Tubachris BKBT Completed

To secure them in place use the plumbers putty. It comes in a little stick(walmart) and you knead the desired amount together to mix it and then press a small amount into the hole and press that magnet in fast! And scrap off excess putty before it sets. Use water for clean up and dip your fingers in the water when using it so it doesn't stick to you:) Your helmet looks awesome!

Hey, thanks for the suggestion, but I jactually fixed the magnet issue awhile ago, just never posted it up. I really do appreciate your recommendation though.

I had a blast goin as my un-creative "Punk" Fett for this past week.
My first outing was at FYO rehearsal, where they had a halloween party and a costume contest, not a major one, but my first one, lol, got 2nd. Next one was the next day (halloween) at school, freaked some people out. I got the "look, it's Boba Fett!" At one point, I just wanted to wear a cardboard sign around my neck, reading "It's Jango buddy...." That night was great, stopped by at a Coldstone for some Ice cream. No worker was at the counter, and a women came out of the kitchen, saw me, and yelled "Oh my Go(sh), were're being robbed!" Aside from that, alot of people loved it, and had no problems with people messing with it. I think most of them were just afraid, because of the "cold stare" look, that the helmet naturally has.

So that was my first experience out on the town behind the visor. Was soooooooooo humid though, I need to upgrade to a larger fan too. And I have decided to try and finish off a whole suit now. May not happen yet, but I have plans too in the not too distant future.

Thanks. The fan system right now isnt perfect, I mean, theres nothing wrong with the fan, its just too small to generate enough cool air through it. I need to just get a bigger one, the good thing is that it pretty much all the fans operate on the same power source of 12v. I only added the fan because I had no other purpous for it, and I used it to get some soddering/electrical experience.

Ah, the paint job, I think it came out well, even though I did it 13 times....
I like this last time better, because it has a light glaze over it, as you can see in the pics, makes it "shiny." However, its not perfect either, but ite the best I could do.

I just wanted to comment on the pin stripes. Ive noticed that some people make the spaceing wider then the actual helmet, but I dunno the actual distance between stripes. I used the cover of the episode 2 visual dictionary.

Well, it looks awesome. How did the armor turn out? I've been thinking about the trash can armor. I'm a big guy so if I make my own I can make it to fit. I've seen some big dudes in little armor and it just does look right.

I had made out the armor pieces, and was gonna do paintball vest out of it, but I havent played in about a year. Alan was kind enough to resize the Boba templates for me, and it came out proportional, and looks great. However, I had some issues with the vest, and I just decided to save the armor pieces for another projsect if I could ever get a wearable vest.

Looks good Chris. (y)

Thank you, I really appreciate the comments from everyone. Feedback is always good. Dont hesitate to critizize or suggest making a suggestion to improve something, I am always willing to accept recommendations and critiques from the professionals, to me, the non-pro. Thanks again.

Quick question... And I may have missed the answer... But did the stalk come sunken like that for the screw? I had a Boba stalk from him, and it wasn't like that. How did you go about doing it, if it wasn't stock... Or was it...?

Hey, the method I currently have to hold together the Stalk is pretty simple. The stalk I recieved from BKBT did not come like it is now. I was firtunate enough to use countersink bits on it. Since its made of Alumminum, its a soft metal, and I was able to use the countersink bits with a drill to make a hole large enough around the already existing hole to drop down a screw/bolt that I found. I have picture of the whole set up on my progress thread if you want to take a look. The thread is titled, "It has Begun." Hope this helps

Cool... I'll have to check my cousins garage for those bits... I mooch all of his tools. ;)

Anymore trouble from the magnet system? I was thinking about attaching some posts to the ear cap and then drilling all the way through the helmet and holding it on with o-rings, but if the magnets are holding, then I'll go that way instead.

BTW, the helmet looks awesome and you did a great job. (y)

Thank you for the compliment. As of right now, the magnets are holding very well. However, I may offer advice, the alignment of the magnets on the removable piece, to the stationary one, have to be exact, and has been causing the most trouble with me. What I did first which, I should have done last, was epoxied the magnets in the holes on the stationary side. This made it much harder for me to try and get alignment. What I tried doing to get alignment, was epoxy the magnets on the removable piece, and then put it where the earcap piece goes on the helmet to align the magnets together, however, the epoxy takes forever to dry, and when I pulled the earcap off, the magnets remained in the holes. What I should have done first, was drilled the holes, epoxy the magnets on the removable earcap, and align them with the holes, so that when the magents slide, but still stick, I can then take off the earcap without fear of them staying in the holes. Get it? LOL, trying to explain this the best way I can. But right now, one magnet came off due to my own fault, but the other two are staying on perfectly and holds considerably well, even without a third magnet. I highly suggest the magnets if you get it to work, halloween, it actually impressed people when I had to take it off to tighten up the RF screw.

Oh yea, I went out and bought a paper towel holder from "Linens and things," works well, but I just need to balance out the helmet so I can have it centered without weight compinsation.

What I plan on doing is putting both magnets in the helmet side (but only gluing one)... Then when the helmet side magnet is dry, I'll put a drop of superglue on the other magnet, then line up the earcap and press it on. Its just has to be pretty much dead on first try.

I know that the superglue may not hold the magnet. When/if it comes off, it should leave a nice mark as to where the magnet was... So it should be no problem to refasten.

Either that, or I'll just stick to the post/oring idea... The Protocol bucket that I'm converting may not be thick enough in the ear section to hold the 2 magnets. How thick would you say that the ear section has to be to hold both magnets?

EDIT-

Sorry, I kinda derailed the thread... Go ahead and PM me a reply, that way you can get back to receiving feedback on your sweet bucket. ;)

Dropped ya a PM. I forgot to expand on the "stand" I bought. I will post pictures, I would have last night, but my internet was messed up, and I was doing dial-up. I want to show the paper towel holder so that ohers will get an idea of what they can use. The BKBT is an especially large helmet, and this worked very well. Was hard to find something that would. Makes for a really nice display......now, where to put it....

Heres the picture of the stand that I recently obtained, hope this helps anyone who may be trying to find one.

Awesome stand... You said thats a paper towel rack? Thats exactly the look I was gonna go for, but I was gonna hack one of those small $10 lamps apart.

I got this thing at Linens-N-Things. You'd be surprised what they sell for paper towel racks, I was certainly surprised. It makes a really nice stand as you can see. It has a very heavy, and sturdy base, with a no slip pad undernieth. However worth it to me, it was $20, but also had a discount coupon;)
