    Skalen Fehl Unleashed

Well, after about 16 months of searching, buying, building, going in debt, making a mess of my basement, losing sleep, etc. My Jango is finally reaching the finish line. I still have to tweak here, trim there, and put the finishing touches. I hope I have done the dented helmet gang proud. It is my honor to present to you my almost final version of Jango:

Edit: Woops, I thought I was in the Jango forum. Could a moderator please move this there? By the way, these photos were taken today at our garrison's fundraiser for Katie, the 501st Legion Commander's daughter. You can visit http://www.forkatie.org for more info.

    Re: Skalen Fehl Unleashed

Thank you. The armor is not RA. It's JD. The jumpsuit is actually made from a postal blue Red Cap jumpsuit and another Red Cap lab coat used for extra sleeves with the sleeves modified for the placement of front and back seams. It was all taken in, trimmed, pockets removed, button holes added for leg straps and under the sleeves at the top, back pack clips were sewn on to attach the gauntlets. The gauntlets, however are man o' wars. The boots are reinone and the leatherwork was done by a local craftsman according to mupltiple images from the Jango Fett Reference CD, including complimentary snaps for the boots. I crafted the cod loop with a piece of pvc pipe cut in half and the two curves cut on a downward angle and glued to a flat piece of sintra and attached to the braided belt. The vest was hand sewn by a talented gal in my garrison and the hoses were from a contractor's supply store that I have an account with, since I'm a contractor. The knee darts aren't accurate, but I can unscrew them and put in knew ones anytime. The only thing I lack is a neckpiece, red led light for the one gauntlet, a jet pack (getting a loaner for CIII), and that's about it. Man what a ride this has been.

Really, really nice. I love the shine on the armor with the slight weathering. You look right on!

Truly outstanding, Marc! That really does look amazing!!! All the hard work
has paid off. TK409 is right... the shine to weathering ratio is perfect on the armor.

****, that just really looks fantastic! The armor placement on the chest is perfect! Let's leave this here a few days for everyone to see then remind me to move it to Jango. My only suggestions are get a balaclava so your neck doesnt show and change out your gauntlet hoses- there is a recipe for dying clear ones and they turn out real nice. It is in the official gauntlet thread I believe. Aside from those 2 things, (oops, and no jet pack) you look outstanding!

Very good that is awesome, I like the way the lower half look alot. All the armor is placed perfectly and looks exact to me. All you need is a jet pack.

Yeah man and for the gaunlet light, when I did my Jango a while back, I got an appropriate sized LED and the LED housing cover from Radio Shack. They also had a Blinking led pack that was powered by 2 AA batteries. It was about the size of a pager and was 4 bucks and had a super bright led flash, so what i did was clip the diodes of the big led and placed it over the litle one on the pack ang attached it to the gauntlet. Looked awesome. It lasts for about 7 hours so you could definately use it for troopin.

    Re: Skalen Fehl Unleashed

Wow, thank you all for the compliments. I can truly aprreciate the time, research and effort that everyone has put into this site and their costumes. Chris, Preston: I spent hours and hours in front of my reference CD images on my computer just to match up the color and weathering. It's not exact, some a little personalized, but pretty darn close. Mirax, I do have a balaclava, but it's a terrible royal blue color. I'm going to sew a custom neck piece to go around my neck and up my jaw line out of the rest of that extra lab coat material. I'll look up that hose dying thread. Mine are too blue and need work. I'm holding out for a special jet pack that will knock everyone's socks off. That will be a little while. Thanks to JD for awesome armor, (shoulders are a little to curved but that's okay ), Reinone for awesome boots, my mother in law for takin in my jumpsuit, adding extra sleeves, tolerating my pickiness, my wife for tolerating my messes, and spending too much money, and of course to all my friends here at TDH, and the time they took along the way to answer my questions and help me along. I hope I can be of help to others who are new and be counted as able to share my wisdom and experience. Cheers!

Awesome! Looks really good and as mentioned before, the finish on the metal looks great.

Just gotta put something to hide your neck and you are good to go. Great work. Patience pays off.

I'm going to have to stop looking at any Jango threads. Every time I look at one, I see something like this that makes me want to start another costume before I finish my Boba. Great job.

Wow . I do not know if my Jango would be as accurate as yours, Seekers or Mirax.

However the general public knows I am Jango. But back to you. Your suit is

freaking flawless. The armor stole the show for me good job! And have fun at CIII.

By yhe way, which Jet Pack will you have at CIII?

Thank you webchief and lilburndiablo. It is a huge compliment to be compared to SEEKER and Mirax. They and others paved the way for us and set the standard for us to follow.

For CIII I'll be wearing the primary jet pack :jet pack; a loaner from a good friend, that is, if I can get to him before I leave. Otherwise I'll be jet packless, but who cares, I'm going to have a lot of fun.

    Re: Skalen Fehl Unleashed

    Thanks, Geo and Cutest_Sandgirl.

Mirax, I looked around for that hose dying thread to no avail. Is it something I can do in less than an hour? That would be about all I need after tonight.

Anyway, I just finished weathering my loaner jet pack. I just may end up buying it. I really haven't had a chance to see how accurate it is but I think it's close. I noticed two different images in the visual dictionary and they don't match. I see a couple of differences. A stunt version perhaps? Anyway, I guess I'm about finished. Just have to make a neck seal or else just wear my royal blue balaclava to cover up my neck .

I may end up crafting new shoulder armor pieces. They don't fit my vest correctly, too much of a curve. The vest shoulders aren't accurate either, but I think it's good for now. I'm dang tired. I had hoped to hear a review from the best Jango around, el numero uno, SEEKER. He has been my main inspiration and motivation to go the extra mile.

Yeah, I believe it was navy blue that you dye them in, let me see if I can't find it for you right quick. Oh, suggestion for the neck- I bought a white turtleneck, dyed it and cut a dickie out of it - works great cause it doesn't slip down cause it is a turtleneck!

Lookin good Skalen. I did the same thing with my red kap postal blue suit. Sew a strip of extra material to go around your neck in the front and have it open and close with a velcro closure

    Great work

jenchuan! I haven't seen you around for a while. Hope you're doing well. Looking forward to meeting you.

Mirax, thanks for the tips and the thread. On the photo, the hoses look solid blue. They are actually clear with blue crossthreading. I'm going to upgrade those as well. I ended up making a neck seal by cutting a large strip from the lab coat and using velcro. The thing wraps around my neck and closes in back. I like the dickie idea. Might try that after CIII.

Thanks OPPI. You're armor is coming along nicely too. Hope you got the jet pack all sorted out. It was a task positioning mine just right. Only the buckles show betweent he jet pack and the backplate. That's how it ended up to have just the right height and angle.

The armor was boxed and shipped off with my garrison CO who just hit the road for CIII. I'll be packing now and leave very early tomorrow morning and arrive in the afternoon.

Thank you all for the support, compliments, and advice. I'll post a lot more pics and what/how I did it after CIII.

Finally got a bunch of pics of my Jango taken. I still have some work to do. I don't like how my shins hang down over my boot armor. Other minor tweaks and I'll be happy. Below are pictures of how I've constructed my costume:

Well, with patience, hard work, a little luck, lots of money, and a lot of friends here, you can do it. I still gotta look into that CD for you. I haven't forgotten. Lately I've been getting pm's from friends here and other forums for items for Jango and other costumes. I'll let you know asap. Thank you for the compliments.

Thanks MandalorFett. Yup, that's an original screen prop from the set. A friend of mine was extremely lucky to come across it. There were two types of props used. The ones that the main actors wore, like Apollo, Starbuck, etc, with the lights. Then there were the extra props that just looked pretty on the bunker shelves, etc. Those did not light up. They were on tight budgets.

I'm also old enough to remember watching the series from it's debut. I must have been in about the 3rd or 4th grade. Good times!!

I've been tempted to build a Colonial Viper Pilot costume but I'd end up spending too much money and my wife says one genre is enough. I tend to agree.

JangoUri, yep, JD all the way. Pm replied to.

Thanks for the reply. A few questions dude:

Is the armor glued to the jumpsuit or you used velcro? If you used velcro, could you post some pics without the armor attached? Just to see how much cuantity of velcro did you use. (wall mart velcro?)

And how did you cut the armor pieces from the mold? Dremel maybe?

And Iīm wondering, how did you made the two helmet "lines" (is that the correct word?)

    thanks =-)

I used industrial velcro that I bought at a fabric store. Not the type with the sticky back, but the kind that you sew on. I used two different brands because I ran out of one. But for the armor, I did use the type with the sticky back and applied superglue before sticking it to the armor for extra strength.

I used a dremmel to cut and trim the armor with cutting discs. Actually I cheated. I have a ton of tools, since I'm a contractor. One of my tools is a Roto-zip. I put a cutting wheel on it because it was a lot faster than my dremmel. Using that took a lot more control, though due to the very high rpm's.

The two helmet lines were made by using auto pinstriping that I bought at my local "Autozone". It's an auto parts store. I believe I used 1/8" pinstripes. Hope this helps.

    Re: Skalen Fehl Unleashed

I bought the dark grey material from a fabric store. The ref CD of the movie costume has the vest a sort of blueish grey. I've never seen black used in the movie or in reference images. Perhaps scenes where it's dark, makes it look black.

The Visual dictionary definitely shows a grayish color, but the above photo seems to have bluish tinges. There have been debates about different colors in different lighting as well. I used what was closest to the pictures and what was available to me, which was at a local fabric store called Hancock. Hope this helps a little.

    Hmmmmmmm..........
Is it just me, or does the flak jacket color resemble almost exactly to the gloves? Call me crazy, but I remember seeing the "star fortress production prop" gloves on another thread, and the match the color of the flak jacket. Here are the gloves that I saw..tell me if im wrong

Now compare the color to the flak jacket......

Well, I may be wrong, but my eyes aren't decieving me. Perhaps this can answer the debate about it.

Well tubachris, those are my "starfortress gloves" and you must know those gloves are the crappest thing anyone can ever get. When I said they are "screen accurated" I was just joking . They are so bad that i posted some pics of them.

Jango gloves are really more dark

With all the excitement with photoshoots I decided to do a little one of my own. I'm no pro with photography or photoshop, but I'm still learning. This is my new desktop wallpaper (1024x768 ). Hope you like it.

    Re: Skalen Fehl Unleashed

Well, with a busy schedule, becoming the new CO in my garrison and a little sleep somewhere in between, I've found a little time to begin work on my version 2 Jango Fett.

I started out with my new MOW's, which are very nice and not as big as my original MOW's!

    The story:

After half a year of these babies sitting on my shelf I finally primered them, rub n' buffed them and added all the weathering to the left gauntlet. The right one isn't finished yet. Still need to add darts. As for hoses, well, I have to go buy more and not let them sit in the dye bath for so long.

I ended up drilling out the little switch under the rocket and replaced it with a "slide" switch from radio shack so that it functioned to turn the LED light on and off. I accidentally broke a section off the area under the rocket and had to fix it. I poured resin underneath to patch up the area and just let it run freely along the inside to reinforce the thin shell. I'm going to do this with both gauntlets as they are starting to crack.

Disclaimer: This in no way reflects MOW's craftsmanship. These are very nicely made props and I just want to reinforce them so I don't have to worry about any more incidental damage.

The pictures aren't the greatest, but hey, I build houses for a living, not take photographs or portraits!

I used gold leaf rub n' buff for the tip and the cone of the rocket:

Below you can see the switch to the left with the LED turned off:

Below you can see a close up with the switch pushed to the right turning the LED on:

Here you see the inside with the rigging. I used a regular red led light in its housing/mount and wired it to the slider switch and then to a small 12 volt battery. You can see all the resin. A piece of black tape on the left was used to dam up the resin to hold the piece that I broke off while cutting/drilling out the "switch". Resin was mixed and poured to make the repair permanent and the rest was used to reinforce the gauntlet along the length of the shell. You can see the switch box glued to the side. The small switch is protruding through the other side.

Well, I hope you enjoyed this little tour. I have yet to install the grappling dart and mini darts to the other gauntlet, reinforce the gauntlets, get new hoses and dye them and attach them for the gauntlets to be complete. Then I'll move on to new shoulder armor, compliments of JD. After that I'll work on the shins so they don't droop while I wear the costume. Aside from that, a few more tweaks and maybe if I'm lucky I'll find a real pair of Westars. I like my budget resin blasters just fine, but a nice shiny chrome set is just what the doctor ordered. I'd also love to be able to add servos to make my rangefinder stalk move up and down. But it's aluminum and too heavy. I'll post more as I make significant progress. Thanks for looking.

I should note, and I apologize (it was late last night and was still suffering the effects of using epoxy in an enclosed area) that this electronic set up was inspired by SEEKER. Thanks, Arturo, for your tutorial. Reading my post again today, I think maybe I came off as stealing your thunder. That was not my intention. Anyway, I hope I've done you proud.

The only thing I don't like too much is the gold color for the cone..
I think color copper is better. I used for mine HUMBROL number 12.

I didn't think about that. I'll look at my reference photos again. Maybe I can darken the gold. Anyway, I can't wait to receive your darts. And thank you for the feedback, Fabrizio.

snow, you've got to be patient. bringing up threads that no one has touched in years isn't going to get you gauntlets any faster. there is no one stop shopping for these costumes. and you can't get quality for cheap either. do like the rest of us, save up your money and wait. the item you want/need will come along sooner or later. or if you don't want to do that you can download the wizard of flight gauntlet templates and build your own.
