Rubies one piece Jango helmet

Sorry if this has already been asked, but i was wondering if anyone had a series of pictures of the rubies one piece jango helmet? I'd like to see it in its stock form, with no painting or anything done. Also i was wondering what this inside is like. Basically any info on it would be good, structural stability, paint, material, weight, etc. Again, sorry if this has already been addressed, if so, please point me in the right direction. thanks.

It is really going to depend on what you are wanting. If you want a one time Halloween costume and you don't really care about looks or accuracy, then it would be fine. If you want a decent helmet and are working towards putting together a quality kit then it isn't worth much.

The rubies one piece is small also. If you are a grown adult then it will most likely be very small on you.

So what is your goal?

I guess thats the trouble, im not really sure what my goal is! its not for a halloween costume, but honestly i cant see myself spending 200$ or more oh a helmet, even though it would be really cool. I just dont have that kind of money. I guess i shouldnt even be thinking about making a kit because of that minor problem, haha.

You can get an Asok kit for under 200, and I swear by them. Thats two of them in my avatar pic. I will say this next thing and it will sound like I am joking but I am not. Spend some more time here on TDH and 200 for a nice helmet won't seem like much money anymore.

It kinda comes down to learning what quality is worth, and learning an appreciation for the product. This is not a cheap hobby by any stretch but it is fun an fulfilling. Most any hobby that you get into will cost you some, whether it is golf, cycling, bowling or even playing video games. A lot depends on your knowledge of the hobby as to what "expensive" is. For instance I ride bikes and a 1500 dollar bike is entry level to me, but to most people I am nuts for spending that much. But when I ride I often have one on the cheaper bikes in the group.

The sticker shock can certainly hit in this hobby but I have found that buying a $165 Cold Cast Jango Fett from Asok is actually a bargain. I know that spending $50 on a Rubies is actually quite expensive.

If you watch closely you can catch some deals on older, less accurate helmets that can still look nice, but you will have to stay right on top of things. Think it over and if you decide to get into this hobby ( which is great fun) take your time and save your pennies. It will be worth it in the end to have quality products.

Yes Asok is a member here on the forum. He makes Jango helmets from a screen used ILM mold. He uses cold cast resin which allows you to sand and polish it so that it looks like metal. He is a great guy to work with and is one of the most up front and best service oriented people I have dealt with in this hobby.

Here is one of his sales threads

and here is a WIP thread on one of his helmets.

I do all of my painting and finishing myself so my real cost is just in the helmet kit. Some people do pay others to paint thiers up like the ones in that thread.

and for some reason when you asked if Asok is person I immediately thought ...........Lando is not a system, he a person, a real scoundrel......

hahahahah!

are there tutorials out there on the whole sanding process that makes it look like metal? Im not familiar with this stuff. Im artistically inclined, so id definitely paint it myself! thanks again for the
info

oh and whats ILM?

ILM = Industrial Light and Magic

There are tutorials and such. And when I started I had zero knowledge or ability in this. I just jumped in and started reading and trying things.

Many people think that the rubies helmet is a trash.........and depends of 2 facts:

1) yes , the rubies is a small helmet (the long), buts works for people with a special Height (no more from 1 mts and 65 cm), because is possible that your neck is much visible.

2) Is made from rotocast vinyl and not fiber glass. I think that vinyl is a good material, not so bad as people said.

here is my first helmet in use to my Jango costume, is a rubies and works well, I used a visor from HostMonster, was perfect and only used Epoxi 5 minutes to glue (for that work I received my publish in the photogallery of VISOR WEBSITE).

Recently I buy a ASOK helmet to get a high costume level with my Jango, take a look with my Jango using rubies helmet:

well... gosh it kinda IS a lot of money. I'm sorry, but I'm one of the few people on this site who actually thinks that you can make a nice costume without going over $150 or so. Call me crazy, but it can and will be done.

Build a Fett without going over $150 and put up your WIP thread so you can share the knowledge. I am all for you doing this and it would be a great asset to the community.

I will stand by my statement though. You may have noticed in the previous posts I asked the question "what is your goal" If your goal is a screen accurate Fett, then I do not think there is any way to build it for $150.

You statement is true. 501st accuracy costs a lot. But since so very few of us have access to the materials, and the finances, to make such suits. And in the end, the 501st is pretty overrated. And I don't see a reason why people should worry about EVERY detail anyway. There comes a point when good enough is good enough, at least for me. Who cares is your Boba boots are slighty the wrong color? Who cares if you use a $4 Anchor visor vs a $20 welder's visor?

In today's economy, who has $200 to spend on 1 helmet? I'm sure you're well off, but a lot of us are not. Heck, I felt bad spending $30 for a Rubie's 1 piece Jango. Money is extremely hard to come by. I'm sure you know that yourself. And as good as Assok's helmets are, I hope that you have other advice to offer novice Fett builders. Heck, the only reason someone would have a rubie's Jango is because they couldn't afford the better helmet in the first place I bet. Telling us to go spend 2 month's pay on 1 helmet doesn't really help anyone much.

No I am not well off at all.

And if you are only making $100 a month (based on your statement that $200 is two months pay) I have some advice. You are in no position to have a hobby.....any hobby. You can not live on $20 a week. I don't think that would even cover the cost of having internet access and a computer to log onto TDH.

I appreciate what you are saying and if you actually read what I wrote I never said that someone should be forced to buy a helmet. I am offering advice that will SAVE most people money in the long run. I would think you could appreciate that. I am also not sure why you have singled me out to go after in this thread???? I simply offered advice to someone who asked a question, and he seemed to appreciate the advice. Now a year and a half later you find the thread and get upset about a discussion that occurred 18 months ago.

I am always willing to offer what I have learned in the hobby and help out others here on TDH and several other forums. I am willing to help you out by telling you the lessons and mistakes I have learned over the years. Please just leave the personal insinuations and attacking attitude ("I am sure you are well off") to the side and we can all have benificial conversations that help the site.

I really meant what I said about building up the helmet and posting a WIP to show other how to do it. There have been some incredible builds here before that were done on small budgets. I think those threads are great, and we need all of them we can get.

When I said $200 was two months pay, I was meaning that that's after tax, expenses, and bills. $100 a month for goodies and hobbies, and most of that goes elsewhere besides my Fett WIP. I am NOT targeting you. I am NOT in any way saying you forced anyone to buy a helmet. I was only trying to point out certain facts that nowadays have more effect than they did 18 months ago. And as to your opening statement, if you can afford 2 $200 helmet kits and not feel any after effects, you are well off, at least by my standards.

And it's not just here. Almost everyone of your posts I see is "Buy an assok. Buy an assok." Good as they are, I was only hoping you had more to offer in the way of information than just who makes the best kits. Is wanting more info from such a skilled builder as you so wrong?

Hi MandoMaker, I don't usually get involved with these things but I think you have misinterpreted Mullreel's comments as a personal attack when he is only trying to give a strong endorsement to a product/ prop maker he has a great experience with. I stand behind you in your quest to construct a reasonable facsimile costume for $200 & I think it can be done. For instance, you could construct your armor from thin carboard & PVA glue. One member here, MLC, constructed his masters for fiberglass molds using this method & his work was/ is amazing! A thrift store find for the flightsuit & leather jacket for the vest (Seeker's first vest was made this way) & you are halfway there. The jetpack could be optional as the casual observer wouldn't notice it anyway or you could build it form cardboard again. Please post WIP pics as I find these threads to be the most stimulating. It is great to see the ingenuity some people have, especially on a tight budget.

Yes that is what I am trying to say. Thank you BKBT.

And as far as my endorsement of Asok, I will unashamedly recommend him. In a hobby where a 6-9 month wait is a norm and a year to 18 month wait is not unheard of Bill supplies helmets to guys within 7 days after they pay. When it comes to spending money wisely on a tight budget getting the product in hand is a big deal.

And BKBT is right there are many ways to save a ton of money, and I can throw out some other helpful hints. Such as using PVC pipe scraps that you can get out of a dumpster at a construction site. It can be cut and shaped and is very strong. I have also gone to sign shops and asked for scraps. One store gave me enough to make two sets of chest armor. There are tons of ways to save money. I would say that the hardest place to save money is the helmet because it is the most difficult to build.

Just as an example here is set of chest armor I made for price of paint and begging.

I do think the conversation is headed in a good direction, and I appreciate that. I really like to help out on the forum here and I do not like to argue. If you have seen my posts I tend to avoid confrontation on the internet and I don't know how or why I was a bit confrontational in this thread.

Thanks and I hope I can help out. I can point out some places I have found to beg, scavenge and otherwise source materials to make a good Fett.
