Rub-N-Buff

Well, i got my RNB today. I tried it on my test piece and in my opinoin this stuff blows. It made no diffrence to my armor whatsoever. I followed the directions on the package and all the stuff did was make my hand silver. I am using it on my aluminum spray painted sintra armor. What am I doing wrong? And how do you get it to look weathered with the black "grease?" marks?

Edit: after working with it all afternoon, i got it to work and it looks great but i still can't figure out how to get it to look like it is weathered.

Thanks

The rub n buff doesn't add the black weathering. The rub n buff is just used to make your armor look like real metal. To achieve the weathered look, you want a black acrylic paint. Water down the paint a little, and then with your finger or something else smear the black paint on where you think there needs to be weathering (mainly around the edges of the armor). If it doesn't look right to you then wipe it off quickly with a tissue. do this all over the armor until your satisfied.
I'm sure someone else will chime in and fill you in on how they did it also.
Hope this Helps :)

Here's where I finally ordered my R&B from.

They have reasonable prices, no minimum order, and the shipping cost isn't crazy expensive. YAY!!!!

I tried these guys, but they don't ship to Canada. Apparently wax is a 'hazardous substance'. I'm not impressed...

Anybody know of any Canadian shops selling this stuff? I found this one:

Cripes. My wife just clued me in that there's a Michael's down the road from our place. I'd never heard of it before. Go figure ;)

Thanks for the help, guys.

*bump*

Well, I'm going to rub soon, but I haven't seen any posts about what you all used to buff. I'll likely rub with my palm, like most have suggested, would a leather glove work as well to rub? What about buffing? What is the best buffing method/material you all have used? Please help!

Most people buff with their hand. Obi-Sean Kenobi used an old cotton t-shirt with great success. However, I tried that method and it didn't work too well for me. So I suggest the palm.

i have started to use the rub and buff and i think it works really well. just make sure that you have primed the area and sanded it to a nice very very smooth surface. this helps in the buffing process. it looks great afterwards.

hey mirax didnt u say that u clear coated yours after it was done? how did it turn out?

it's all good kev. this is what this board is all about. sharing info. you have to rub the sucker really hard. member that the r&b is a wax. so the more heat and more it will stick to your armor.

great tips. all of you. i think mirax has a great idea in the other thread on sharing tips. i cant wait to show everyone the new jango when it is done. helmet should be done by the end of next week.

I don't know if the websites have it, but try michael's or hobby lobby. You might try a search for "silver leaf" as it's also called.
