dark green looks black from the outside
hmm well im going to be using this not only indoors but most likely at night, so i guess shade 3 would probly be best huh?
I use a shade 3 with cling on window tint on the inside.Darkens it up but can see out of it better than the shade 5. JMHO
I did an indoor event yesterday with my shade #5... it looked ok to me... once my eyes were adjusted it was fine... I have thought about getting a shade #3 along with my #5 and just taking the chicago screws out and switching them for different events.
yeah i think i am just going to go with two different shades
seems to be the easiest and best bet
I've been using shade 5 since I started costuming. Try to stay away from the ugly hunter green shade. Go with the more olive green.
With shade 5, your eyes will adjust easily. I never had a problem.
Here's the kind that I have always used.
Optical-grade .060” thick polycarbonate from extruded sheets or injection molded resin provides superior secondary impact protection and increased scratch resistance Available molded or flat Clear, IR/UV 3.0, IR/UV 5.0

Yes your eyes do adjust pretty quick with the #5, but then you take your helmet off and you are blind for a second, lol ;)
i guess ill just have to live with my helmet on huh?
Have they ever determined which shade is canon?
I believe the movie accurate one is smoked acrylic, but for helmet making purposes, the welding shields work better... I think both are considered canon though.
