Well, with a busy schedule, becoming the new CO in my garrison and a little sleep somewhere in between, I've found a little time to begin work on my version 2 Jango Fett.
I started out with my new MOW's, which are very nice and not as big as my original MOW's!
The story:
After half a year of these babies sitting on my shelf I finally primered them, rub n' buffed them and added all the weathering to the left gauntlet. The right one isn't finished yet. Still need to add darts. As for hoses, well, I have to go buy more and not let them sit in the dye bath for so long.
I ended up drilling out the little switch under the rocket and replaced it with a "slide" switch from radio shack so that it functioned to turn the LED light on and off. I accidentally broke a section off the area under the rocket and had to fix it. I poured resin underneath to patch up the area and just let it run freely along the inside to reinforce the thin shell. I'm going to do this with both gauntlets as they are starting to crack.
Disclaimer: This in no way reflects MOW's craftsmanship. These are very nicely made props and I just want to reinforce them so I don't have to worry about any more incidental damage.
The pictures aren't the greatest, but hey, I build houses for a living, not take photographs or portraits!
I used gold leaf rub n' buff for the tip and the cone of the rocket:
Below you can see the switch to the left with the LED turned off:
Below you can see a close up with the switch pushed to the right turning the LED on:
Here you see the inside with the rigging. I used a regular red led light in its housing/mount and wired it to the slider switch and then to a small 12 volt battery. You can see all the resin. A piece of black tape on the left was used to dam up the resin to hold the piece that I broke off while cutting/drilling out the "switch". Resin was mixed and poured to make the repair permanent and the rest was used to reinforce the gauntlet along the length of the shell. You can see the switch box glued to the side. The small switch is protruding through the other side.
Well, I hope you enjoyed this little tour. I have yet to install the grappling dart and mini darts to the other gauntlet, reinforce the gauntlets, get new hoses and dye them and attach them for the gauntlets to be complete. Then I'll move on to new shoulder armor, compliments of JD. After that I'll work on the shins so they don't droop while I wear the costume. Aside from that, a few more tweaks and maybe if I'm lucky I'll find a real pair of Westars. I like my budget resin blasters just fine, but a nice shiny chrome set is just what the doctor ordered. I'd also love to be able to add servos to make my rangefinder stalk move up and down. But it's aluminum and too heavy. I'll post more as I make significant progress. Thanks for looking.
