    There is no Antrock helmet

The so-called "Antrock helmet" is actually my helmet re-cast by Antrock. About a year ago, I let him pull a set of molds from my origionals. He had no part in it's construction. He wasn't even around when the origional model was built, only to pull a copy of the mold. After Ep. II, there was a flood of demand for these, and I was a little overwealmed. I let Antrock run a duplicate set of molds of my helmet AND armor, to ease the burden. I just wanted to clear things up, cause I'm getting tired of explaining it in pm's. I'm not trying to incinuate that he's claiming it's his own work or anything, just trying to correct the misunderstandings.

Thanks for clearing that up. I own one of your helmets but bought it from Antrock and I was unsure if Antrock himself had made it. I knew that both of you were involved in it somehow, but the details were not made clear.

Thanks for clearing that up, JD. Until recently, I too was led to believe (mostly by rumors, old posts, and assumptions) that there was an "Antrock helmet" out there.

I think it's important for all of us to be aware of where proper credit is due, and I'm glad you came forward with details of the helmet's true origins!

I already ordered one from Antrock last week... I would have ordered from you instead if I'd known!.. but now I'll know who to credit with the actual mold design.

Can you state for the record what the actual mods of the "Dwedd" bucket are? I know it's more than just a DP 95 recast but could you be more specific?

    Thanks.

Well, I think mods aren't the right word. I took a fiberglass copy of the DP '95 dome only, and reshaped it. Once I was happy with the dome, the rest was built completely anew around it, using JANGO photos from SW Insider and Vanity Fair. All the details and shape were created using these photos for referance. The finished helmet actually ended up being a bit larger than the DP.

    Here's a pic of one I finished.

If you have a DP, compare for yourself. Hope this helps.

I don't suppose you could post a comparison pic to show the differences, eh? Some things to watch for:

    >Jango's keyslot area is a bit deeper and higher off the bottom.

    >The raised blue areas behind the ears of Jango are also higher off the bottom than the red ones of Boba.

    >In a profile view, you can see the back of a Jango helmet is straighter and flairs out slightly. Bobas has a soft, inward curve toward the bottom.

    >When looking at A Jango helmet from the back, both sets of ears are visible. DP helmets must be wider in back or something, cause it seems you can't see both ears at the same time.

    >Jango has no borden connector on the cheek.

There are pics of both my DP95 and JD helmet next to a MSH2 in the MSH2 comp pics thread.

Nice shots. To me, it doesn't look any bigger than the DP '95. I was told by a few other members, who had both, that it was a little bigger than the '95.
    Oh well, I stand corrected

    Thanks for the lead.

Re: There is no Antrock helmet !

Ok, I now understand how this helmet is "slightly bigger" than a DP '95. The additional flair(back + sides) makes the opening quite a bit larger than the DP. All I know, is that it's perfectly proportioned for ME! (5' 10")
That's all I was concerned with when it was being built.

I'm in the process of constructing a JD helmet myself. I like it alot better than the '95 DP I had. The only thing I have noticed for me at least is the way I have to put it on. I have to do a 15 or 20 degree twist to put it on, I think my head is big for some reason. LOL

Did you have to do the same twist with your DP 95?

No, the JD's flare in the mandibles pulls the front of the helmet about 3/8 " closer to my face.

Maybe there's hope for me after all. I had to do the exact same twist to get my recast on but my regular DP95 arrives this week and I'm hoping she'll fit.

If you ever decide to improve your helmet JD I have a couple of suggestions.

    1. Narrow the Vertical part of the T-Visor in between the mandibles.
    2. Reshape the cheeks. As it stands now they seem a little bit too high and aren't very well defined. That is something I think could be fixed fairly easily.

I think you may be right about those subtle corrections, however, I have so many other projects to attend to, that I think I'll just have to live with it as is. As it stands, there's some very accurate Boba helmets out there, but this is probably the most accurate helmet available (size, shape, and details) for Jango.

Yeah its a great helmet, I just wanted to give my input on what could be improved if you ever did version 2.0. If I knew how to correct the T-Visor, I would do it myself.

That's easy! make the plexi visor narrower, and draw the mandibles in some. They'll easily flex to accomidate this mod.

I tried it like that, didn't seem to work too well. I don't want to force the mandibles inward like that, plus when you do that it doesn't line up with the top part of the t-visor area. Also I replaced the Plexi visor. It's way too see-thru. I got a shade 3 welding visor instead.

Oh yeah, I forgot, you got it from Antrock. I think he uses bondo as a surface layer instead of gel-coat.

Was it pink when you got it?

I'm feeling this should be in the Jango section, unless there Boba Fett versions of this helmet.

I own one of these from judz himself and I have to say it is a great helm. After painting it up I am more than pleased with the results. Not much prep work at all, and the visor included in the kit I got from judz was more than dark enough. Thanks for the great helmet!

Was it antrock who put in the Radio Shack laser beam and motion to the rangefinder? I think he mentioned you as the sculpter of the helmet in that thread, but I am not sure.

There really is no Antrock helmet!

I ordered one from Antrock FOUR weeks ago to compare his workmanship to Judz Dwedd's, and I haven't been able to get ahold of him for almost two weeks now! Judz Dwedd, on the other hand, delivered his helmet in a week, fast and friendly, and it's VERY nice! Thanks again for the great work JD. I can't wait to get started on it!

I'll let you all know if Antrock ever comes through, but he's hangin' on to my money in the mean time. Beware!

Thanks JF and Porkins. Yes, I did a rangefinder with a laser and illuminated targeting recticle. Unfortunately, Radio Shack no longer carries the laser modules. I'll see if I can put up a new pic in the old thread, since all the pics there are now gone.

I just stumbled across this old post by accident and realized I never updated it. Antrock never came through on the helmet, but he DID return my payment eventually. Meanwhile, I've been working on my JD helmet, and I love the way it's turning out so far. I'll post progress pics when I have enough to make it worth everyone's while. Thanks again to JD and others for their sound advice so far!

Hey Judz. Just wanted to ask about this helmet. What colors did you use? I noticed that there's a black rectangle painted around the vents in the back side. How did you treat this?

I found a guy close buy who's going to build a motor for my range finder stalk so it moves up and down. I'm pretty happy with mine so far. It's slow going but I want it as perfect as I can get it. My biggest problem is getting the T visor to fit snugly against the helmet.

Re: There is no Antrock helmet !

The "black rectangle" as it apears in the pics, is the weathering in the keyslot's recessed area. the photo doesn't show it very well.
Colors?, the one to the left is run in polished white gelcoat, with the visor and cheeks painted black and gray.
    <-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------/

For the JANGO colors, I used Plasticote automotive medium silver for the base, Krylon true blue satin for the visor and band area, and navy blue satin & royal blue dusted together for the cheeks, ears, and rf.
As for getting the visor just right, it's a pain in the drain. Just ask anyone who's done it. You could always get a welding shield and not use the plexi. It may be easier to instal, but it doesn't keep the front of the helmet as ridged.

As a proud owner of your helmet, I must say I much prefer the welding shield to the plexi that came with mine. The plexi is too thick, too hard to trim, and too see-through. I got a shade 5 welding shield. Nobody can see in, I was able to make the T-Visor narrower, and with just hot glue it stuck in really well.

Remember Foxbat, you didn't get it from me. Antrock got his plexi from a different source than I. I'm not sure what thickness or shade HE supplied.
