Rubies will probably make the belt yellow, and make absolutely sure that it will not fit any adult over 5'5".
I *loathe* rubies...In fact Im kicking myself for buying those Jango Fett blasters.
I agree. I got the JF helmet and was prefectly pleased with the shape.. but the color was ALL wrong. So maybe it will look great, shape wise, but you might want to think about altering. Who knows, maybe all you'll need is leather dye.
Gino
Anyone gotten their mitts on this item yet?
Max
Keep in mind, the helmet looked fantastic in the photo on EE.Quote:

The actual product looked nothing like what they had on their website!
Is it me or do the holsters look way too short?
I know the barrels on the blasters are shorter than the real ones, but those holsters look kinda small.
i had seen the one at C2 and it looked ok color wise...they didnt let me try it on so i really odnt know about length or size and being proportionate...it looked pretty good at C2 though...i got a better one though....he he he
Hey OPPI!
You can't just say you got a better one and not tell me where you got it and how much it was.
PM me please!
ahh i knew i would ruffle a feather with that one...
I actually really like the blasters, hell of alot better than hasbro's and cheaper than resin.
I just got my blasters the other day. They need some work but aren't that bad. There was a thread on how to modify them. That holster doesn't look bad either. We'll see.
Wll, I just got the rubies holster set. The color is nothing like the entertainment earth pic. There is also no buckle in the back, it is velcro. I guess I should know what to expect for 23 bucks. I am going to try to make it work though because I dont have the cashola for the good one.
Mike
Wow, where did you get it? Can you take some pics? And Im not totally sure, but i think a velcro closure is accurate, thats how the ammo belt is at least. And from what i can judge by the size of the blasters and the ones i have, the proportions seem to be pretty good, as far as size and length goes.
The real gun belt uses a buckle closure, but, you can't see it anyway since it is under the braided leather belt.
This is true. My belts are, in this order: gun belt (buckle on back), braided leather (velcro), ammo pouch (velcro).
Gino
I would realy like some pics of the holster, im prolly gonna depend on this one as well because of price. Could it be painted or at least used for templates?
<img src=http://www.entertainmentearth.com/images//AUTOIMAGES/RU17098LG.jpg>
The size looks alright here, that's an adult wearing it.
OK, heres a little description of the holsters I recieved. They are made from a hard latex? I think. If they had left the color alone, they would be alright. But in the wisdom that is rubys, some a$$hole thought it would be a good idea to brush some beige paint all over it for what I am assuming to be a more realistic look. As far as taking them apart to use for a template, I guess it is possible except the holster itself is one piece and most of the belts are glued. The size is for an adult
For a better pic try http://www.johnsonsmith.com/
Type in jango fett in the search
Hope this helps,
Mike
Is that where you bought yours?
Kylash, yes that is where i picked mine up. I actually bought the costume too! When it came I was so disgusted":puke" that I sent it back and told my wife I was going to make one for my son and I. I searched the web, found this oasis(tdh) and the rest is history.
Mike
Just ordered one, hopefully itll show up before i see one in stores.
Woudl it be possible to take a few pics for others to see who wanna see the real thing before the buy? Thanks
Kylash,
I am trying to figure out a way to post the pics for everyone.
It may take some time.
Mike
I just got the new rubies holster and it is made out of thick latex. What kind of paint can use so that it does not melt it? I tried spray primer on the back but it seems to have melted it and is still sticky and does not want to not want to fully cure.
Thanks,
Mike
Got through it with my own account url, just copied your member number.

Looks pretty **** nice for Rubies, though the folded lines from being in a package are kinda annoying.
Go to your local hobby shop and ask. There is a special kind of paint that you need to paint on latex, or it won't take. It's a latex based paint, it's the same kind you'd use if you were making prosthetics. I just can't remember what it is. But any decent hobby shop can tell you. Usually the smaller ones. The big chain shops usually employ anyone regardless of their knowledge, so they may not be able to help.
Kylash,
Thanks for getting the pics up for me!
Mike
No problem. Pics? I only see one
Oops, I meant pic.
Mike
Mine are on there way as we speak....... We'll see....
Those look actually pretty good, keep the holsters them selves and replace the belts with the real leather ones. That probably sounds easier then it is.... But....
MGR.... What is the silver metal thingee that attachs to the cod made from? Solid plastic, vacuformed pastic, or rubber laytex?
Mine are on the way as well
Lynn,
It is made from solid plastic. It is very similar to the silver I used on my arnor which was a matte silver. By the way, if you guys ordered from thing you never knew existed get ready fo a wait. They ship regular mail and it takes at least 7 days to Michigan.
Mike
Yeah, when i ordered it said 7-10 days, I expect that.
I am in the process of experimenting with different paints Ill let you guys know if I find something that works. If anyone has any suggestions that would be great.
Thanks,
Mike
Cool, I was thinking about that, cause it seems like thats a weird kinda vinyl, so not all paint would dry on that stuff. Let us know! Is it possible to take any closer pics?
Hi all, we(my brother and I) are new here, although we have been lurking around for quite awhile :D which has helped us with our costumes a lot so far(I'm doing ESB boba and my brother is making jango).
Anyways, i was wondering what the lengh/size was on the rubys holster.
Thanks in Advance.
:fettesb :jango
Mgr, Kylash,
If the holsters are really latex you can use acrylic paints with rubber cement diluted with zippo lighter fluid 1:1. I used this on a ****** freddy mask in High school and it looked great afterwards. You just need regular rubber cement and some zippo lighter fluid, make sure its says 100% Naptha on it. Now add 1 part lighter fluid to 1 part rubber cement, stir in some acrylic paint and mix it well. It should be enough to give it color or else it will crack. Now brush it on or an alternative is always an airbrush. That's what I used. It usually takes 5-6 hours to dry so dont wait till halloween to paint the holsters. YMMV, if they are made of some other type of rubber.
Bountyhunter 185,
When you write length and size, what are you refering to?
Mike
sorry about that,
what i was looking for was how long the belt was that goes around the waist.
:fettesb :jango
B.H.185
It is 49" tip to tip.
Mike
Thanks mgr, that helps a lot.
:fettesb :jango
Sounds like a highly flammable concoction to me. I'd refrain from smoking or any open flames while wearing it. >:Quote:

Thanks alot for the info.
Mike
I have to recant(sp?) the latex statement (what the holster is made of). I think it is a thick vinyl. I think?
Mike
I got mine a few days ago.... They are OK by me, I'll replace the belts with real ones and redo the paint.....
I am very interested in seeing and hearing how that turns out!Quote:
Lynn TXP 0369 wrote:I got mine a few days ago.... They are OK by me, I'll replace the belts with real ones and redo the paint.....
As I'm sure everyone else here is.
So, when your done, post some pics and any comments on the process used.
Lynn, What kind of paint are you using?
Thanks,
Mike
I would only use a water based acrylic paint for them. That is what I plan on using on mine. If you use oil based paints on it, as most are, it most likey will not dry.
But then dont get caught in the rain...will all wash away?
Lynn,DM, thanks for the suggestions. Kylash, I was wondering the same thing. I am going to do a test. I will let you know how it turns out.
Thanks again,
Mike
"But then dont get caught in the rain...will all wash away?"
Huh????
Uhmmmm....... I don't think so..... Once it is dry, it is permanate. Although it will wear off after awhile just like regular oil based paint does.
I have been using water based acrylic paints on viynl models for years and never had had a problem with paint washing off......
Lynn
Well I just assumed that because it is WATER based that WATER would take it off... ^_^;
"Well I just assumed that because it is WATER based that WATER would take it off..."
Not once dry my friend.. ;)
I have been building viynl models for 12 years now and even the directions say that you can put larger modless in the shower to wash them off.
When your done painting I would give it a coat of testors dull or semi gloss clear to help protect it.
Lynn,
I took your advice, But instesd of testers I used Painters Touch clearcoat. It seems to be working fine!
Thanks a lot,
Mike
MGR.... I'm glad I was able to help. Now lets see some pics!!! ;P
Here is a pic of MGR's painted Rubies holsters.

Great job! It looks pretty good to me....
MGR
What color's did you use that looks great. What brand of paint also.
Im still looking for those darn things.
Eric
Lynn,
Thanks for posting the pic. I am very happy with the way they look.
Scarbrs,
The only place I have seen the holsters is online and in catalogs. As far as the paint type I'll get back with you on that. It was my wifes and I know she purchased it at Michaels Craft store.
Mike
Sweet, that looks great! Mine holsters should show up today or tomarrow. Mgr: that paint totally dried without being sticky at all? Was is spray or brush on paint?
Did you get the blasters with the holster?
Do you have to buy them seperately?
Do they have them as a set?
Scarbrs,
The paint is called Ceramcoat by Delta, the color is called candy bar.
Kylash,
I used a brush, I think if the holster gets a good scratch the paint might come off, but I have scratched it w/ my fingernail and none has come off yet. I would also assume that with time the paint bond will only get stronger. It was painted less than 24 hours ago.
Darkside,
The holster came w/ 2 guns. I know you can buy the guns separately, but I think the holster only coms with the guns.
Mike
Kylash,
I am waiting on my gauntlets. I still have to make my jet pack and back armor.
I can email pics if someone can post em.
Mike
PM your way
If you want to get them online then go here http://www.johnsonsmith.com/Quote:

Holsters are on there way. thanks for the tip.
Eric
And if anyone is interested... I just finished my mold for my leather holsters, and am expecting to have alot of leather left over after finishing mine... Would anyone be interested in real leather ones?
Just got my holster today. I agree that yes, the majority of the belts need to be replaced, the thigh and waist ones for me. The thigh belts were too small and the waist belt is all warped out of shape. ALso, where the velcro is placed it's made for a 4 year old so I'm prolly gonna rip the velcro out and put in the little studs like thr real one...any idea where to get those brass studs?
The elusive brass studs... Sam Browne button washers.. Here's a link http://www.leatherfactory.com/cart/quikstore.pl
Yup, found em, thanks :)
Post pics when they are done so I can do mine!
Mike
I plan to :) I dont have the money or skill to work with leather so I'm using what I did my ammo pouches with. 79 cent sheets of colored brown foam that I weather up with scissors and make the edges all rough and it looks alot like leather. Not as strong, but I think it'll work for the strap that need replacing. All I'm using from the Rubies holsters are the holster parts themselves and the silver loop holder. I just used the rest as a pattern.
Kylash,
How do you plan to attach the holsters to the leather belts?
Mike
JediCostumer, I'd be interested in a pair of holsters. I PM'ed you!
Mgr, I plan to attach the foam holster straps to a leather belt using Goop. I used Goop to attach the holster parts from Rubies to the foam straps as well. I just need to get thr right color paint for the holster parts and a leather belt.
I might be relacing the belt on my holster,(I picked up 3 ladies belts at kmart for 9 bucks!)so I am wondering if goop will bond leather?
Mike
Dude, Goop will bond anything :D
We'll see. Doing a test tonight.
Mike
Yes, goop will. I used it to bond suede for my slave Leia boots to the shoes I used for them. Worked great!!!
Hello!
I would like to make my own hosters and I saw that you have already done this. I have never worked with leather like this. How exactly do you make the holsters and have them keep their shape? I understand if you would rather not share you secret.
That is a great question Mirax. Who are you asking? I too am curious about how to make the holster portion. But I will be glueing with goop! The stuff has only been setting for 6 hours and it is not coming apart.
Thanks for the suggestion kylash.
Mike
No prob :) Anyone know of a certain kind of scissors that will cut leather? I cant get it to work ^_^; Thr foam sheets im using are good, but I might replace them with some real leather later if I can cut it.
Kylash,
When I made my ammo pouches I used some leather mag holders from an army surplus store. They were too big so I had to cut them down. I used a utility knife. It worked pretty well. You might try that.
Mike
Leather sheers for cutting leather... The Leather Factory has some nice all metal ones that go thru 8 oz. like warm butter. As for instructions on making the holsters... That may be more difficult. Some day when everything cools down around here I may try to put up a tutorial. It's fairly simple for an experienced leatherworker, but if you've never done it, it can be quite an undertaking. I'll get some pics up as soon as I finish mine; for those that are interested in purchasing a set.
WARNING:
I just took my holsters apart and was surprised at the ease of doing it. The glue they used blows. If you are leaving them as is, you may want to consider taking them apart and reglueing them with GOOP(thanks for the tip about Goop Kylash, It works excellent for holding the leather!)
Mike
Yeah I noticed that when I took mine apart for patterns, it was ****.
