    verbal21's helmet WIP

i've been working on this for a while, unfortunately i haven't been able to give it as much attention as i would like so it's taken longer; but it's getting closer.

here's some pictures of how it's coming along.

the raw helmet fresh out the box.

here's the excess resin "skirt" cut off, i thought it looked really cool.

started getting things sanded down. this is at the 800 grit stage i think.

at this point i've sanded it down with 1000 grit, and taped it off, as you can see.

    that's my neighbor modeling.

i've gotten a bit farther along on this, i just haven't taken any pictures in the last few days. it's been primed, bondo'd, re-primed with filler primer, and the krylon ocean blue has been painted. tomorrow i'll take a few more pics, then tape off the ocean blue and apply the rustoleum royal blue.

Question, do not not have the blue and silver colors backwards?

So after you sand down the Metal finish look, then you tape off and make the area to be painted as smooth as possible with primer and bondo???

    Bondo??
Not that I'm aware of... I'm sure next stage is masking for the first layers of paint to be applied.
But not my place to say...

Ok i was just reading off the thread that it had been primed, bondo'd, re-primed with filler primer, and the krylon ocean blue has been painted.

Just wondered where the bondo was applied?

here's why i used bondo. after i taped off everything that i wanted to stay silver, i primered the visor area, ears, brow, etc. there's something about primer that really makes all the imperfections stand out. so i used bondo spot filler to fill in all the litttle nicks and scratches that i accidentally cut around the visor area with the dremel. it was the worst along the the lip of the mandible and around the "squint," so a little bondo, sanding it all smooth again, and a coat of filler primer (to fill in the smallest of the pin holes) and it was ready to get some color on it.

welp... here it is. as finished as i am capable of. i am going to miss this helmet when it goes to it's new home, to me this is a work of art. it's so much nicer than the one i did for myself, and a lot of people really liked that one. so less talk and more pictures.
