Solo's OS Jango Build

Solo

Jr Hunter
Haven't updated my build thread in a while in the custom area. I started working last fall on my Harley and finally got it to a point where I can now migrate back to my Mando. Wanted to move the thread here now that it is becoming an official Jango.

From the beginning the plan was to switch this out from a custom to the Open Seasons version of Jango.

I've gotten the shoulders, gaunts, and portions of the helmet painted to the appropriate color. Cruzer suggested Dupli-Color Electric Current Red with his original build so I went with that.

I also have almost completed the girth belt. I stripped the rope that I originally used and applied the braided leather that I had picked up from someone last year. Still have a few things I need to do to finish it up but the hard part is done.

Dyed the flight suit to get it a couple if shades darker. Pretty happy with how that turned out. It's always sketchy adding dye to something. You just never know how light or dark it's going to end up...

Have an ammo belt coming in from Seeker to replace the black ammo belt made by him last year that I have. (Will post it up for sale soon.)

Gonna start working on the jetpack. I've kind of dreaded that part since I picked it up. I've considered just selling it for a good price and then picking up a MoW pack... Here's some updated pics.

Next biggest issue is how to attach the leg armor to the suit. I have snaps and straps already in place on the armor but I don't like how that looks at all. I also have velcro attached but it doesn't pull the armor in close to the leg. I am open to suggestions if anyone has them... I am really stuck on how best to do this.

Attach elastic straps to the inside of the shins via snaps. Cut a 2 holes in your suit. Run the strap through your suit. Be sure the holes will be hidden under the shins. Dont set the straps to the edge of the shin. I's go about 2" in,this allows some adjustment to hide the holes. I did the knees the same way.

Thanks bro. I've seen some posts of people doing that and it makes sense. However, do you end up attaching the shins, knees, and thighs before you put the jump suit on or do you end up struggling to thread it through after you have the suit on?

I'm sure everyone is different, but I developed a tool for pulling the straps through the jumpsuit. It's a curved piece of styrene with a snap on the end of it. I put the strip through the leg hole, snap the strap to it and pull it back out through the other side and snap it to the leg armor.

Nice! Wouldn't have thought of that. Something as simple as a strip of styrene or abs would probably work great for that! May give that a try.

I put on the jumpsuit up to my waist, so I can sit on the edge of a chair. I put on my shoes, strap on the shins, pull up the jumpsuit, then step into my hloster/cod/thigh assembly.

I put mine on exactly like Jango5204 stated... start from the bottom up, boots, shins, knees, thighs, then boot armor and the rest.

When you guys cut the holes in your jumpsuit, did you do it by adding button stitching with a sewing machine or did you just cut slits directly in them or some other way? I would think that just cutting slits in the jumpsuit would eventually lead to tearing or fraying over time. Maybe adding super glue to the edges of the cut would prevent fraying but I am not sure.

Your descriptions of how to do this is totally what I was looking for!

Some people put patches (stickon kind) on the inside of the flightsuit and cut slits, others (such as myself) just do button hole stiching with a sewing machine... there is no right or wrong answer, but I would tend to agree that just cutting slits will lead to tearing.

Love the OS rig...In love with the bike!!!
Armor's looking good bro. Keep up the great work.
What year is the bike by the way? I'm guessing a fatboy by the rear rim. I miss my '01 heritage I had to get rid of when my daughter was born.

You're original OS was the inspiration for my OS rig. Wouldn't have considered it if I hadn't see how good yours looked. It was fantastic...

And yes it's a '92 Fatboy! I love the carb'd bikes as opposed to EFI models. Worked on it most of the winter trading out for a denim black paint job, putting on a stretched tank and orignial fenders, switching to drag bars, switching the wheels around, new pipes, etc., etc. It was cool doing almost all the work myself. It's almost like having a Jango... it just doesn't end! ;-)

So far the wife is ok with it and actually likes it so I am going to hold on to it while I can. I am sure you'll have another before long. Once you have one it's hard not to go back.

Picked up some of the paint you (and Cruzer) suggested... I was trying hard to figure out which one to go with and saw this... I will hopefully have my OS Jango to go along with my EPII Jango and be here with you and Cruzer.

Nice Tony! Have any pics of your progress so far? Can't wait to see them. Please feel free to make suggestions too if you see me going off the deep end on my build.

I would recommend going a tad darker on the silver areas. Maybe using one of the paints meant for Chrome, if there's one that'll give you a smoked finish. If I remember correctly, the OS armor also has a somewhat bluish hue.
