Rub & Buff vs Cold Cast

Mandalorian Guard

Active Hunter
Hi all,
Not sure there been a topic about this before.

I was wondering, can Rub & Buff on sintra or fiberglass look the same as Cold Cast fiberglass. I take it there no such thing as Cold Cast on Sintra?

What the advantages to sintra over fiberglass?

I have CC armour for my Jango and wonder if Rub & Buff Silver leaf colour would look the same if I were to get either sintra or fiberglass armour.

Assuming CC has no problem with weather (rain), but does Rub & Buff have problem with weather?

Does Rub & Buff and CC go odd in colour in time?

Thanks

You're right, there's really no such thing as Cold Cast on Sintra because CC is when aluminum powder is mixed into resin and cast in a mold. The advantage of sintra is that its easy to work with, light weight, and is great for homemade armor. Fiberglass is sturdier and is meant for casting complex shapes or reinforcement. It holds its shape very well. On the other hand, if you leave your sintra armor in a hot car, it may deform.

Done right, Rub n Buff can look very close to Cold Cast. I have CC FP Gauntlets and my RnB'd armor matches the CC Gauntlets very well. RnB and CC don't "go odd" in color in time, but they may lose a little bit of their shine. The CC can be polished with aluminum polish. The RnB can be buffed again and may eventually need to be re-applied.

I don't think either CC or RnB have a problem with rain, although I suppose some of the RnB could wear off if consistently subjected to rain or if the RnB is wiped hard when wet.

Fox pretty much summed everythig up.

Either one has advantages. Sintra is alot lighter then CC fiberglass. Fiberglass is more rigid and would take alot more pounding around.

I like Fox have mix alot of my costume parts and you couldn't tell the difference from CC to R&B.

I heard from one of the guys that built the actual suit and said that he buffed the ILM CC Jango Fett costume with R&B sometimes to touch it up.

R&B has hardly any problem with weathering. Remember, it's a melted down wax material.

Here's a picture of my chest armor made of Sintra with a collar made of CC fiberglass. As you could see, there's hardly a difference.

That great too know. Anyone got pics of comparison.

Why is CC genuinly expensive? Know it the aluminium powder that make the cost.

What sintra and fiberglass like in cold climates, I want to store my stuff in box in the loft (attic). Would it deform the shape then on the materials mentioned?

All the work!!! Make a nice piece in cold cast is not so easy...you must have a almost perfect cast and this mean put more attention (MORE TIME!!!) when you make it!
It's not easy find the right materials ,specially the resin, and find the right formula.

this is my costume and a lot of pieces are in CC (others R&B).
I don't tell wich are in cc...:D

Whats what on your armour Dark-Side? Rub & Buff, Cold Cast and Sintra and Fiberglass etc?

Collar, shoulders, diamond, 2 chest pieces and knees are in CC. The rest is FG with R&B. The ab plate is in vacumforming plastic with R&B.

BTW,for me, CC is the definitive choise!8) I'm really happy with my CC formula and my plane is replace all my R&B pieces with new once sculped and made in CC by me!(y)
